Background: Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a frequent reason for consultation and lead to a significant and sometimes inappropriate prescription of antibiotics. The latter favors antibiotic resistance and an increase in mortality as well as the cost of treatment. The present study aims to contribute to the fight against antibiotic resistance of enterobacteria. Methods: This is a prospective study from January to December, 2021 in the Microbiology laboratory of the general Reference Hospital (GRH) of Niamey including 3369 urine samples. The antibiotic resistance of enterobacteria was determined using the Viteck-2 method. Results: At least 280 strains of Enterobacteriaceae were isolated from the patient’s urine. Among these strains, Escherichia coli was the most predominant (74.64%), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (16.07%) and Enterobacter cloacae (7.14%) and other enterobacteria 2.15%. These Enterobacteriaceae are more common in community patients than in hospitalized patients. The average age of patients is 52 years and the age group most affected by these enterobacteria is 46 - 60 years (23.33%). The female sex is the most affected sex with (51.07%) against (48.97%) for the male sex with 1.04 as sex ratio. The hospitalization departments most affected by these enterobacteria are Nephrology (29.23%) and Endocrinology (21.54%). Up to 75% of the Enterobacteriaceae isolates show high resistance to ampicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ticarcillin, piperacillin-tazobactam, cefoxitin, cefixime, ceftazidime, ceftriaxone, cotrimoxazole, nalidixic acid and ofloxacin. Conclusion: The high rate of antibiotic resistance among enterobacteria in urine is of concern. Only a few Enterobacteriaceae show low resistance to ertapenem, imipenem, amikacin, gentamicin, fosfomycin and nitrofurantoin. Therefore, these antibiotics are recommended as first line treatment for urinary tract infections.

Migration regularities of impurity aluminum and copper in purification of metal lanthanum by solid-state electrotransport

In view of the previous studies on the migrations of impurity aluminum(Al)and copper(Cu)in purification of rare earth metal by solid-state electrotransport(SSE),there are still some questions about that which direction they migrate to and whether there are significant migrations or *** metal lanthanum(La)was used as research object,and the effects of migration temperature and time on the distributions and migration regularities of impurity Al and Cu were investigated in the present study by increasing concentration of impurity Al and Cu in raw metal *** impurity migration direction and removal difficulty were intuitively judged by the residual rate distribution curve of *** is indicated that metal impurity Al and Cu in metal La at 800℃ with direct current are found to significantly migrate to anode and their residual rates near cathode decrease with the increase in migration temperature and prolongation of migration *** relatively large vapor pressure of Al and Cu makes their residual rate distribution curves being low in middle and high in *** metal La was continuously purified for 100 h at 800℃ by SSE,the residual rates of impurity Al and Cu at 20 mm from cathode are 68.43%and 57.43%,respectively,showing that Cu is much easier to be removed than Al.

Preparation of Heavily Te-doped GaSb Single Crystal

Based on comparison of the single crystal growth from several Czochralski techniques,it showed that the most advantageous method for GaSb growth seems to be LEC pulling *** Te doped GaSb single crystals can be prepared on small scale with good reproducibility by using special filtering *** the Te concentrations calculated from the Hall measurement,the distribution coefficient of tellurium in GaSb was estimated to be about 0.38 under our growth *** etch pit density (EPD) examination in GaSb showed that the profile of EPD is of W shape in growth plane and the value of average EPD is about 1.0×10 -3 cm -2 along growth direction.

Hill slope instability of Nainital City,Kumaun Lesser Himalaya,Uttarakhand,India

Nainital City of Kumaun Lesser Himalaya is prone to mass wasting processes during monsoon season,which mischievously triggers the hill slope instability in this region. Slate, dolomitic limestone, silty sandstone and rhythmite of the Krol Formation are the main rock types. The present study focuses on the investigation of slope stability in the region in terms of potential seismicity and landslide. Geological and geotechnical mapping indicates that the major portion of the area is characterized by slope wash materials and buildings. The combination of 3-4 joint sets with one random joint is the main structure at *** major geological structures of this area are Nainital lake fault passing from the center of the lake, Main Boundary Thrust at SW, and Khuriya Fault passing from the SE direction of Nainital City. This work finds that different types of discontinuities(e.g. joints and faults), overburden due to unplanned civil structures,and neotectonic activity in the vicinity of this ara affect the stability of the city. The slate forms the base of the city, dipping slightly towards the lake side along the NW direction, thus accelerating the instability of this area. Rock mass rating(RMR), slope mass rating, factor of safety(FOS) and graphical analysis of the discontinuity for slope kinematics indicate that the study area is a landslide-prone zone. This study can facilitate reducing the risk of human life, and contribute to the ongoing construction works in the area.

