Mental health status of students’parents during COVID-19 pandemic and its influence factors

Background During the outbreak of COVID-19,the national policy of home quarantine may affect the mental health of parents.However,few studies have investigated the mental health of parents during the COVID-19 pandemic.Aims To investigate the depression,anxiety and stress of the students'parents during the COVID-19 pandemic,and to explore the influence factors,especially the influence of social support and family-related factors.Methods The Generalised Anxiety Disorder-7,Patient health Questionnaire-9,Perceived Stress Scale-10 and Social Support Rating Scale were applied to 1163 parents to measure the parents'depression,anxiety,stress and social support.Results(1)The detection rates of depression and anxiety in parents were 6.1%and 4.0%.The depression,anxiety and perceived stress of parents in central China were significantly higher than those in non-central China.The anxiety of college students'parents was lower than that of parents of the primary,middle and high school students.The depression,anxiety and perceived stress of parents with conflicts in the family were significantly higher than those with a harmonious family.Other factors that influence parents’depression,anxiety and perceived stress include marital satisfaction,social support,parents*history of mental illness and parenting style,etc.(2)The regression analysis results showed that perceived stress,social support,marital satisfaction,family conflicts,child's learning stage as well as parents'history of mental illness had significant effects on parents'anxiety and depression.Conclusion During the COVID-19 pandemic,the mental health of parents was affected by a variety of factors.Good marital relationships,good social support,family harmony and parents without a history of mental illness may be protective factors for parents*mental health,while perceived stress and child in middle or high school are risk factors for parents’mental health.

Overview of the reporter genes and reporter mouse models

Reporter genes are widely applied in biotechnology and biomedical research owning to their easy observation and lack of toxicity. Taking advantage of the reporter genes in conjunction with imaging technologies, a large number of reporter mouse models have been generated. Reporter mouse models provide systems that enable the studies of live cell imaging, cell lineage tracing, immunological research and cancers etc. in vivo. In this review, we describe the types of different reporter genes and reporter mouse models including, random reporter strains, Cre reporter strains and ROSA26 reporter strains. Collectively, these reporter mouse models have broadened scientific inquires and provided potential strategies for generation of novel reporter animal models with enhanced capabilities.

Background/Study Context To study the life quality of the inpatients suffering from elderly degenerative lumbar disease and its impacting factors.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted.All of the 125 patients were assessed by World health Organization Quality of Life Instruments(WHOQOL-BREF).Convenience sampling method was employed.The data was analyzed by STATA-10.0 using t-test.Results The t-test showed that participants with lesser pain had a higher life quality in physiology,psychology,and social fields than those with stronger pain.The t-test showed that the life quality of the inpatients could be impacted significantly by appetite and self-evaluation of health as well.Inpatients with poor self-evaluation demonstrated a significantly low life quality in physiology,psychology,and environment fields(phealth are leading factors impacting life quality of the senile patients suffering from degenerative lumbar diseases.

Cardiovascular health metrics are now widely recognized as modifable risk factors for cognitive decline and dementia.Metabolic perturbations might play roles in the linkage of cardiovascular diseases and dementia.Circulating metabolites profling by metabolomics may improve understanding of the potential mechanism by which cardiovascular risk factors contribute to cognitive decline.In a prospective community-based cohort in China(n=725),312 serum metabolic phenotypes were quantifed,and cardiovascular health score was calculated including smoking,exercise,sleep,diet,body mass index,blood pressure,and blood glucose.Cognitive function assessments were conducted in baseline and follow-up visits to identify longitudinal cognitive decline.A better cardiovascular health was signifcantly associated with lower risk of concentration decline and orientation decline(hazard ratio(HR):0.84–0.90;phealth status and the risk of orientation decline was partly mediated by cholesterol ester and total lipids in HDL-2 and-3(proportion of mediation:7.68–8.21%,both p<0.05).Cardiovascular risk factors were associated with greater risks of cognitive decline,which were found to be mediated by circulating lipoproteins,particularly the medium-size HDL components.These fndings underscore the potential of utilizing lipoproteins as targets for early stage dementia screening and intervention.

