Oxygen-deficient MoO_(x)/Ni_(3)S_(2) heterostructure grown on nickel foam as efficient and durable self-supported electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction

High-performance and ultra-durable electrocatalysts are vital for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)during water ***,by one-pot solvothermal method,MoO_(x)/Ni_(3)S_(2) spheres comprising Ni_(3)S_(2) nanoparticles inside and oxygen-deficient amorphous MoO_(x) outside in situ grow on Ni foam(NF),to assembly the heterostructure composites of MoO_(x)/Ni_(3)S_(2)/*** adjusting volume ratio of the solvents of ethanol to water,the optimized MoO_(x)/Ni_(3)S_(2)/NF-11 exhibits the best HER performance,requiring an extremely low overpotential of 76 mV to achieve the current density of 10 mA∙cm‒2(η_(10)=76 mV)and an ultra-small Tafel slope of 46 mV∙dec^(-1) in 0.5 mol∙L^(-1) H_(2)SO_(4).More importantly,the catalyst shows prominent high catalytic stability for HER(>100 h).The acid-resistant MoO_(x) wraps the inside Ni_(3)S_(2)/NF to ensure the high stability of the catalyst under acidic *** functional theory calculations confirm that the existing oxygen vacancy and MoO_(x)/Ni_(3)S_(2) heterostructure are both beneficial to the reduced Gibbs free energy of hydrogen adsorption(|∆G_(H*)|)over Mo sites,which act as main active *** heterostructure effectively decreases the formation energy of O vacancy,leading to surface reconstruction of the catalyst,further improving HER *** MoO_(x)/Ni_(3)S_(2)/NF is promising to serve as a highly effective and durable electrocatalyst toward HER.

99mTc-galactosyl human serum albumin（GSA） scintigraphy is useful to evaluate hepatic function and hepatic functional reserve. A reliable SPECT and CT integrated system is now commercially available. Using this system, we can obtain 99mTc-GSA SPECT/CT fused imaging with a small registration error. Therefore, the 99mTc-GSA scintigraphy techniques prove more useful in clinical practice than have been previously reported. In the latest Annals of Surgical Oncology on Oct 2014, the uptake index（UI） values calculated from 99mTc-GSA scintigraphy are reported to be useful for predicting the functional reserve of the future remnant liver. In this paper, we describe the usefulness of 99mTc-GSA scintigraphy as well as some cautions that are necessary as regards using the system.

Quick photofabrication of functional nanospheres from de novo designed peptides for NIR fluorescence and MR imaging

Combining the noncovalent and covalent interactions,a series of peptide amphiphiles were designed de novo and synthesized to architect functional assemblies by means of *** strand of peptide sequence was structurally capped with photoactive tyrosine-tyrosine(YY)motifs at both termini,and the spacing was filled by alternating of hydrophilic D(L-aspartate)and hydrophobic X(ε-aminocaproic acid)*** visible-light irradiation,these de novo designed peptides underwent rapid photocrosslinking within merely 10 ***,the modulation of alternating D-X pairs in occupying spacer would adjust molecular amphiphilicity,regulate charge distribution,and control particle size and loading capacity of peptide nanospheres(PNS)in aqueous *** entirely peptide-based matrix,this PNS system could host cationic indicators of fluorescent rhodamine and magnetic GdIII for exemplar near infrared(NIR)fluorescence and magnetic resonance(MR)imaging,which paves a pathway to biomaterial and biomedical applications using de novo designed peptides.

Rare histological subtype of invasive micropapillary carcinoma in the ampulla of Vater: A case report

BACKGROUND Carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater is an uncommon ampullo-pancreatobiliary neoplasm,and the most common histological type is adenocarcinoma with a tubular growth *** micropapillary carcinoma(IMPC)is an aggressive variant of adenocarcinoma in several organs that is associated with lymph node metastasis and poor *** was first described as a histological subtype of breast cancer;however,IMPC of the ampulla of Vater is extremely rare,with only three articles reported in the English *** SUMMARY We have reported a case of IMPC of the ampulla of Vater in an 80-year-old ***,the surface area of the carcinoma was composed of tubulopapillary structures mimicking intra-ampullary papillary-tubular neoplasm,and the deep invasive front area exhibited a pattern of *** carcinoma showed lymphatic invasion and extensive lymph node *** immunohistochemical study revealed mixed intestinal and gastric/pancreatobiliary *** This rare subtype tumor in the ampulla of Vater showed a histologically mixed phenotype and exhibited aggressive behavior.

