Long-term effects of drug-eluting stents versus bare metal stents on patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention： outcomes of 3-year clinical follow-up

Background The long-term safety and efficacy of drug-eluting stents （des） versus bare metal stents （BMS） are unclear and controversial issues in patients with acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction （STEMI） undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI）. The purpose of this study was to compare the long-term outcome of STEMI patients undergoing primary PCI with des versus BMS implantation. Methods A total of 191 patients with acute STEMI undergoing PCI from Jan. 2005 to Dec. 2007 were enrolled. Patients received des （n=83） or BMS （n=108） implantation in the infarction related artery according to physician＇s discretion. The primary outcome was the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events （MACE）, which was defined as a composite of death, myocardial infarction （MI）, target vessel revascularization （TVR） and stent thrombosis. The difference of MACE was observed between des and BMS groups. Results The clinical follow-up duration was 3 years （（41.7±16.1） months）. MACE occurred in 20 patients during three years follow-up. Logistic regression analysis showed that the left ventricular ejection fraction （LVEF） was an independent predictor for MACE in the follow-up period （P=0.0301）. There was no significant difference in all-cause mortality （3.61% vs. 7.41%, P=0.2647）, the incidence of myocardial infarction （0 vs. 0.93%, P=-0.379） and stent thrombosis （1.20% vs. 1.85%, P=0.727） between the des group and BMS group. The incidence of MACE was significantly lower in the des group compared to the BMS group （4.82% vs. 14.81%, P=0.0253）. The rate of TVR was also lower in the des group （0 vs. 5.56%, P=0.029）. In the des group, there was no significant difference in the incidence of MACE between sirolimus eluting stents （SES, n=73） and paclitaxel-eluting stents （PES, n=10） subgroups （2.74% vs. 20.00%, P 〉0.05）. Stable flies(Stomoxys spp.)are common pests of livestock in the peri-urban rangelands of Vina Division of the Adamawa *** documented information is available on their diurnal dynamics in relation to physiological age and *** main aim of this study was to determine the trap apparent density(ADT)of Stomoxys and associate it to their diurnal activity rhythm and *** traps(n=12)were used for Stomoxys *** was carried out for seven days *** days consecutively in August and four days consecutively in October,*** traps were pitched in each of the three biotopes(river,cattle corral and gallery forest)of the four study sites(Galim,Mbidjoro,Velambai and Soukourwo).All female Stomoxys captured underwent ovarian dissection for the determination of their physiological ages(parous or nulliparous).A total of 218 Stomoxys were caught and identified into four species(*** niger,***,***,and ***)with an overall ADT of 2.59 flies per trap per day and Stomoxys niger niger(1.13 *** trap per day)recorded the highest *** richness was study site *** catches of females 113(51.83%)were made than that of their male 105(48.17%)*** recorded the highest Stomoxys apparent density(4.90)as compared to other sites with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).The proportion of parous 87(59.30%)was higher than that of their nulliparous 46(40.71%)*** differed with landscape and capture *** was the most frequent in all biotopes and Galim recorded the highest *** population of female flies was made up of adults(parous)with a bimodal diurnal activity rhythm whereas males had a unimodal activity rhythm.

Severe anemia during pregnancy remains an acute maternal health problem in low income countries and its management is a challenge. This study aimed to analyze the characteristics of hospitalized pregnant women with severe anemia and issue of the management in a regional hospital of a low income country. Material and Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive study from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2008, at a regional hospital maternity. Data of the 283 pregnancy severe anemia cases have been analyzed using usual Pearson’s Chi square test or Fisher’s exact test. Results: Of the 283 women with pregnancy severe anemia, 98% were illiterate, 98% were household women;majority were in the third trimester (64%);41% had no previous delivery;49% did not had antenatal care. There were no statistics association between hemoglobin values stage and gestational age, gravidity and parity. During the hospitalization, from the 283 women with pregnancy severe anemia, deliveries occurred on 22.6%;abortion on 1%. From the 64 deliveries, 45.3% were alive preterm birth, 20.3% preterm stillbirth, 25.0% at term birth and 9.4% at term stillbirth. Between the 45 alive babies, 91% were low birth weight. In global, from the 283 women, mortality rate was 2.8%. Conclusion:?Severe anemia during pregnancy results in maternal mortality, preterm, low birth and stillbirth even between hospitalized women. As most of the pregnancy anemia risk factors are chronic poverty related factors, intervention must be focused on prevention including health pregnant women iron supplementation and adequate nutritional diet promoting at both health facilities and community level.