Pore size effects of nanoporous carbons with ultra-high surface area on high-pressure hydrogen storage

In this work, the morphologies and pore structures of a series of corncob-derived activated carbons and zeolite templated carbon with ultrahigh surface area were carefully investigated by SEM, HRTEM and N2-sorption characterization technologies. The high-pressure hydrogen uptake performance was analyzed using standard Pressure-Composition-Temperature apparatus in order to study the pore size effects on hydrogen uptake. These as-obtained porous carbons showed different characteristics of pore size distribution as well as specific surface area. The results indicate that the most effective pores for adsorbing hydrogen depended on the storage pressure. These ultramicropores （0.65-0.85 nm） could be the most effective pores on excess H2 uptake at 1 bar, however, micropores （0.85-2 nm） would play a more important role in excess H2 uptake at higher pressure at 77 K. At room temperature, pore size effects on H2 uptake capacity were very weak. Both specific surface area and total pore volume play more important roles than pore size for H2 uptake at room temperature, which was clearly different from that at 77 K. For applications in future, the corncob-derived activated carbons can be more available than zeolite templated carbons at 77 K. Element doping enhanced hydrogen uptake could be main research direction for improving H2 uptake capacity at room temperature.

In this paper,we design a hydrostatic electroactive soft actuator(HESA)inspired by octopus transverse *** introduce the advantage of laser processing technology in HESA fabrication compared with existing similar actuators and discuss the effect of laser processing on the outer membrane of the *** addition,a mathematical model is established for the single channel of the actuator,and the geometric parameters of the actuator are optimized by mathematical model simulation and *** demonstrate the motion effect of the *** experiments show that the single piece of the actuator can achieve 32.2%strain in the axial direction and 7.8%strain in the radius ***,we stack three actuators together and describe their motion characteristics at different *** stacked actuators can realize axial elongation,radial shrinkage,and bend,which covers all the motion modes of the octopus biological transverse *** study may lay a foundation for implementing the biomimetic soft actuator mimicking the octopus’s transverse musculature,which is one less discussed but crucial muscular composition in the octopus-inspired arm research.

Background:Gastrointestinal parasites infections are widespread in Africa and their prevalence infections vary from country to *** study aimed at assessing the prevalence of opportunistic intestinal parasites infection and other gastrointestinal parasites infection among patients attending the laboratory of Parasitology and Mycology of the University Hospital Souro Sanou of ***:A hospital cross-sectional based study was conducted from April to August,*** were persons whom parasitological examination of stools has been prescribed by a *** stools examination methods included direct wet saline examination,lugol’s iodine staining technique,formol-ether concentration and modified Ziehl-Neelsen *** recorded age and sex information for each ***:The overall prevalence of intestinal parasite infections was 65.3%(190/291).Majority of the parasitic infections was waterborne(64.3%)consisting of high prevalence of Cryptosporidium sp.(26.5%)and Entamoeba histolytica/dispar(23.4%).The prevalence of opportunistic parasites was 28.9%and Cryptosporidium *** the most prevalent species followed by Blastocystis sp.(1.0%),Cyclospora sp.(0.7%)and Isospora belli(0.7%).The prevalence of intestinal helminthes was 1.7%.Conclusions:The prevalence of intestinal parasitism in general remains high in Bobo-Dioulasso requiring the establishment of adequate diagnostic techniques,treatment and prevention.

Quenching residual stress distributions in aluminum alloy plates with different dimensions

Finite element method(FEM) simulations were employed to investigate the quenching residual stress distributions of 7085 aluminum alloy *** effect of dimensional variation on the quenching residual stress distributions was studied and discussed by using models with different dimensions(length,width,and thickness).The accuracy and efficiency of the models were verified by other numerical *** order of the dimension effects on the quenching residual stress distributions is:thickness> width=*** maximum tensile stress and compressive stress increase from 33 to 190 and 39 to 270 MPa,respectively,as the thickness increases from 30 to 150 *** ultimate maximum tensile stress(about190 MPa) is equivalent to half of the quenching yield strength at 20℃,while the ultimate maximum compressive stress(about 300 MPa) is equivalent to 80 % of the quenching yield strength at 20℃.There are stress fluctuations at the edge of the large plate both in rolling and in transverse *** ratio of the fluctuation region along the rolling direction and transverse direction increases as the thickness increases,while it decreases as the length or width *** actual length of the fluctuation region is almost a constant value for the plates with a thickness of 115 mm(about 500 mm in length and 300 mm in width).

Objective: To evaluate the toxicological and psychotropic properties of Calotropis(C.) procera. Methods: C. procera leaves and root-bark aqueous extracts were evaluated for their toxic and behavioral effects using adult mice. Toxicity studies were carried out using Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development guidelines 423 and 407 for acute and subacute evaluation. Behavioral studies were performed using traction test, fireplace test, hole-board test and forced-swimming test to evaluate the sedative, anxiety and depressive-like activities of the extracts. Results: Very low acute toxicity was observed in mice that received both leaves and rootbark extracts. The subacute test showed some morphological, biochemical and hematological changes in the treated groups. Behavioral assessment demonstrated anxiety effects on mice for C. procera leaf extract(400 mg/kg of body weight). Conclusions: The acute use of C. procera(leaves and root-barks) aqueous extracts could be considered as low toxic. However, their repeated uses could have harmful effect on some organs. Likewise, a single dose up to 400 mg/kg body weight of these extracts produce no sedative or depressive-like effect, but they possess possible dose dependent anxiety effect. Yet, more studies are necessary to relate these results to the chemical profile of the plant extracts.