Diabetic neuropathy(DN)is the most common form of neuropathy worldwide,with its prevalence rising alongside diabetes,and being characterized by sensory,motor or autonomic *** is considered to be an incurable complication of diabetes,the management of which mainly consists of improving glycemic control,managing pain relief and ensuring continuous foot *** gabapentin,duloxetine and tricyclic antidepressants are commonly used to reduce patient symptoms,they do not affect the pathophysiology and progression of ***,these drugs can have various side effects including insomnia,decreased appetite,arrhythmia,heart failure,and suicidal *** to traditional Persian medicine,DN is recognized as a type of“Khadar”or“Esterkha”(a sensory or motor disorder,respectively)that occurs due to the accumulation of sugars in the peripheral *** spinosa L.,commonly known as the caper plant,has been recommended in authentic sources of traditional Persian medicine to treat such *** this study,we reviewed the pharmacological properties of *** using the Web of Science,PubMed,Scopus and Google Scholar databases,and found that Capparis spinosa *** affect several pathways involved in DN pathogenesis,including aldose reductase activity,the secretion of inflammatory mediators(IL-17,TNF-α,IL-1β,IL-6),oxidative stress,hyperlipidemia,hyperglycemia and advanced glycation end product *** on these findings,we hypothesize that Capparis spinosa L.,may prevent the progression and reduce the symptoms of diabetic neuropathy,and so can be considered as a complementary treatment in this *** hypothesis should be evaluated in well-designed in vitro and in vivo studies,and through clinical trials.

Antimicrobial resistance, genotypic characterization and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis typing of extended spectrum β-lactamases-producing clinical Escherichia coli strains in Macao, China

Background The rise of the production of CTX-M class extended spectrum β-lactamases （ESBLs） has been well documented in traveling countries but no data are found for Macao, an international travel city. The objectives of this study were to identify the antimicrobial resistance pattern, and determine the prevalence, genotype and clonal relationship of ESBLs in 209 clinical Escherichia coli strains from Macao, China. Methods Antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed to determine the resistance patterns of the isolates using the disk diffusion method with 17 antimicrobial agents. Phenotypic detection was screened and confirmed according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. Genotypic characterization was detected by isoelectric focusing analysis, polymerase chain reaction and sequencing. The clonal relationship between the different ESBL isolates was studied by pulsed-field gel electrophoresis （PFGE）. Results Imipenem and meropenem exhibited 100% susceptible among 209 strains. Overall, 82.3%, 67.3%, 52.9%, 51.2% and 51.0% of the isolates displayed resistance to ampicillin, tetracylcline, ciprofloxacin, sulfamethoxazole trimethoprin and gentamycin. The prevalence rate of ESBLs was 30.1%. Antibiotic resistances were found to be significantly higher among the ESBL producing group compared to non-ESBL producing group. We detected CTX-M-14 to be the major genotypic characterization of ESBLs （76.2%）. Two strains showed indistinguishable patterns by PFGE. Conclusions The prevalence of antimicrobial resistance is alarming high in Macao. Antimicrobial resistance is significantly higher among the ESBL producing group. This study documented CTX-M-14 as the predominant ESBL type. Although indistinguishable pattern was found between two strains, it was too small to decide whether any of the investigated strains was epidemic. Pulmonary hypertension(PH) is a life-threatening disease characterized by pulmonary vascular remodeling, in which hyperproliferation of pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells(PASMCs)plays an important role. The cysteine 674(C674) in the sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca^(2+)ATPase 2(SERCA2) is the critical redox regulatory cysteine to regulate SERCA2 activity. Heterozygous SERCA2 C674 S knock-in mice(SKI), where one copy of C674 was substituted by serine to represent partial C674 oxidative inactivation, developed significant pulmonary vascular remodeling resembling human PH, and their right ventricular systolic pressure modestly increased with age. In PASMCs, substitution of C674 activated inositol requiring enzyme 1 alpha(IRE1 a) and spliced X-box binding protein 1(XBP1 s) pathway, accelerated cell cycle and cell proliferation, which reversed by IRE1 a/XBP1 s pathway inhibitor 4μ8 C. In addition, suppressing the IRE1 a/XBP1 s pathway prevented pulmonary vascular remodeling caused by substitution of C674. Similar to SERCA2 a, SERCA2 b is also important to restrict the proliferation of PASMCs. Our study articulates the causal effect of C674 oxidative inactivation on the development of pulmonary vascular remodeling and PH, emphasizing the importance of C674 in restricting PASMC proliferation to maintain pulmonary vascular homeostasis. Moreover, the IRE1 a/XBP1 s pathway and SERCA2 might be potential targets for PH therapy.

