Brain plasticity-A universal tool with many variations:The study of brain plasticity has been gaining interest since almost a century and has now reached a huge amount of information(>80,000 results in PubMed).Overall,different types of plasticity,including stem cell-driven genesis of new neurons(adult neurogenesis),cells in arrested maturation(dormant neurons),neuro-glial and synaptic plasticity,can coexist and contribute to grant plastic changes in the brain,from a cellular to system level(Benedetti and Couillard-Despres,2022;Bonfanti et al.,2023).

The role of copper element has been an increasingly relevant topic in recent years in the fields of human and animal health, for both the study of new drugs and innovative food and feed supplements. This metal plays an important role in the central nervous system, where it is associated with glutamatergic signaling, and it is widely involved in inflammatory processes. Thus, diseases involving copper(Ⅱ) dyshomeostasis often have neurological symptoms, as exemplified by Alzheimer's and other diseases(such as Parkinson's and Wilson's diseases). Moreover, imbalanced copper ion concentrations have also been associated with diabetes and certain types of cancer, including glioma. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive overview of recent results that show the importance of these metal ions in several pathologies, mainly Alzheimer's disease, through the lens of the development and use of copper chelators as research compounds and potential therapeutics if included in multi-target hybrid drugs. Seeing how copper homeostasis is important for the well-being of animals as well as humans, we shortly describe the state of the art regarding the effects of copper and its chelators in agriculture, livestock rearing, and aquaculture, as ingredients for the formulation of feed supplements as well as to prevent the effects of pollution on animal productions.

Objective: Information regarding the development of the enteric nervous system(ENS) is important for understanding the functional abnormalities of the *** fertilized chicken eggs provide easy access to embryos,chicken models have been widely used to study embryonic development of myenteric plexus;however,no study has been focused on the postnatal *** aim of this study was to perform a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the nitrergic neurons in the myenteric plexus of developing chickens in the postnatal ***: Whole-mount preparations of the myenteric plexus were made in 7-d,15-d,and 40-d old(adult) chickens of either sex(n=15).The myenteric plexus was studied after nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate diaphorase(NADPH-d) histochemistry using light microscopy,digital photography,and Image-Pro Plus 6.0 *** numbers of positively stained neurons and ganglia were counted in the duodenum,jejunum,ileum,caecum,and colon in the different age *** were expressed as mean±standard deviation(SD),and statistical analysis was performed using a one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) ***: The positively stained neurons showed various morphologies and staining intensities,and formed bead-shaped and U-shaped arrangements in the myenteric *** densities of neurons and ganglia increased with ***,the number of positive neurons per ganglion *** number of NADPH-d-positive neurons was highest in the colon,followed by the ileum,the jejunum,the duodenum,and the caeca in all age ***: Developmental changes in the myenteric plexus of chickens continue in the postnatal period,indicating that the maturation process of the gastrointestinal function is *** addition,no significant difference is happening among different intestinal segments during postnatal development,suggesting that the function of different intestinal segments had been determined after birth.

Objective:To investigate the safety levels of hydromethanol leaf extract of Helianthus annuus Linn.(***) in ***:Acute oral toxicity test of hydromethanol leaf extract of *** was conducted through up and down method at 2.00 g/kg dose limit in *** chronic toxicity study was conducted by administering different concentrations(0.25,0.50 and 1.00 g/kg) of hydromethanol extract of *** in feed,for 90 consecutive *** days 30,60 and 90,blood samples were collected from the retro-orbital plexus of the rats for determination of serum biochemical *** examination of the pancreas,livers,kidneys and testis were also ***:The LD_(50) of the hydromethanol extract of *** greater than 2.00 g/kg and it significantly(P < 0.05) reduced serum *** days 60 and 90,the serum urea and creatinine levels of hydromethanol extract of *** groups were elevated when compared with the control *** were fibrosis in the kidneys and livers;degeneration and necrosis in the testis and significant dose-dependent increases in number and size of pancreatic islet of ***:The findings suggest that hydromethanol extract of *** is tolerated in short term administration,but long term(up to 90 days) administration at high doses,may elicit hepatic,testicular and nephrotic disorder.

