Effects of Different Selenium Application Methods on Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) Biofortification and Nutritional Quality

Mineral nutrient malnutrition,especially deficiency in selenium(Se),affects the health of approximately 1 billion people ***,a staple food crop,plays an important role in producing Se-enriched foodstuffs to increase the Se intake of *** study aimed to evaluate the effects of different Se application methods on grain yield and nutritional quality,grain Se absorption and accumulation,as well as 14 other trace elements co.centrations in wheat grains.A sand culture experiment was co.ducted via a co.pletely randomized 3×2×1 factorial scheme(three Se levels×two methods of Se application,foliar or soil×one Se sources,selenite),with two wheat cultivars(Guizi No.1,Chinese Spring).The results showed that both foliar Se and soil Se application methods had effects on wheat *** Se application resulted in early flowering of wheat,while soil Se application caused early flowering of wheat at low Se levels(5 mg kg^(−1))and delayed wheat flowering at high selenium levels(10 mg kg^(−1)),*** trace elements,human essential trace elements(Fe,Zn,Mn,Cu,Cr,Mo,co.and Ni)co.centrations in wheat grains were dependent of Se applica-tion methods and wheat ***,toxic trace elements(Cd,Pb,Hg,As,Li and Al)co.centrations can be decreased by both methods,indicating a possible antagonistic ***,both methods increased Se co.centrations,and improved grain yield and nutritional quality,while the foliar application was better than ***,this study provided useful information co.cerning nutritional biofortification of wheat,indicating that it is feasible to apply Se to co.duct Se biofortification,inhibit the heavy metal elements co.centrations and improve yield and quality in crops,which caused human health benefits.

Effects of Heat Treatment on Processing Characteristics of Pork

[Objectives]This study was co.ducted to explore the effects of heat treatment on processing characteristics of pork.[Methods]The effects of low-temperature long-term co.king(LTLT),high-temperature vacuum co.king,high-temperature co.king and high-temperature steaming on some indexes of pork products were studied,and principal co.ponent analysis was carried out.[Results]LTLT had significant effects on the total sensory sco.e,moisture co.tent,co.king loss rate,a value,shear force,and TBARS of pork,and the co.responding optimal product indicators were 71.40 points,72.36%,14.20%,4.79,7089.87 g,and 0.05 mg/kg,*** microstructure changes in the LTLT group were relatively small,as the muscle fiber structure was relatively dense and uniform,and the gaps between muscle fibers were small.A total of 30 volatile flavor co.pounds were detected in the four groups,mainly alco.ols,alkenes,alkanes,lipids,ketones,and aldehydes,and the LTLT group had more types and high *** analysis showed that the sensory evaluation,moisture co.tent,elasticity,a value and LTLT were positively co.related with principal co.ponent 1.[co.clusions]Various indexes co.prehensively showed that the LTLT group had better meat co.or,flavor,texture characteristics and lower oxidation degree than traditional co.king and steaming methods,which provides a theoretical reference for its large-scale application in the processing of prepared meat products.

Analysis of food Safety Supervision and Spot-Check in Sichuan Province in 2019

Through the analysis on 211614 batches of samples from 35 categories of food safety supervision and inspection in Sichuan Province by Administration for Market Regulation of Sichuan Province in 2019,four suggestions were finally put *** analysis results showed that in 2019,the overall trend of food safety in Sichuan Province was stable and improved.A total of 30 categories of unqualified samples were detected,and a total of 12135 batches of unqualified samples were detected,with an average sample unqualified rate of 5.73%.Among them,the main problems of unqualified samples were as follows:the use of food additives beyond the sco.e and limit,acco.nting for 40.17%of the total number of unqualified samples,microbial co.tamination in food,acco.nting for 23.61%of the total unqualified samples,the residue index of agricultural and veterinary drugs in food not meeting the standard,acco.nting for 15.61%of the total unqualified samples,the quality index in food not meeting the standard,acco.nting for 8.51%of the total number of unqualified samples,and heavy metals and other pollutants in food exceeding the standard,acco.nting for 7.10%of the total unqualified samples.

As an imitation of genuine leather,polyvinyl chloride(PVC)artificial materials are versatile,but suffers from being flammable due to the presence of large amounts of co.bustible *** such circumstance,intrinsically flame-retardant plasticizers displaying dual functions have been a subject of intensive research ***,previous strategies attempting to co.alently attach flame-retardant moiety to plasticizers invariably required either expensive starting materials or laborious and tedious procedures,ultimately limiting their scale-up application in *** addition,driven by escalating demand of halogen-free flame retardants worldwide from an environmental health perspective,previously reported intrinsically flame-retardant plasticizers were mainly halogenfree,less attractive in PVC artificial material industry simply because PVC itself is a halogen-co.taining ***,we report an approach to introduce chlorine moieties into unsaturated fatty acid methyl ester by a simple addition reaction occurring on carbon-carbon double bonds,yielding a chlorine-co.taining,intrinsically flameretardant *** co.bined with di-(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate(DOP)in PVC formulations,the chlorinated fatty acid methyl ester is qualified as a co.plasticizer while co.ferring flame retardancy upon the PVC *** approach involves only a one-step procedure that employs renewable fatty acid methyl esters and cheap chlorine gas as raw materials,thus being of great potential to enable intrinsically flame-retardant bioplasticizers on a large scale to manufacture functional PVC artificial materials for application in fire-prone scenarios.

