Inexpensive Method to Assess Mangroves Forest through the Use of Open Source Software and Data Available Freely in Public Domain

Mapping and assessment of mangrove environment are crucial since the mangrove has an important role in the process of human-environment interaction. In Indonesia alone, 25% of South East Asia's mangroves available are under threat. Recognizing the availability and the ability of new sensor of Landsat data, this study investigates the use of Landsat ETM + 7 and Landsat 8, acquired in 2002 and 2013 respectively, for assessing the extent of mangroves along the South Sulawesi’s coastline. For each year, a supervised classification of the mangrove was performed using open source GRASS GIS software. The resulting maps were then compared to quantify the change. Field work activities were conducted and confirmed with the changes that occurred in the study area.? Considering the accuracy assessment, our study shows that the RGB composite color-supervised classification is better than band ratio-supervised classification methods. By linking the open source software with the Landsat data and Google Earth satellite imagery that is available in public domain, mangroves forest conversion and changes can be observed remotely. Ground truth surveys confirmed that, decreases of mangroves forest is due to the expansion of fishpond activity. This technique could potentially allow rapid, inexpensive remote monitoring of cascading, indirect effects of human activities to mangroves forest.

The aim of this investigation is to estimate metal concentration distribution, Pb, Cd, Zn, and Cr, in Callispongia sp, sediment, and water column in Hative waters of Ambon bay. After sampling, analytical processes were conducted by using a standard method and measured by ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy). The results showed that Zn concentration was highest, 0.231 mg/kg dry weight (ppm) while in sediment and water the numbers were 1.180 and 0.790 ppm respectively. In the meantime, functional group studies through Fourier Transformed Infra Red spectroscopy revealed that OH-group (3421 cm-1), Conjugated Double Bond (1635 cm-1) and Ether Groups (1049 cm-1) of callispongia sp were found. Also, the appearance of wave-number 2926 cm-1 clearly indicates the existence of –CH sp3 group. Combining both results may guide us to establish a relation between metal concentration and organic substance transformation made during interaction inside species. Thus, trace metal investigation can be a choice in doing rapid assessment and biomonitor for the quality of coastal marine life. Furthermore, by more extensive studies, this connection could be developed and proposed as a low cost method for EIA of metal pollution in coastal zone, particularly in coral reef system.

A Novel Method for Producing Hydrogen from a Hydrocarbon Liquid Using Microwave In-liquid Plasma

The in-liquid plasma method is a technology in which plasma of several thousand degrees Kelvin is generated within bubbles in a liquid. The purpose of this study is to enhance the hydrogen production rate from waste oils by using in-liquid plasma. Two types of microwave in-liquid plasma apparatus are adopted for hydrogen production. One is a conventional MW （microwave） oven, the other is a microwave generator with a waveguide to apply the in-liquid plasma steam reforming method in n-dodecane. The produced gas is 58%-90% hydrogen in these methods. The hydrogen production rate is improved by stabilization of the bubble growth. The gas production rate by plasma feeding steam in n-dodecane is 1.4 times higher than that without feeding steam.

Chitin is the second most abundant polysaccharide,produced mainly as an industrial waste stream during crustacean *** can be derived into chitosan through the deacetylation *** of shrimp waste into chitosan via the deacetylation process could be considered a practical approach for shell waste *** this study,chitosan’s physicochemical characteristics extracted from two types of Pacific white leg shrimp,***’s shell(i.e.,rough and smooth),were compared with commercial *** yield,moisture,ash,solubility,water and fat binding capacity were *** degree of deacetylation(DDA)was calculated using FTIR,and their chemical Structure was confirmed using XRD and *** extracted chitosan showed no significant difference in yield,moisture,ash,solubility and water binding capacity but showed a significant difference with commercial ***,the fat binding capacity of commercial chitosan showed the lowest percentage(408.34±0.83%)as compared to extracted chitosan(smooth shell 549.59±12.48%;rough shell 500.55±12.10%).The DDA indicated that extracted chitosan from the smooth and rough shell was considered good chitosan as compared to commercial chitosan with 84.08±1.27%,80.78±0.79%and 74.99±1.48%,***,the presence of hydroxyl and amino groups from FTIR and a good crystallinity index was recorded using XRD of extracted *** on observed characteristics,shrimp shell waste from *** can achieve chitosan standard quality as a biopolymer and highly potential to be applied in various industrial applications.

AIM： To identify the distribution of hepatitis B virus （HBV） subgenotype and basal core promoter （BCP） mutations among patients with HBV-associated liver disease in Indonesia.METHODS： Patients with chronic hepatitis （CH, n =61）, liver cirrhosis （LC, n = 62）, and hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC, n = 48） were included in this study. HBV subgenotype was identified based on S or preS gene sequence, and mutations in the HBx gene including the overlapping BCP region were examined by direct sequencing.RESULTS： HBV genotype B （subgenotypes B2, B3, B4, 85 and B7） the major genotype in the samples, accounted for 75.4%, 71.0% and 75.0% of CH, LC and HCC patients, respectively, while the genotype C （subgenotypes C1, C2 and C3） was detected in 24.6%, 29.0%, and 25.0% of CH, LC, and HCC patients, respectively. Subgenotypes B3 （84.9%） and C1 （82.2%） were the main subgenotype in HBV genotype B and C, respectively. Serotype adw2 （84.9%） and adrq＋（89.4%） were the most prevalent in HBV genotype B and C, respectively. Double mutation （A1762T/G1764A） in the BCP was significantly higher in LC （59.7%） and HCC （54.2%） than in CH （19.7%）, suggesting that this mutation was associated with severity of liver disease. The T1753V was also higher in LC （46.8%）, but lower in HCC （22.9%） and CH （18.0%）, suggesting that this mutation may be an indicator of cirrhosis.CONCLUSION： HBV genotype B/B3 and C/C1 are the major genotypes in Indonesia. Mutations in BCP, such as A1762T/G1764A and T1753V, might have an association with manifestations of liver disease.