Structural plasticity is critical for the functional diversity of neurons in the *** autoimmune encephalomyelitis(EAE)is the most commonly used model for multiple sclerosis(MS),successfully mimicking its key pathological features(inflammation,demyelination,axonal loss,and gliosis)and clinical symptoms(motor and non-motordysfunctions).Recentstudieshave demonstrated the importance of synaptic plasticity in EAE *** the present study,we investigated the features of behavioral alteration and hippocampal structural plasticity in EAE-affected mice in the early phase(11 days post-immunization,DPI)and chronic phase(28DPI).EAE-affected mice exhibited hippocampus-related behavioral dysfunction in the open field test during both early and chronic *** complexity was largely affected in the cornu ammonis 1(CA1)and CA3 apical and dentate gyrus(DG)subregions of the hippocampus during the chronic phase,while this effect was only noted in the CA1 apical subregion in the early ***,dendritic spine density was reduced in the hippocampal CA1 and CA3 apical/basal and DG subregions in the early phase of EAE,but only reduced in the DG subregion during the chronic ***,mRNA levels of proinflammatory cytokines(Il1β,Tnfα,and Ifnγ)and glial cell markers(Gfap and Cd68)were significantly increased,whereas the expression of activity-regulated cytoskeletonassociated protein(ARC)was reduced during the chronic ***,exposure to the aforementioned cytokines in primary cultures of hippocampal neurons reduced dendritic complexity and ARC *** cultures of hippocampal neurons also showed significantly reduced extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK)phosphorylation upon treatment with proinflammatory ***,these results suggest that autoimmune neuroinflammation alters structural plasticity in the hippocampus,possibly through the ERK-ARC pathway,indicating that this alteration may be associated with hi

Background : This study examined the ameliorative effect of D-3-O-methylchiroinositol, isolated from the stem bark of Piliostigma thonningii, on cadmium chloride-induced osteoporosis in male Wistar rats. Methods : Thirty-six rats were assigned to three treatment groups(n = 12). Group A(2 mL distilled water), group B:(2.5 mg/kg b.w. CdCl_2) and group C:(2.5 mg/kg b.w. CdCl_2 and D-3-O-methyl-chiroinositol 2 mg/kg b.w.). Bone ash, calcium, phosphate, magnesium, and zinc content, as well as bone histological changes were determined at the end of months 1, 2, and 3. Results : There were significant differences( P ≤ 0.05) in the weight of the cervical, tibia, and femoral bones in all groups. The serum concentration of CdCl_2 was significantly different across the three groups with time. There was significant variation( P < 0.005) in the mean bone ash across groups. The concentration of OH-proline was significantly different( P < 0.0001) across groups. There were significant differences( P < 0.0001) in bone calcium, magnesium, zinc, and phosphorus concentrations. Histology revealed high levels of bone mineralisation in the CdCl_2-treated group, indicative of osteoporosis with hypertrophied osteocytes, while the femur of Wistar rats treated with D-3-O-methyl-chiroinositol showed bone trabeculae and viable osteocytes. Conclusion : The study concluded that D-3-O-methyl-chiroinositol extract from Piliostigma thionningii stem bark ameliorated cadmium chloride-induced osteoporosis in male Wistar rats.

AIM:To investigate whether silencing Fas-associated phosphatase 1(FAP-1)expression enhances the efficiency of chemotherapy for colon carcinoma with ***:Expression of FAP-1 in mRNA and protein was detected by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR)and flow *** interfering RNA(siRNA)was designed according to the FAP-1 mRNA *** proliferation was evaluated by methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium(MTT)*** V-and propidine iodine(PI)were assayed by flow cytometry for the detection of apoptosis. RESULTS:The expression of FAP-1 was increased in SW480 cells after chemotherapy with oxaliplatin. Transfection of FAP-1 siRNA into SW480 cells silenced the expression of FAP-1 and consequently abolished the inhibitory function of Fas/FasL-mediated apoptosis pathway,thus increasing the efficacy of chemotherapy for colon carcinoma with oxaliplatin. CONCLUSION:RNA interference combined with conventional chemotherapy is more effective against colon cancer.
