Dear Editor,Approximately 20% of men with nonobstructive azoospermia （NOA） are diagnosed with infertility caused by genetic defects.1 These include chromosomal abnormalities, Y-chromosome microdeletions, and several specific gene mutations/deletions, such as in DAZ, RBMY, USP9Y, SYCP3, HSF2, PLK4, and TEX11.1,2 Several histones have been detected in mammalian testes, and testis-specific variants are specifically and highly expressed during spermatogenesis^3.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that personality traits are associated with self-harm(SH)in ***,the role of resilience in this association remains *** research aims to explore the hypothesized mediation effect of resilience in the relationship between personality traits and SH in Chinese children and *** To evaluate resilience as a mediator of the association between personality traits and *** A population-based cross-sectional survey involving 4471 children and adolescents in Yunnan province in southwestern China was carried *** data were collected by self-reporting *** and multivariate logistic regression models were employed to identify associated factors of SH.A path model was used to assess the mediation effect of resilience with respect to personality traits and SH *** Among the 4471 subjects,1795 reported SH,with a prevalence of 40.1%(95%CI:34.4%-46.0%).All dimensions of personality traits were significantly associated with SH *** significantly mediated the associations between three dimensions of personality(extroversion,neuroticism,psychoticism)and SH,accounting for 21.5%,4.53%,and 9.65%,respectively,of the total *** all dimensions of resilience,only emotional regulation played a significant mediation *** The results of the study suggest that improving emotion regulation ability might be effective in preventing personality-associated SH among Chinese children and adolescents.

Knowledge about plant diversity along disturbance gradients is essential for conservation and management of fragmented coastal *** study examined the effects of human disturbance intensity in coastal habitats of Kuwait on diversity,composition,identity and assemblage of vascular plant *** survey data from 113 plots （5m×5m each） were randomly selected in 51 sites at coastal fragmented habitats at three levels of disturbance intensities （high,moderate and low） and were statistically *** results revealed that about 76% of the recorded species are considered threatened species in Kuwait,most of which are being lost in high disturbed *** led to the dominance of Zygophyllum qatarense,Cornulaca aucheri and Salsola imbricata,which are species of disturbance ***,total plant cover and species diversity were higher in moderate and low disturbed habitats than in high disturbed *** diversity between high and low disturbed habitats was higher than either between high and moderate,or between moderate and low disturbed *** analyses showed statistically significant differences in composition of plant assemblages,which indicate high beta diversity between the habitat *** urbanization and industrialization are among the most serious threats that contribute to declines in biological diversity and rapid fragmentation of coastal habitats in *** protective enclosures in the disturbed habitats,planting endangered and vulnerable species,and establishing a natural reserve at Nuwaiseeb are recommended conservation actions to avoid loss of the fragmented coastal habitats and to facilitate restoration of native plants.

Background: Acute pancreatitis(AP) continues to cause significant morbidity and mortality, especially when it leads to infected pancreatic necrosis(IPN). Modern treatment of IPN frequently involves prolonged courses of antibiotics in combination with minimally invasive therapies. This study aimed to update the existing evidence base by identifying the pathogens causing IPN and therefore aid future selection of empirical antibiotics. Methods: Clinical data, including microbiology results, of consecutive patients with IPN undergoing minimally invasive necrosectomy at our institution between January 2009 and July 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. Results: The results of 40 patients(22 males and 18 females, median age 60 years) with IPN were reviewed. The etiology of AP was gallstones, alcohol, dyslipidemia and unknown in 31, 2, 2 and 5 patients, respectively. The most frequently identified microbes in microbiology cultures were Enterococcus faecalis and faecium(22.5% and 20.0%) and Escherichia coli(20.0%). In 19 cases the cultures grew multiple organisms. The antibiotics with the least resistance amongst the microbiota were teicoplanin(5.0%), linezolid(5.6%), ertapenem(6.5%), and meropenem(7.4%). Conclusion: The carbapenem antibiotics, ertapenem and meropenem provide good antimicrobial cover against the common, mainly enteral, microorganisms causing IPN. Culture and sensitivity results of acquired samples should be regularly reviewed to adjust prescribing and monitor for emergence of resistance.

Objective:To investigate the relationship between malaria parasite status and cholesterol level of 110 consenting subjects(55 patients and 55 controls) in parts of the Imo River Basin of Nigeria. Methods:Giemsa staining was used for malaria parasite examination while Randox cholesterol kit was used for cholesterol level ***:About 49 persons(90%) with malaria had low cholesterol(<180 mg/dL).Highest mean cholesterol levels were 274 mg/dL for study patients and 220 mg/dL for controls respectively;Lowest mean cholesterol levels were 168 mg/dL (patienls) and 138 mg/dL(controls) *** cholesterol levels(< 180 mg/dL) were found in patients(84%) and controls(6%) ***.16.4%of controls and 6%of patients had borderline cholesterol level(200-239 mg/dL).This study establishes a significant correlation(12.9%.P<0.01) between malaria parasite status and cholesterol ***: These findings imply that choleslerol level estimation may be a potential concurrent and valuable diagnosis for malaria status.

AIM To assessed the effect of liver cirrhosis(LC) on the poorly understood long-term mortality risk after firstever mechanical ventilation(1-MV) for acute respiratory *** All patients in Taiwan given a 1-MV between 1997 and 2013 were identified in Taiwan's Longitudinal health Insurance Database 2000. Each patient with LC was individually matched, using a propensity-score method, to two patients without LC. The primary outcome was death after a *** A total of 16653 patients were enrolled: 5551 LC-positive (LC^([Pos])) patients, including 1732 with cryptogenic LCs and 11102 LC-negative(LC^([Pos])) controls. LC^([Pos]) patients had more organ failures and were more likely to be admitted to medical department than were LC^([Pos]) controls. LC^([Pos]) patients had a significantly lower survival rate(AHR = 1.38, 95%CI: 1.32-1.44). Moreover, the mortality risk was significantly higher for patients with non-cryptogenic LC than for patients with cryptogenic LC(AHR = 1.43, 95%CI: 1.32-1.54) and patients without LC(AHR = 1.56, 95%CI: 1.32-1.54). However, there was no significant difference between patients with cryptogenic and without LC(HR = 1.05, 95%CI: 0.98-1.12).CONCLUSION LC, especially non-cryptogenic LC, significantly increases the risk of death after a 1-MV.