Rheological Behavior of Epoxy Resin Concentrated Dispersions

For the concentrated dispersions of epoxy resin prepared by phase inversion emulsification technique, the effects of solid content and temperature on the rheological behavior are studied. It is found that there exists reversible structural transition in concentrated dispersions subjected to shearing. The viscosity oscillation correlated with high viscoelasticity at lower stress is remarkable in highly concentrated dispersions. There exists storage modules overshot at higher stress during the dynamic stress time ramp test. This could provide some information on dynamics of structure changes during shear action. Besides, the effects of solid content and temperature on the relationship between tangent delta and frequency are essentially different.

Effects of leukotriene receptor antagonist on chronic obstractive pulmonary disease induced pulmonary hypertension

Objectives To assess the hemodynamic, oxygen-dynamic and ventilative effects of Zafirlukast in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) induced chronic cor pulmonale at acute exacerbation stage and the mechanisms of Zafirlukast *** Eleven cases of chronic cor pulmonale at acute exacerbation were examinted using Swan-Ganz catheter and peripheral intra-artery catheter. The hemodynamic, oxygen-dynamic parameters and respiratory rate, plasma endothelium-1 (ET-1) level, and urea leukotriene E4 (LTE4) level were measured before and at the 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th hour after taking 40 mg Zafirlukast orally. Artarial and mixed venous blood gas analyses were done *** The average pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP) and pulmonary vascular resistance index (PVRI) were lowered at the 3rd hour after taking Zafirlukast by 23% and 36.5%, respectively. They returned to the baseline around 12th hour. Respiratory rate decreased significantly within the 3rd-7th hour after taking Zafirlukast. LTE4 and ET-1 levels lowered at the 3rd hour and showed a positive correlation with change of mPAP. Conclusions Zafirlukast can reduce mPAP, pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) and does not affect the ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) and oxygenation in cases of chronic cor pulmonale at acute exacerbation stage. Zafirlukast may play a role as an alternative to decrease PAP in COPD patients.

Recent studies have shown the in vitro neuro-protective functions of atmospheric pressure plasma(APP)against multiple pathological injuries during ischaemic stroke(IS).However,whether APP treatment exerts a therapeutic effect on a rat IS model remains ***,on the basis of needle-to-ring dielectric barrier discharge,an atmospheric pressure plasma jet(APPJ)was designed,with the Helium as the working gas which was driven by a sinusoidal ***,the treatment conditions were optimised for IS rat model treatment and the characteristics of this APPJ were further ***,the rat IS model was established through 90 min middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO),and plasma was intermittently inhaled by rats via the nasal cavity for a 2 min period at 60 min of MCAO *** therapeutic effects of this plasma jet device were then evaluated using biomedical *** to our results,intermittent APP inhalation in the MCAO rats increased the serum NO content,improved the neurological function,enhanced regional cerebral blood flow,lowered brain infarction,and reduced the cell apoptosis in brain tissues of MCAO ***,our data provides a novel potential strategy for IS treatment by using atmospheric-pressure plasma inhalation.