Nursing students’knowledge and attitude toward diabetic ulcer care and their contributing factors in Indonesia

Objective:The prevalence of diabetic foot ulcer in Indonesia is far greater than the global *** students are expected to have good knowledge and positive attitudes regarding diabetic ulcer care in order to deliver high-quality wound care during clinical *** study aimed to assess nursing students’knowledge and attitudes toward diabetic ulcer care and to investigate the factors related to ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted on 396 academic and clinical phases in three nursing schools in Indonesia from September 2021 to February *** completed a survey including a questionnaire about knowledge and attitudes regarding diabetic ulcer *** data were analyzed using a Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression ***:The results show that 43.2%(171/396)of nursing students had inadequate knowledge of diabetic ulcer ***,88.9%(352/396)had a favorable attitude toward the *** students lacked knowledge about the characteristics of diabetic ulcers,diabetic neuropathy,wound infection,and adjunctive therapy for diabetic ulcers,and many of them believe that diabetic ulcer care is too timeconsuming to carry *** in the clinical phase of their studies had significantly better knowledge than those in the academic phase(aOR=9.99,95%CI 4.96e20.08,P<0.001).Male nursing students were significantly less likely to have positive attitude toward the topic than female students(aOR=0.42,95%CI 0.19e0.96,P=0.048),and students accustomed to sharing with peers as a source of knowledge had better attitudes than those who were not(aOR=2.76,95%CI 1.40e5.41,P=0.003).Conclusion:Findings show that almost half of the nursing students have insufficient knowledge of diabetic ulcer *** developers and educators need to improve the curriculum regarding diabetic wound care and provide strategic programs to improve students’knowledge and attitudes based on the factors discovered in this study.

Measurement, data collection, and analyzing statistically the spectral response of different bottom types are all important steps in mapping shallow water bottom types with remote sensing. Five small islands in the Spermonde archipelago, South Sulawesi, in Indonesia, were selected to measure the reflectance spectral of benthic communities. The objective of this study was to determine optical properties of the live corals, dead corals covered with algae, coral rubber covered with algae, broken shell, sand, seagrass and macro algae. Pearson correlation coefficient and cluster analysis were used to determine spectral similarity in and among coral species based on spectral responses at observed wavelengths and to examine the similarities between the categories. Several benthic communities appear to be highly correlated with one another when the entire spectrum is considered, which may lead to classification errors. Porites meyeri, dead corals and coral rubber （〉 3 months ago） share a high degree of similarity in reflectance. The other coastal benthic communities are readily discriminated.

This work aimed to tune the comprehensive properties of Fe-P-C-based amorphous system through investigating the role of microalloying process on the crystallization behavior,glass forming ability(GFA),soft magnetic features,and mechanical *** minor addition of elements into the system,it was found that the simultaneous microalloying of Ni and Co leads to the highest GFA,which was due to the optimization of compositional heterogeneity and creation of near-eutectic ***,the FeCoNiCuPC amorphous alloy exhibited the best anelastic/viscoplastic behavior under the nanoindentation test,which was owing to the intensified structural fluctuations in the ***,the improved plasticity by the extra Cu addition comes at the expense of magnetic properties,so that the saturation magnetization of this alloying system is significantly decreased compared to the FeCoPC amorphous alloy with the highest soft magnetic *** total,the results indicated that a combination of added elemental constitutes,i.e.,Fe69Co5Ni5Cu1P13C7 composition,provides an optimized state for the comprehensive properties in the alloying system.

Implication of the LINGO2 gene in the predisposition to movement disorders

Previous reports on the pathogenesis of age-related movement disorders,such as Parkinson’s disease(PD)and essential tremor(ET),have demonstrated the potential implications of LINGO1(leucine-rich repeat and immunoglobulin domain-containing protein)*** LINGO2 has a high degree of homology with LINGO1,but it is less characterized and the role of LINGO2 in the development of PD/ET remains ***,this metaanalysis was conducted to evaluate the role of LINGO2 in PD/ET pathogenesis.A total of 4 studies,which complied with the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium,were included in the *** of the pooled odds ratio and confidence interval of the studies were performed for five genetic models,namely:allelic,dominant,recessive,homozygous,and *** significant association was observed between the LINGO2 polymorphism and PD/ET,although subgroup analysis through conventional metaanalysis indicated that the recessive models of rs7033345 and rs10812774 are significantly associated with predisposition to ET in the Asian ***,trial sequential analyses for both polymorphisms were unlikely to reveal any robust ***,studies with larger samples on this association are needed in the future to corroborate our results.
