Hepatoerythropoietic porphyria (HEP) is an uncommon inherited cutaneo us porph yria, related to porphyria cutanea tarda, that results from severe uroporphyrino gen decarboxylase (UROD) deficiency. It is characterized clinically by the onset in early childhood of severe lesions on sun-exposed skin. We describe a man a ged 38 years with an unusually mild form of the disease that started in his earl y teens. Our data confirm that homozygosity for the F46L mutation in the UROD ge ne causes a mild form of HEP and show that this genotype may be associated with a unique urinary porphyrin excretion pattern in which pentacarboxylic porphyrin predominates.

Two new binuclear (europium and lanthanum) beta-diketone complexes Eu0.9La0.1(TTA)(3)Phen and Eu0.5La0.5(TTA)(3)Phen in which Phen is 1,10-phenanthroline, TTA is an anion of thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) were synthesized for the first time. They showed intense photoluminescence (PL) and mechanoluminescence (ML), and had their maximum PL and ML spectra peaked at 613.5 nm with half bandwidth of 10 nm respectively. Their PL and ML intensity were obviously stronger than these from Eu(TTA)(3)Phen. It is considered that binuclear (europium and lanthanum) beta-diketones complexes are promising ML and PL materials.

Compared to hyaluonan(HA)with high molecular weight,HA with low molecular weight(LMWHA)has different or diverse biological *** biological activities of HA are closely related to its molecular *** to now,the molecular weight range of LMWHA has not been defined,but generally HA with average molecular weight of 1×10 to 50×10 is considered as *** this paper,the preparation of LMWHA by degrading HA with hydrogen peroxide or hyaluronidase was studied,and the effects of degradation conditions on molecular weight also were investigated,including the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide or hyaluronidase,pH,reaction temperature and time. The results showed that the degradation of HA with hydrogen peroxide was influenced by the concentration of hydrogen peroxide,reaction temperature and *** selected degradation condition was as follows:the concentration of hydrogen peroxide was 3.0%,reacted at 50℃with pH *** LMWHA obtained by hydrogen peroxide oxidation for 7,9,11,13 and 15 h had weight average molecular weight(M)of 21.1×10,7.5×10,5.7×10,5.2×10 and 4.8×10, respectively,as analyzed by high performance gel permeation chromatography(HPGPC),and their polydispersion index(PDI)was about *** LMWHA hydrolyzed by 30 U/ml hyaluronidase at 50℃with pH 7.0 for 2,3,4,5 and 6 h had M of 9.6×10,8.3×10,7.1×10, 6.3×10 and 5.7×10,respectively,and the PDI was about ***,this two degradation methods of HA both are effective,and the degradation speed by hyaluronidase is more quick than by hydrogen *** uronie acid contents of LMWHA have no difference compared with undegraded HA.

Three new monophenanthrene compounds were isolated from an acetone extract of the tubers of Monomeria barbata Lindl. (Orchidaceae).Using spectroscopic methods,the structures of compounds 1-3 were determined as 1,4,7-trihydroxy-2-methoxy- 9,10-dihydrophenanthrene(1),1-(p-hydroxybenzoyl)-2-methoxy-4,7-dihydroxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene(2),1,3,8-tri(p-hydroxybenzyl) -4-methoxy-phenanthrene-4,7-diol(3).These compounds showed cytotoxicities on four tumor cell lines(HepG2, HL-60,Skov-3,A431).

Effects of blocking Le^Y oligosaccharide on cell surface to MMPs secreted by blastocysts and epithelial cells in mouse in vitro

In order to understand the role of Le+Y oligosaccharide antigen (Le+Y) during implantation, the relationship of Le+Y on the cell surface with matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) secreted by blastocysts and monolayer epithelial cells during implantation in the mouse %in vitro% was studied by monoclonal antibody (mAb) AH-6, directed to Le+Y[Fuc α1-2 Gal β1-4 (Fuc α1-3) GlcNAc-], and gelatin zymography. The results showed that MMPs secretion was reduced after Le+Y on the cell surface of either epithelial cells or trophoblasts was blocked. It indicated that MMPs expression which played an important function during the process of implantation were regulated by Le+Y. Therefore, it was considered that Le+Y could regulate embryos invasion by some mechanism.

Escherichia coli leucyl-tRNA synthetase (LeuRS) is one of aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) and belongs to class 1 aaRSs. The apparent steady-state kinetics of the aminoacylation reaction catalyzed by LeuRS in the presence of some RE3+ were studied. The results show that Mg2+ can be substituted by RE3+ for the aminoacylation reaction. The apparent K-m values for ATP and leucine are markedly different between native and Mg2+-free tRNA(1)(Leu). At high concentration of ATP there is inhibitory effect on Mg2+-free tRNA but not on native tRNA, which indicates that metal ions are a substrate of the aminoacylation reaction.
