This article explores what kind of a role‘the rise of China’plays in negotiation and searches for common ground between Finnish and Chinese representatives in the context of Chinese investment,trade and cooperation facilitation initiatives in *** study predominantly builds on the positioning theory,and the data collection methods of this study are interviewing and *** styles of positioning regarding power and common ground are found–adjustment,use of existing common ground,autonomy,‘soft’power and pressure/hedging,the character of which corresponds to phases of Chinese five elements theory(wu xing).While data suggest that both Finnish and Chinese representatives use all these strategies,the trend is that Finnish representatives use active responses such as adjustment and pressure/hedging more,while Chinese representatives more often resort to autonomy stance.A variety of both external and internal factors influencing positioning could also be traced,such as organisational roles in situation,place of meeting,discourses about countries and considerations of‘face’.

Spectral integration and perception of Chinese back vowel /γ/

The first two formants of the back vowels of many languages, such as English, are often close in frequency within the critical 3.5-Bark distance and are phonetically equivalent to a single intermediate formant. This phenomenon is called spectral integration. The integrated spectral peak is related more directly to phonetic quality than to acoustic formants and is therefore an important cue for determining the phonetic quality of vowels. The Chinese vowel /γ/ is a back vowel, but its first two formants are commonly separated by more than the critical distance. What are the perceptual cues for this vowelDoes the spectral integration phenomenon influence its perceptionThis paper describes a series of identification experiments and rating experiments on the influences of the distance, spectral shape, and relative amplitude of the first two formants on the phonetic quality of /γ/. The results show that all stimuli with a two-peaked spectral shape are perceived as /γ/ whenever the first two formants are separated by the critical Bark distance or beyond. When the two formants are separated by roughly the critical distance, only those stimuli with sharp formants are perceived as /γ/, while stimuli with trapezoidal or single-peaked spectral shapes are not perceived as /γ/. Specifically, when the second formant is 10 dB higher than the first, the spectral integration phenomenon influences formant perception, and the stimulus is not perceived as /γ/; on the contrary, when the second formant is 0-20 dB lower than the first, the stimulus is perceived as /γ/, and spectral integration does not occur. That is to say, spectral integration occurs asymmetrically about the relative amplitudes of the first two formants. In a word, the Chinese vowel /γ/ is a back vowel, but spectral integration does not occur in the perception of its first two formants. 尽管人类对空间的认知可能具有一定的普遍性,但人类对同一空间事件的表达却因为语言的差异而千差万别。本研究旨在探讨英汉儿童如何表达基于动画的自主性运动事件。我们发现英语及汉语在空间表达上的类型学差异制约着儿童在小句层面上惯于表达的信息成分的类型及数量。汉语儿童在空间表达上的语句比同龄英语儿童的语句具有更高的信息密度,并且差异显著。这主要是因为汉语中的动词复合形式极大地促进了多重语义成分在同一小句中的同时体现。另外,英语儿童在3至5岁之间经历了空间表达方式上的重要发展,而相比之下汉语儿童的空间表达从3岁起就展现出了一些与成人的空间表达极为相似的特征。本研究揭示了语言独特性因素在语言习得中所起的重要作用。

BACKGROUND Understanding the impact of early sensory deficits on brain development is essential for understanding developmental processes and developing potential *** previous studies have looked into the impact of prenatal experiences on language development,there is a lack of research on how these experiences affect early language and brain function development in individuals with sensorineural hearing loss(SNHL).AIM To investigate SNHL effects on early brain development and connectivity in 4-month-olds vs healthy newborns and *** The research involved analyzing the functional brain networks of 65 infants,categorized into three groups:28 healthy newborns,224-month-old participants with SNHL,and 15 age-matched healthy *** resting-state functional connectivity was measured and compared between the groups using functional near-infrared spectroscopy and graph theory to assess the brain network *** Significant differences were found in resting-state functional connectivity between participants with SNHL and age-matched controls,indicating a developmental lag in brain connectivity for those with ***,SNHL participants showed better connectivity development compared to healthy newborns,with connectivity strengths of 0.13±0.04 for SNHL,0.16±0.08 for controls,and 0.098±0.04 for *** theory analysis revealed enhanced global brain network properties for the SNHL group,suggesting higher communication efficiency at 4 *** significant differences were noted in network properties between 4-month-old SNHL participants and neonates.A unique pattern of central hubs was observed in the SNHL group,with 2 hubs in the left hemisphere compared to 6 in *** 4-month-old infants with SNHL have a distinct brain network pattern with efficient long-distance information transmission but less effective local communication compared to age-matched controls.

This paper explores the communicative acts deployed in covid-19 vaccination-related pictorials circulated on digital media *** internet images were purposively sampled with a view to exploring their communicative functions as well as their generic *** data,which were culled from the websites of the World Health Organisation,centre for Disease Control,Pan American Health Organisation and Facebook,were subjected to qualitative *** study deployed van Leeuwen’s Multimodal Discourse Analysis and Yuen’s Generic Structure Potential as theoretical *** multimodal communicative acts are deployed for instructive,illustrative,informative,persuasive,inviting and advisory *** such as Lead,Emblem,Announcement and Enhancer are compulsory in the data while Display,Tag and Call-and-Visit Information are non-compulsory *** can be catalogued as:‘Lead^(Display)^Emblem^(Announcement)^(Enhancer)^(Tag)^(Call-and-Visit Information)’.The study contends that the various semiotic resources deployed in the internet-circulated covid-19 images are used not only for informative and other communicative purposes but also to evoke attitudinal change towards and encourage widespread acceptance of the covid-19 vaccines.

Rule-following paradox in Philosophical Investigations remains a hot philosophical issue through which Wittgenstein promotes its intimate association with such core concepts like language games,meaning- is- use and private *** paradoxical way of explicating meaning is echoed in Chinese traditional *** paper discusses how Wittgenstein’ s puzzle of meaning is touched upon and dissolved by Chinese traditional philosophy well expressed in Zhuangzi’ s On the Uniformity of All Things(齐物论),Sengzhao’ s Immovability of Thing(物不迁),and Gongsun Long’ s White Horse Dialogue(白马论),which all highlight determinacy in the indeterminacy of meaning.
