Background:Vasovagal syncope(VVS)greatly impairs quality of *** therapeutic efficacy of oral rehydration saline(ORS)for unselected VVS patients is not satisfactory due to the diverse mechanisms of the *** mass index(BMI)was demonstrated to reflect blood volume to a certain ***,the present study explored the capability of BMI to predict the therapeutic response of children with VVS to ORS ***:Seventy-four children with VVS who visited the Syncope Unit of Pediatrics at Peking University First Hospital from November 2010 to June 2019 receiving ORS treatment were enrolled for this retrospective case-control study.A comparison of demographic,clinical,and hemodynamic characteristics was performed between responders and *** correlation between baseline BMI and response time was *** determine the value of baseline BMI in predicting the therapeutic efficacy of ORS in children with VVS,a receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was ***:Fifty-two children were identified as responders,and the remaining 22 children were identified as *** baseline BMI of the responders was much lower than that of the non-responders(16.4[15.5,17.8]kg/m2vs.20.7±3.6 kg/m2,P<0.001),and baseline BMI was positively correlated with response time in the head-up tilt test after adjusting for sex(r=0.256,95%confidence interval[CI]:0.067-0.439,P=0.029).The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of baseline BMI was 0.818(95%CI:0.704-0.932,P<0.001),and an optimal cut-off value of 18.9 kg/m2 yielded a sensitivity of 83%and a specificity of 73%to predict the efficacy of ORS in ***:Prior to treatment,baseline BMI is a promising predictor of response to ORS in children with VVS.

This study investigates the suction and magnetic field effects on the two-dimensional nanofluid flow through a stretching/shrinking sheet at the stagnation point in the porous medium with thermal *** governing partial differential equations(PDEs)are converted into ordinary differential equations(ODEs)using the similarity *** resulting ODEs are then solved numerically by using the bvp4c solver in MATLAB *** was found that dual solutions exist for the shrinking parameter values up to a certain *** numerical results obtained are compared,and the comparison showed a good agreement with the existing results in the *** governing parameters’effect on the velocity,temperature and nanoparticle fraction fields as well as the skin friction coefficient,the local Nusselt number and the Sherwood number are represented graphically and *** variation of the velocity,temperature and concentration increase with the increase in the suction and magnetic field *** seems that the thermal radiation effect has increased the local Sherwood number while the local Nusselt number is reduced with it.

BACKGROUND: The purposes of this study were to confirm the changes in myocardial collagen level after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) support in dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), find the relation between these changes and prognosis, and test a practical method to assess the level of myocardial collagen. METHODS: Left ventricular samples were collected from DCM patients with different prognosis (transplanted group n = 8, weaning group n = 10) at the time when the LVADs were implanted and again during cardiac transplantation (n = 8). The level of neutral salt soluble collagen (NSC) and acid soluble collagen (ASC) was measured by Sircol collagen assay, and that of total collagen and insoluble collagen (ISC) by quantification of hydroxyproline (Hyp). Serum samples were collected from a portion of these patients (transplanted group, n = 6; weaning group n = 7) at the time the LVADs were implanted, 1 month after implantation and on explantation. Circulating concentration of carboxy-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen (P I CP), amino-terminal propeptide of type I procollagen (P I NP), amino-terminal propeptide of type III procollagen (P III NP) and type I collagen telopeptide (I CTP) were measured by the equilibrium type radioimmunoassay. The World health Organization(WHO)declared monkeypox as a public health emergency of international concern(PHEIC)on July 23,2022,their highest level of *** raised concerns about the management of the global monkeypox outbreak,as well as the scientific analysis and accurate prediction of the future course of the *** study used EpiSIX(an analysis and prediction system for epidemics based on a general SEIR model)to analyze the monkeypox epidemic and to forecast the major tendencies based on data from the USA CDC(https://***)and the WHO(https://***/health-topics/monkeypox).The global outbreak of monkeypox started in the UK on May 2,2022,which marked the beginning of an epidemic *** of October 28,2022,the cumulative number of reported cases worldwide was 77,115,with 36 *** simulations predict that the global monkeypox epidemic will enter a low epidemic status on March 1,2023 with the cumulative number of confirmed cases ranging from 85,000 to 124,000,and the total number of deaths ranging from 60 to *** analysis revealed that the basic reproduction number(R0)of monkeypox virus(MPXV)is near to 3.1 and the percentage of asymptomatic individuals is 13.1%–14.5%,both of which are similar to the data for *** vaccination efficiency against susceptibility(VEs)of individuals who have had monkeypox is~79%,and the vaccination efficiency against infectiousness(VEi)of individuals who have had monkeypox is~76%–82%.The mean incubation period for monkeypox is 8 *** total,94.7%of infected individuals develop symptoms within 20 days and recover within 2 weeks after the confirmation of *** results using EpiSIX showed that ring vaccination was remarkably effective against *** findings confirmed that a 20-day isolation for close contacts is necessary.

