Crude phenolic extracts of indigenous sub-Saharan fruit byproducts have potent antioxidant *** of these extracts and evaluation of their antioxidant activity and viability using appropriate biological models,has,however,not yet been *** current study quantitatively evaluated the phenolic composition and in vitro antioxidant activity of crude and purified extracts(PE)of Harpephyllum caffrum peel(HCP)and Syzygium guineense seed(SGS),and cellular antioxidant and viability efficacy of the *** were extracted by 60%ethanol(v/v)solvent system and purified using XAD7HP macroporous adsorption *** UPLC/Q-TOF-MS was used for the characterization and identification of *** antioxidant activity(CAA)assay was applied to assess the antioxidant efficacy and cytotoxicity of the *** of variance of data was done using a generalized linear mixed model with fruit type,extract purity and their interaction as fixed *** increased(P≤0.05)HCP total phenolic concentration(TPC)by over 200%,while SGS TPC decreased(P≤0.05)by 20%.Regardless of fruit type,PE had higher(P≤0.05)quantities of proanthocyanidins and anthocyanins than crude *** HCP-PE had greater(P≤0.05)in vitro antioxidant activity than the other extracts(P≤0.05).Cellular antioxidant activity of HCP-PE was comparable to that of sodium metabisulphite(P>0.05).Also,HCP-PE had lower(P≤0.05)cytotoxic effects than SGS and sodium metabisulphite with increasing antioxidant *** was concluded that HCP-PE is a potential source of safe natural antioxidants for nutraceutical applications.

Introduction: food security is one of the greatest challenges that most African countries face. It is a concept that considers not only food quantity but also food quality. The objective of this study was to describe dietary diversity and food security status at the individual level in Cameroonian populations. Methods: A total of 1180 men and women aged 20 and over and living in the West, North West, and Littoral regions of Cameroon were recruited. Data on dietary habits were collected through the frequency of consumption of various food groups. Dietary diversity was assessed using a 24-hour dietary recall. food security status was determined by combining two indicators (food consumption score and individual food diversity score). Results: The mean dietary diversity score of the population was 3.53 ± 1.44, p Conclusion: The diet diversity of adults living in the West, North West, and Littoral regions of Cameroon is medium. Although half of the study population was food secure, there is a need to implement food security policies further to reduce food insecurity among the Cameroonian population.

As a highly toxic environmental pollutant and also an important gaseous signaling compound in diverse physiological processes,the selective and sensitive detection of hydrogen sulfide (HS) is very *** this work,a novel fluorescence nanosensor was designed for rapid visual detection of HS by using CsPbBr perovskite quantum dots (QDs).The quenching mechanism of perovskite QDs for HS is Sulfide ions have a strong affinity for Pb(Ⅱ),When HS is added,sulfur ions bind Pb(Ⅱ) to form insoluble PbS precipitates and the morphological features and crystal structure of the original CsPbBr nanocrystals are destroyed.

Graphene nanopore has been extensively employed in nanoscale sensing devices due to its outstanding *** understanding of its mechanical properties at nanoscale is crucial for sensing *** this work,the mechanical proper ties of graphene nanopore are t hus investigated using the atomistic finite element met *** graphene models with different pore shapes(circle(CR),horizontal rec tangle(RH),vertical rec tangle(RV)and square(SQ))in sub-5nm size,which could be successfully fabricated experimentally,have been studied *** force normal to a pore rim is applied to mimic the impact force due to a fluid *** expected,the strength of nanoholed graphene is pore size *** pore size results in the reduction in its str *** bet ween different pore shapes with comparable sizes,the order of pore st rength is CR>RH>RV>*** addition,two different corner st rue tu res(V-like or zigzag and C-like or armchair corners)are observed,where the V-like st rue ture causes higher tensile ***,we find that the highest tensile stress is produced at the corner in all *** finding suggests the corners as an origin of pore *** results of RH and RV highlight the impact of a direction of pore orientation on mechanical *** a long side of a pore along the zigzag direction gains more tensile stress,while aligning on an armchair side causes a *** only the pore geometry and size,but also the pore orientation is crucial for defining the mechanical properties of nanopores.

Protein-based animal fibres of commercial importance are frequently exposed to elevated temperatures during processing treatments. Hydrothermal processes cause protein deterioration, impacting negatively on the value or condition of these materials. This study was designed to investigate hydrothermal damage in wool proteins at the molecular level. The effect of hydrothermal damage on Type I and II intermediate filament proteins (keratins) extracted from wool was characterised using advanced quantitative techniques based on isobaric iTRAQ labelling and mass spectrometry. Many native peptides were observed to be degraded and modified. Amongst these, twenty keratin peptides were observed to consistently degrade during hydrothermal exposure. These peptides acted as molecular markers of damage – specific indicators of the extent of heat-induced protein damage. This technology will be of value in assessing the severity of damage imparted after high temperature exposure of protein-based animal fibres such as wool and cashmere during processes such as dyeing and carbonising, or even after high temperature human hair treatments. The identification of molecular damage markers identified within wool and other materials provides a new route to sensitive and specific evaluation of the effects of protein deterioration. It is anticipated that the utilisation of such markers will facilitate the development of targeted approaches to minimising processing damage to high-value fibres and protein-based biomaterials.

A green fabrication process(organic solvent-free)of artificial scaffolds is required in tissue engineering *** this work,a series of aligned three-dimensional(3D)scaffolds are made from biodegradable waterborne polyurethane(PU)emulsion via directional freeze–drying method to ensure no organic *** optimizing the concentration of polymer in the emulsion and investigating different freezing temperatures,an aligned PUs scaffold(PU14)generated from 14wt%polymer content and processed at196C was selected based on the desired oriented porous structure(pore size of 32.569.3 lm,porosity of 92%)and balanced mechanical properties both in the horizontal direction(strength of 41.3 kPa,modulus of 72.3 kPa)and in the vertical direction(strength of 45.5 kPa,modulus of 139.3 kPa).The response of L929 cells and the regeneration of muscle tissue demonstrated that such pure material-based aligned 3D scaffold can facilitate the development of orientated cells and anisotropic tissue regeneration both in vitro and in ***,these pure material-based scaffolds with ordered architecture have great potentials in tissue engineering for biological anisotropic tissue regeneration,such as muscle,nerve,spinal cord and so on.

A method using N,O-bis（trimethylsilyl）acetamide/N-hydroxysuccinimide ester（BSA/NHS） as coupling agents for dipeptide synthesis is descried. The coupling reaction between N-hydroxysuccinimide（NHS）esters and amines could be performed under mild conditions with N,O-bis（trimethylsilyl）acetamide（BSA） as coupling reagent and no additional acid/base is required. All byproducts and excessive reactants are water soluble or hydrolysable and easy to eliminate through water-washing at the purification ***, all the reactants are inexpensive and widely used in conventional drug production.
