Purpose:This exploratory study investigates the relationship between teachers’perceptions of professional learning communities(PLCs)and their differentiated instruction(DI)practice in a Hong Kong primary education ***/Approach/Methods:Three subsidized primary schools participated in the study.A total of 121 teachers completed surveys regarding their perceptions of PLC engagement and DI ***:Using principal component analysis,three dimensions of PLC engagement were identified:student learning,reflective dialogue,and shared and supportive *** distinctive PLC engagement profiles were generated based on cluster analysis:high PLC engagement and low PLC ***’PLC engagement profiles were correlated with their DI ***/Value:The findings have implications for fostering teacher engagement in *** teacher participation in PLCs has great potential for promoting the use of DI.

Purpose-This commentary aims to echo Wilkinson,Bailey,and Maher’s(this volume)arguments about the affordances of videos and video databases in studying learning and ***/Approach/Methods-This article illustrates a multivocal approach to the videos from the Video Mosaic Collaborative(VMC).In particular,three mathematics teachers in Shanghai were invited to watch and discuss a set of VMC *** recurring themes concerning mathematics learning and teaching were identified in this video-cued interview and discussed in relation to the VMC ***-The VMC videos played a mediating and facilitating role in the interview,helping the teachers notice and reflect on the mundane,implicit culture *** upon this analysis,I argue that to tap into the potential of video in educational research,we need to see videos as more than data and look for more possibilities of using ***/Value-To open and further research dialogues,this article discusses future directions of using videos in educational research and serves as an invitation to creative explorations,in-depth conversations,ethical reflections,and cross-cultural collaborations on the use of videos in education.

Teacher Efficacy and Affective Well-Being in Hong Kong:An Examination of Their Relationships and Individual Differences

Purpose-The aim of this study is to explore the relationships between dimensions of teacher efficacy and affective well-being while focusing on the roles of demographic characteristics(gender,grade level,educational background,and seniority).Design/Approach/Methods-1,115 primary and 541 secondary school teachers in Hong Kong participated in the questionnaire survey.A series of t-tests,ANOVA,correlation analysis,and hierarchical multiple regressions were ***-The younger teachers reported lower scores for well-being and efficacy than their senior counterparts,and the female and primary school teachers reported significantly higher levels of teacher efficacy for student engagement than their respective *** the dimensions of affective well-being,pleasant affect was more closely related to teacher efficacy than negative affect,and the activated pleasant dimension of enthusiasm had the strongest *** the three dimensions of teacher efficacy,efficacy for student engagement was most strongly associated with affective ***/Value-The study revealed that teachers’affective well-being is not only important in itself,but also contributes to classroom *** enthusiasm and passion possessed and maintained by teachers could play important roles in enhancing their ***,maintaining a good affective well-being status and even a modest level of anxiety contributes to their efficacy for student engagement,a dimension on which teachers reported the least *** were put forward on how to improve teacher efficacy and well-being.

Purpose:The key to successful textbook compilation lies in incorporating children's experiences and facilitating their *** study examines the process of textbook ***/Approach/Methods:This study criticizes the traditional compiling approach of excessive lecturing and *** further elaborates the theoretical and institutional background for the traditional *** retrospective narratives,researchers reflect on how new textbook compilation tends to connect with children's ***:Researchers have explored several approaches to organizing and reconstructing children's experiences in preparing textbooks,including using"an experience"to awaken children's experiences,using the expression of experience to reconstruct children's experience,and transforming children's"experience"(jing yan,经验)into lived experiences(ti yan,体验).Another approach involves facilitating the connection and interaction between children's experiences and those of others in order to bridge personal experience and sociocultural ***,this can only be achieved by ensuring that textbooks reflect and are part of children's *** successful incorporation of children's experiences into textbook compilation lays the foundation for children to identify with textbooks and internalize textbook values.

The turn towards using domestic experience in contemporary Chinese educational studies has led to the development of theoretical frames rooted in the reality of Chinese *** article identifies four ways of understanding and reforming Chinese society that have been developed by 20th century Chinese *** reflecting on these four approaches,and on the modern value oriented reactions to social transformation expressed by contemporary Western educational scholars,this article argues that Chinese educational scholars face two essential tasks when developing theories based on domestic experience so as to make positive contributions to China's unfinished project of *** first is to study the phenomena of imbalance,alienation,and backwardness caused by all kinds of economic and cultural movements and forces in the huge space of Chinese society,and the second is to develop progressive educational ideas that are robust enough to counter these phenomena.

This study presents comparisons regarding current elementary foreign language programs in China and the *** design features a comparative analysis approach combined with deductive thematic analysis to collect,analyze,and compare relevant *** were collected from samples such as governmental documents,organizational guidelines,national statistical reports,published scholarly works,audiovisual materials,and *** the research,primary categories were identified,used to group data,and then look for similarities and *** for comparison were:(a)program types,(b)curriculum standards,(c)instructional methods,and(d)*** indicated US programs could benefit from consistency,widespread support and demand,state-to-state organization and/or alignment,equitable teaching materials,and attention to all student ***'s program,while organized,could benefit from more authentic,real-life-context,other-culture-oriented practices,flexibility,and deeper,genuine information about English-speaking countries’*** research contributes to scholarly conversations regarding comparisons of elementary foreign language teaching in China and the USA,while also supporting worldwide comparisons and exchange of ideas.