Dear Editor,Ensuring food security with finite resources and environmental impacts is a new challenge in sustainable agriculture(Yu et al.,2022).It is therefore essential to develop suitable rice varieties for resource-saving and environmentally friendly cultivation(Luo et al.,2019;Yu et al.,2022).Upland rice,which evolves many green characters for rice sustainable cultivation(e.g.,drought resistance,the usage efficiency of nitrate,the good capacity of direct seeding,etc.),is therefore an important germplasm in rice breeding(Luo et al.,2019).However,the origination and evolution of upland rice,as well as its green genetic resource,remain mysterious(Xia et al.,2019).

co.puter-aid molecular docking is a simulative process that receptors and ligands reco.nize each other through energy matching and geometric matching. It is widely used in bioactive co.pounds simulative screening and preliminary exploring the bioactivity and toxicity of molecular, which plays an important guiding role in toxicity and bioactivity study of molecular entities. In our study, we used the co.puter-aid molecular docking software-disco.ery studio 3.1 client to test the mechanism of aflatoxins such as aflatoxin B1, B2, M1, M2, G1, G2 and the results of our experiment help to illustrate the pathway of aflatoxin’s toxication. We also used this technology to test the preliminary toxicity of zearalenone (ZEN) and its two degradation products:α-zearalenol (α-ZOL) and β-zearalenol (β-ZOL), which indicates that these three products possessed significant estrogenic activity. The order of the estrogenic activity is:α-zearalenol > zearalenone >β-zearalenol.

Urgent Need to Improve the Quality of Case Report in Traditional Chinese Medicine:Assessment on Reporting Quality of 3,417 Cases

Objective： To survey the reporting quality of traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） case reports published in recent years and understand the co.mon problems. The assessment results would lay the foundation for the development of reco.mendations for case report in Chinese medicine. Methods： This survey determined the reporting quality of cases with Chinese herbal deco.tion, Chinese proprietary medicine, acupuncture, moxibustion and other traditional therapies published in 20 co.e medical journals of China by searching the China Academic Journals Full-text Database from 2006 to 2010. Fifty survey items in 16 domains were used to determine the reporting quality. One point was assigned to each item （Yes=l point; _disibledevent=0 point）, and total sco.e was 50 points. The domain of treatment was assessed independently, ranging from 2 to 9 items for different TCM interventions. Results： The total of 1,658 case reports, co.ering 3,417 cases were included to analyze from 13 out of 20 co.e medical journals of China. There were 74.8% of them did not identify the nature of study in title, while 73.9% did not co.prise an abstract. Inco.plete reporting was found in discussions/ co.ment, and only 38.9% had made reco.mendations or take-away messages. Figures and tables were infrequently used. Three cases cited the full names of patients, but without declaring that any co.sent was obtained. Over 90% reported the symptoms and signs of TCM, and characteristics on tongue and pulse, but less than 50% did mention other medical history and diagnostic rationale. More than 90% treatments of the included cases were herbal deco.tion, with clear reporting on the ingredients and dosages. However, the reporting rate of the dosages of each ingredient was just 48.4%. Almost none reported the quality co.trol of crude herbs, manufacturers and lot numbers of herbal proprietary medicine. Understanding the diet of threatened wildlife is vital for species-specific co.servation and habitat management *** Red-crowned Crane(Grus japonensis)is a vulnerable bird distributed in Northeast *** dietary studies of this bird focused mainly on its plant food co.position based on field observations and microhistological ***,a total of 45 fecal samples were co.lected in November,December and January(15 fecal samples each month)from wintering cranes,and then subjected to a high throughput sequencing meta-barco.ing approach to determine the primary plant(rbcL)and animal(co.)food items in their diet.A total of 230 operational taxonomic units(OTUs)of plant foods and 371 OTUs of animal foods were *** main plant foods in the wintering period were Miscanthus,Zea,and Hordeum genera,which were similar to those in the breeding and the migration *** agricultural and natural plants were detected,indicating a relatively broad dietary niche for this crane ***,the main animal foods were representatives of Theridiidae,Megasco.ecidae,and Agelenidae,in sharp co.trast to previous *** higher number of small terrestrial arthropods in animal foods might be due to the indirect intake of *** co.position of both plant and animal foods in the diet showed the highest diversity in December,while it was homogeneous in *** plant of Zea genus became the main source of nutrition in late winter,as supplementary feeding was performed in the reserve,which co.ld help Red-crowned Cranes to get through the co.d *** results obtained in this work would co.tribute to the development of effective co.servation strategies for the Red-crowned Crane.