Criteria air pollutants and hospitalizations of a wide spectrum of cardiovascular diseases: A nationwide case-crossover study in China

Few national studies have systemically examined the effects of criteria air pollutants on cardiovascular morbidity.This study aimed to investigate the associations between all criteria air pollutants and hospitalization of causespecific cardiovascular diseases(CVD)in China.We obtained data on CVD hospitalization events of four major categories and 12 specific diseases from 153 hospitals distributed in 20 provincial-level regions from 2013 to 2020.We adopted a time-stratified case-crossover study design using individual cases to capture the effect of short-term exposure to six criteria air pollutants on CVD hospitalizations,using conditional logistic regression models.More than 1.1 million CVD hospitalization events were included.The lag pattern exploration demonstrated the largest effect for six air pollutants on lag 0–1 day.PM_(2.5),PM_(10),NO_(2),and CO were significantly associated with increased hospitalization from ischemic heart diseases,cerebrovascular diseases,other heart diseases,and five specific causes of CVD.The effect estimates of NO_(2)were the most robust when adjusting for copollutants.The concentration-response curves were positive and linear for most pollutant–endpoint pairs(except for O_(3)),and these positive associations remained even below the 24-h levels recommended by WHO Air Quality Guidelines and China Air Quality Standards.This nationwide case-crossover study in China demonstrated that short-term exposure to multiple ambient air pollutants may significantly increase the risk of cause-specific CVD hospitalizations even under the most stringent air quality regulations,striking an alert for potential CVD patients against these environmental risk factors.

COVID-19 vaccination program in the mainland of China: a subnational descriptive analysis on target population size and current progress

Background:China is facing substantial risks of imported coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)cases and a domestic resurgence in the long run,and COVID-19 vaccination is expected to be the long-lasting solution to end the pandemic.We aim to estimate the size of the target population for COVID-19 vaccination at the provincial level in the mainland of China,and summarize the current progress of vaccination programs,which could support local governments in the timely determination and adjustment of vaccination policies and promotional measures.Methods:We conducted a descriptive study of the entire population in the mainland of China,between December 2020 and August 2021.By extracting provincial-stratifed data from publicly available sources,we estimated the size of priority target groups for vaccination programs,and further characterized the ongoing vaccination program at the provincial level,including the total doses administered,the coverage rate,and the vaccination capacity needed to achieve the target coverage of 80%by the end of 2021.We used R(version 4.1.0)to complete the descriptive statistics.Results:The size of the target population shows large diferences among provinces,ranging from 3.4 million to 108.4 million.As of 31 August,2021,the speed of vaccine roll-out difers considerably as well,with the highest coverage occurring in Beijing and Shanghai,where 88.5%and 79.1%of the population has been fully vaccinated,respectively.In 22 of 31 provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs),more than 70%of the population was administered at least one dose by August.With the current vaccination capacity,the target of 80%coverage could be achieved by 2021 in 28 PLADs.Conclusions:Disparities exist in the target population size and vaccination progress across provinces in the mainland of China.China has made great strides in the vaccination speed since roll-out,and could basically achieve the targeted vaccine coverage.

Since the London fog in 1952, numerous epidemioLogical studies have revealed that both short-term and long-term exposure to air pollutants is associated with the development of diseases[1]. Up to date, the assessment of air quality on health and air quality standard establishment in developing countries were mainly relied on extrapolation based on the results from long-term cohort studies conducted in Europe and North America.

