A Novel Approach to Measuring Spatiotemporal Changes in Social Vulnerability at the Local Level in Portugal

Social vulnerability,as one of the risk components,partially explains the magnitude of the impacts observed after a *** this study,a spatiotemporally comparable assessment of social vulnerability and its drivers was conducted in Portugal,at the civil parish level,for three census *** first challenging step consisted of the selection of meaningful and consistent variables over *** were normalized using the Adjusted Mazziotta-Pareto Index(AMPI)to obtain comparable adimensional-normalized values.A joint principal component analysis(PCA)was applied,resulting in a robust set of variables,interpretable from the point of view of their self-grouping around vulnerability drivers.A separate PCA for each census was also conducted,which proved to be useful in analyzing changes in the composition and type of drivers,although only the joint PCA allows the monitoring of spatiotemporal changes in social vulnerability scores and drivers from 1991 to 2011.A general improvement in social vulnerability was observed for *** two main drivers are the economic condition(PC1),and aging and depopulation(PC2).The remaining drivers highlighted are uprooting and internal mobility,and daily *** data proved their value in the territorial,social,and demographic characterization of the country,to support medium-and long-term disaster risk reduction measures.

Streets and physical layouts can be inherent in a sustainable city by emphasizing the use of space with planned strategies by promoting the movement of people and social behaviors for enhancing an economic *** analysis of the space layout is beneficial for defining the urban areas that can affect street behavior.A GIS incorporated with a space syntax can help to propagate the effectiveness of a spatial analysis in a study on urban *** integration of the computational pieces of both a GIS analytical tool and space syntax parameters will stimulate research oriented urban systems and spatial morphologies combined with a spatial ***,the development of livability can be affected by a set of parameters that define the used ***,this paper was aimed at examining the space syntax parameters for space visualization to evaluate street behavior using the GIS processing and space syntax *** this study,a spatial analysis was used to generate spatial information on traffic volume,while a space syntax was used to test the street ***,a predictive analysis was conducted to identify the correlation between traffic behavior and a set of *** results showed that integration and direct visibility were significant to the traffic *** of the streets that were linked to the commercial area showed high integration and direct visibility,which increased by more than half,compared with the unlinked *** on the statistical analysis,both parameters recorded aprobability of less than 5%.The results showed that any space designed with a continuous,direct and clear traffic volume will lead to increased integration and direct visibility,thus influencing a natural vehicle movement.

The three contemporary Chinese architects, namely Yung Ho Chang, Liu Jiakun, and Wang Shu, have often been labeled as the ＇avant-garde＇ or xianfeng architects in China. In response to the xionfeng architect labet, Wang claims that he is a houfeng （rear-guard） architect because of his obsession with traditions. This paper aims to discuss the appropriateness of labeling these architects as ＇avant-garde,＇ xianfeng, or houfeng. Through the theoreticat anatysis of western discourse, notable attributes of the western architectural avant-garde are identified, and a tentative framework is developed to test its validity and usefulness in a non-western context. The term youleng is arguably a better phrase to describe these three Chinese architects considering the heterogeneous trajectory of modernity in China.

The demand for tree height derivation is increasing year by year,especially for large plantation and forest *** conventional method needs a long time to complete tree measurement for large forest area,especially when using a pole,measuring tape,rangefinder,clinometer,and tree *** study aims to evaluate the height of oil palm tree based on crown diameter by using a multi-rotor Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV).Digital Elevation Model(DEM)and orthophoto were generated by using Agisoft software,while oil palm tree crown diameter was delineated by using seed generation with Quantum Geographic Information System(QGIS)and Seeded Region Growing(SRG)segmentation methods in the System for Automated Geoscientific Analysis(SAGA).The study validates the results between the actual tree height and tree height estimated from *** results showed that the orthophoto was successfully generated with a Ground Sampling Distance(GSD)of 2.95 cm and 129 tree crowns were successfully *** accuracy of the tree height as compared to the actual measurement was 57.7 *** conclusion,UAV images are capable of determining the tree height after going through the correct procedure to help foresters in their daily task.

The ptanning process in a planning studio demonstrates a microcosm of diverse concepts of ideotogies and identities seeking acknowtedgment and spatial recognition. In the modern world of muitipte and dynamic identities and ideologies, aspiring for the self-recognition of regions, towns, and communities, a place-based identity has become a core aspect that needs to be taken into planning consideration. The anatytic planning method used is iterative of both topdown and bottom-up approaches, thereby creating multi-dimension and coherent planning atternatives where spatial sotutions arise from communities along their changing processes. We present two spatiat atternative plans that were developed in the studio course and are based on this fine of thinking. Resutts were very dynamic aspiring complex plans, which are also highty appticable and flexible, thereby addressing a wide range of ideotogies and identities.

Extreme weather anomalies such as rainfall and its subsequent flood events are governed by complex weather systems and interactions between them. It is important to understand the drivers of such events as it helps prepare for and mitigate or respond to the related impacts. In line with the above statements, quarter-hourly data for the year 2021 recorded in the Yaounde meteorological station were synthesized to come out with daily and dekadal (10-day averaged) anomalies of six climate factors (rainfall, temperature, insolation, relative humidity, dew point and wind speed), in order to assess the occurrences and severity of floods to changing weather patterns in Yaounde. In addition, Precipitation Concentration Index (PCI) was computed to evaluate the distribution and analyse the frequency and intensity of precipitation. Coefficient of variation (CV) was used to estimate the seasonal and annual variation of rainfall patterns, while Mann-Kendall (MK) trend test was performed to detect weather anomalies (12-month period variation) in quarter-hourly rainfall data from January 1st to December 31st 2021. The Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) was also used to quantify the rainfall deficiency of the observed time scale. Results reveal that based on the historical data from 1979 to 2018 in the bimodal rainfall forest zone, maximum and minimum temperature averages recorded in Yaounde in 2021 were mostly above historical average values. Precipitations were rare during dry seasons, with range value of 0 - 13.6 mm for the great dry season and 0 - 21.4 mm for the small dry season. Whereas during small and great rainy seasons, rainfalls were regular with intensity varying between 0 and 50 mm, and between 0 and 90.4 mm, respectively. The MK trend test showed that there was a statistical significant increase in rainfall trend for the month of August at a 5% level of significance, while a significant decreasing trend was observed in July and December. 榫卯,是木构建筑、器物中的节点形式。当两块木料相接,不借助其他属性黏合或连接材料(如胶或金属连接件),而利用木料交接部位的几何形态咬合在一起。这种构造手法,在东亚与欧洲建筑文明中均有着数千年传统、高度发达。虽然基本原理相同,木构文明的榫卯构造又有各自的特点,而特征和差异扎根于不同文明的地理环境、木材特性、匠作工具和结构体系。为了精要地对中国、日本与欧洲西部的木构技术做出对比,选取三种文明中的传统木框架建筑作为着眼点,本文讨论三种文明木建筑的结构、构造差异,并提示节点技术与其他层面技术问题的关联。得出的主要结论是,东亚的木作传统更重视构造,使用构造手段去解决多层次的结构受力与建筑安全问题,节点构造的意义较之西方与境下“节点”的含义更加宽广,榫卯技术的演化也更为发达。而欧洲木作更重视结构设计,榫卯构造作为结构“节点”,在结构中的功能相对明晰。本文对于榫卯技术的研究,提示我们对传统营造技术的研究当贯通地理环境、材料资源、工艺与工具、构造手法、结构造型与结构体系的全方位技术流程。