Nonpharmaceutical interventions(NPIs),particularly contact tracing isolation and household quarantine,play a vital role in effectively bringing the Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)under control in *** pairwise model,has an inherent advantage in characterizing those two NPIs than the classical well-mixed ***,in this paper,we devised a pairwise epidemic model with NPIs to analyze COVID-19 outbreak in China by using confirmed cases during February 3rde22nd,*** explicitly incorporating contact tracing isolation and family clusters caused by household quarantine,our model provided a good fit to the trajectory of COVID-19 *** calculated the reproduction number R=1.345(95%CI:1.230-1.460)for Hubei province and R=1.217(95%CI:1.207-1.227)for China(except Hubei).We also estimated the peak time of infections,the epidemic duration and the final size,which are basically consistent with real *** indicated by simulation that the traced high-risk contacts from incubated to susceptible decrease under NPIs,regardless of infected *** sensitivity analysis showed that reducing the exposure of the susceptible and increasing the clustering coefficient bolster COVID-19 *** the enforcement of household quarantine,the reproduction number R and the epidemic prevalence declined ***,we obtained the resumption time of work and production in China(except Hubei)on 10th March and in Hubei at the end of April 2020,respectively,which is broadly in line with the actual *** results may provide some potential lessons from China on the control of COVID-19 for other parts of the world.

Celiac Disease Knowledge and Practice of Dietitians in Rural New South Wales, Australia

This study aimed to evaluate dietetic practices for patients with celiac disease and knowledge of celiac disease amongst rural dietitians. This study comprised of two parts: 1) a retrospective file audit of patients with celiac disease attending a rural dietetic outpatient clinic in NSW, Australia from 2007 to 2014 and 2) a cross-sectional survey of 25 dietitians within a rural Local health District in NSW. Celiac disease related knowledge and diet therapy practices were assessed. Data were reported using descriptive statistics. The patient file audit (n = 17) indicated that the majority of patients (59%) had no follow-up with a dietitian. Education topics provided by dietitians included gluten-free food options (53%) and label reading (41%). Dietitians (n = 18, 72% response rate) achieved a mean score of 73% (range 48% - 90%) for celiac disease related food knowledge and 69% (range 50% - 90%) for screening and diagnosis knowledge. Perceived barriers for compliance with a gluten-free diet included limited access to dietitians, as well as limited availability and cost of gluten-free products. Current practices of rural-based dietitians in NSW are variable for patients with celiac disease, suggesting that evidence-based guidelines and continuing education are needed for rural-based dietitians in the specialized area of celiac disease.

A Framework for Mobile Education System for Higher Institutions in Nigeria

With the advent of cloud computing technology, the development of mobile applications for use in several facets of life has been on the increase. This has been supported by the proliferation of mobile devices in the society which is also being used in utilizing the prowess of the cloud technology. Building a mobile education system that is platform independent is a major challenge since most of the popularly used ones are either software dependent or hardware dependent. In this work, a framework for mobile education system that is cross platform in nature with regard to operating system, hardware and web browsers using the 3-tier Client/Server mobile application architecture built on web standard was developed and fully tested. A first year computer science course offered by more than 1000 students was used as input to validate the framework. An integration of Short Message Services (SMS), virtual classroom and e-assessment components enable students and lecturers to communicate, create discussion forum and carry out e-testing using their mobile devices. This work is strongly recommended for higher institutions in Nigeria that need to explore the use of mobile devices that are available with the majority of students. Only registered users can access the developed app via the use of handheld devices (smart-phones & tablets). This can actually improve learning, research and collaboration between students and lecturers thereby enhancing learning experience.