Olive Mill Solid Wastes (OMSW) released in nature without any treatment is a major environmental problem in the Mediterranean region. In this work, the catalyzed pyrolysis of OMSW has been investigated. A catalyst based on SBA-15 mesoporous silica doped with chromium ferrite nanoparticles was prepared by the double solvent technique (DS). The prepared catalyst was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Wide and Small Angle X-ray Scattering (WAXS, SAXS), Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) and FT-IR spectroscopies. Reverse spinel chromium ferrite nanoparticles were located inside the SBA-15 pores as confirmed by SEM images. The obtained catalyst was tested for pyrolysis reactions of OMSW. Several parameters were studied to optimize the conditions of the pyrolysis reaction in order to increase the bio-oil conversion yield. The GC-MS results demonstrated that the quality of the obtained bio-oil was improved by decreasing the quantity of phenolic and oxygenated components as well as the size of the obtained molecules. The produced bio-oil from pyrolysis of OMSW is identical to that obtained from the pyrolysis of commercial cellulose under the same conditions. A 37% conversion yield of bio-oil was obtained for the best conditions.

Frequency of Distal Sensory Polyneuropathy among Diabetics in Parakou in 2012

Background: The distal sensory polyneuropathy (DSP) was more frequent among diabetics, although its determinant was not well known among diabetics in Benin. Objective: We aimed to assess the frequency of DSP and its determinants among diabetics at Parakou. Methods: It was a cross-sectional study carried out from 1 March to 31 August 2012 and included 336 diabetics followed at the diabetes unit of Parakou hospital. The diagnosis of DSP was based on DNS (Diabetic Neuropathy Score) criteria and other criteria. All data concerning the diabetes mellitus were recorded. We used Epi-Info and SPSS 16.0 software to perform analysis. Results: They were 187 females (56.0%) with the mean age of 54.9 ± 10.9 years. 298 patients fulfilled criteria for DSP;the overall prevalence of DSP was 88.7%. The main associated factors in multivariate analysis were treatment duration of diabetes more than 4 years: OR = 36.7 [4.0 - 336.9];the elevated glycaemia: OR = 3.1 [1.4 - 7.1];the activity with high income: OR = 0.2 [0.0 - 0.8];the ethnicity: nagots/fon: OR: 3.7 [1.4 - 12.5]. Conclusion: Those results suggested the high frequency of DSP among diabetics at Parakou.

Contribution of Promiscuous Soybean （Glycine max L.） to Upland Rice-based Cropping Systems in West Africa

A two-year on-farm study was carried out at Eglime in the moist savanna （MS） and Ouake in the dry savanna （DS） of Benin to evaluate the contribution of inoculation of dual-purpose soybean varieties to grain yield of upland NERICA rice fertilized with low N level. In 2005, four dual-purpose, promiscuous soybean varieties （cv. TGx1440-IE; TG×1448-2E; TG×1019-2EB; and TG×1844-18E）, and a popular improved variety （cv. Jupiter） were sown in 12 farmer fields with and without Bradyrhizobium japonicum inoculation. There was also land which was left fallow that acted as the control. In 2006, upland interspecific rice （NERICA 1） was sown in all the plots and supplied with 15 kg N haL. Dry matter yield, N accumulation, and net N-balance were significantly enhanced by over 40% with inoculation of cv. TG× 1844-18E than non-inoculation in the DS in comparison to other cultivars. There were no significant effects of inoculation of previous soybean cultivars on soybean grain yield and on the succeeding NERICA rice yield. Averaged over inoculation, previous cv. TG× 1019-2EB plots supplied with only 15 kg N hal gave the highest grain yield, more than twice the yield of control plots in the DS, possibly because of significant production of higher tillers, panicles and harvest index than the other cultivars; and it could be recommended for upland rice-based system for NERICA production.