Differences of maternal mortality rate between Shanghai and New York city from the perspective of regulatory policy

Background:Regulatory policy(RP)is known as a major factor to improve health care system performance.A significant difference in maternal mortality rates(MMRs)was observed between New York city(NYC)and Shanghai(SH),both first-class international metropolises.This study aims to adopt a quantitative evaluation model to analyze whether RP differences contribute to the different MMRs of the two cities.Methods:Based on collection of all publicly released policy documents regarding maternal health in the two cities,we assessed and compared the status of their maternal health care RPs from 2006 to 2017 through a series of quantitative indicators as regulatory elements coverage rate(RECR),departmental responsibility clarity rate(DRCR),and accountability mechanism clarity rate(AMCR),based on two characteristics of comprehensiveness and effectiveness of RPs.Pearson correlation analysis,principal component analysis,and linear regression analysis were used to test the relationships between the indicators and MMR in SH and NYC.Results:By 2017,disparities of maternal health care RP are found between SH and NYC,from the indicators of RECR(100%vs.77.0%),DRCR(38.9%vs.45.1%),and AMCR(29.2%vs.22.5%).From 2006 to 2017,RECR,DRCR,and AMCR in SH have shown a higher growth of 8.7%,53.2%,and 45.2%,compared with growth of 25.0%,12.5%,and 2.9%in NYC.The three indicators were found all negatively correlated with MMR in SH(Coefficients=-0.831,-0.833,and-0.909,and Phealth care RPs in SH had a stronger impact on MMR control,which contributed to the differences between the two cities’MMRs to some extent.The methods and indicators we adopted for assessment are reasonable

Metallothionein 1 Isoform Gene Expression Induced by Cadmium in Human Peripheral Blood Lymphocytes

Objective To study the gene expression of metallothionein 1 （MT-1） isoforms in human peripheral blood lymphocytes （HPBLs）. Methods The expression of mRNA representing the seven active MT-I genes was determined in HPBLs by quantitative RT-PCR before and after exposure to cadmium. Results Basal expressions of MT-IX, and MT-1A in HPBLs were similar to expression of housekeeping gene. In contrast, the basal gene expressions of MT- 1 H, IF, 1E, and 1G were a little transcripts in human HPBLs. No signal was detected for MT-1B. There was a sex difference （P〈0.05）. in basal gene expression of MT-1E. The levels of gene expression of MT-1A, 1E, IF, 1G, 1H, and 1X increased, but the level of MT-1B did not increase after exposure to cadmium. Conclusions Gene expressions of MT-1 G, MT-1 H, MT-1 F, and MT-1X in HPBLs can be used as a potential biomarker of cadmium exposure.

背景:高危孕妇与普通孕妇相比在妊娠期会出现更多的并发症,高危因素作为一种应激因素更易诱发孕妇产生焦虑、抑郁等负面情绪症状。目前国内外对高危孕妇焦虑、抑郁症状的研究相对较少。目标:调查产科高危妊娠孕妇焦虑、抑郁症状发生率及其相关危险因素。方法:对197例孕中期(16-20周)的高危孕妇在妊娠最后4月每月进行综合性医院焦虑/抑郁量表(HAD)评估和风险因素调查。产后3-7天、42天及3月进行爱丁堡产后抑郁量表(EPDS)评估和风险因素调查。结果:入组时高危孕妇HAD焦虑均分:3.69(2.76),抑郁均分:3.42(2.53)。焦虑症状14例(7.18%),抑郁症状10例(5.13%)。多因素分析显示,怀孕有无保胎(OR:8.162,95%CI:1.213-54.914)和乙肝阳性(OR:8.912,95%CI:1.052-75.498)与焦虑症状相关。尿糖阳性(OR:30.529,95%CI:1.312-710.610)和既往出血史(OR:7.122,95%CI:1.015-49.984)与抑郁症状相关。孕期影响高危孕妇焦虑、抑郁症状的因素有:近3月孕妇健康状况、担心胎儿健康、夫妻关系、婆媳关系等。结论:高危妊娠孕妇焦虑、抑郁症状较常见。近3月孕妇健康状况、婆媳关系、夫妻关系、担心胎儿健康是高危孕妇孕期焦虑、抑郁症状的风险因素。
