Transfer-free chemical vapor deposition graphene for nitride epitaxy: challenges, current status and future outlook

Graphene, a two-dimensional material with outstanding electrical and mechanical properties, has attracted considerable attention in the field of semiconductor technologies due to its potential use as a buffer layer for the epitaxial Ⅲ-nitride growth. In recent years, significant progress has been made in the chemical vapor deposition growth of graphene on various insulating substrates for the nitride epitaxy, which offers a facile, inexpensive, and easily scalable methodology. However, certain challenges are still present in the form of producing high-quality graphene and achieving optimal interface compatibility with Ⅲ-nitride *** this review, we provide an overview of the bottlenecks associated with the transferred graphene fabrication techniques and the state-of-the-art techniques for the transfer-free graphene growth. The present contribution highlights the current progress in the transfer-free graphene growth on different insulating substrates, including sapphire, quartz, SiO_(2)/Si, and discusses the potential applications of transfer-free graphene in the Ⅲ-nitride epitaxy. Finally, it includes the prospects of the transfer-free graphene growth for the Ⅲ-nitride epitaxy and the challenges that should be overcome to realize its full potential in this field.

Suppressing the formation of amorphous surface carbon and contaminants during the preparation of graphene by chemical vapor deposition remains an ongoing ***,we analyzed how substrate characteristics affect graphene quality by simulating margin extension,the nucleation process,and defect pegging configurations on mono-crystalline oriented metal substrates with the aim of enhancing graphene *** formation energy and nucleation potential,which are indirect substrate–graphene interaction features,were found to appropriately evaluate graphene *** crystallographic orientation of the metal substrate was discovered to be critical for producing superclean graphene.A low graphene defect density and high nucleation rate on the Cu(100)facet guarantee growth of high-quality graphene,especially in terms of suppressing the formation of amorphous *** addition,rapid kink growth and self-healing on the Cu(100)facet facilitate rapid graphene synthesis,which is also promoted by rapid kink splicing and margin self-repair on this *** study provides theoretical insight useful for the synthesis of superclean graphene.

The monkeypox virus(MPXV)has triggered a current outbreak *** sequencing of MPXV and rapid tracing of genetic variants will benefit disease diagnosis and *** is a significant challenge but necessary to optimize the strategy and application of rapid full-length genome identification and to track variations of MPXV in clinical specimens with low viral loads,as it is one of the DNA viruses with the largest genome and the most AT-biased,and has a significant number of tandem *** we evaluated the performance of metagenomic and amplicon sequencing techniques,and three sequencing platforms in MPXV genome sequencing based on multiple clinical specimens of five mpox cases in Chinese *** rapidly identified the full-length genome of MPXV with the assembly of accurate tandem repeats in multiple clinical *** sequencing enables cost-effective and rapid sequencing of clinical specimens to obtain high-quality MPXV ***-generation sequencing facilitates the assembly of the terminal tandem repeat regions in the monkeypox virus genome and corrects a common misassembly in published ***,several intra-host single nucleotide variations were identified in the first imported mpox *** study offers an evaluation of various strategies aimed at identifying the complete genome of MPXV in clinical *** findings of this study will significantly enhance the surveillance of MPXV.

With the continuous advancements in electronics towards downsizing and integration,efficient thermal dissipation from chips has emerged as a critical factor affecting their lifespan and operational *** fan-less chip cooling system has two critical interfaces for thermal transport,which are the contact interface between the base and the chip dominated by thermal conduction,and the surface of the fins dominated by thermal *** different thermal transfer modes of these two critical interfaces pose different requirements for thermal management *** the study,a novel approach was proposed by developing graphene thermal transport functional material whose morphology could be intentionally designed via reformed plasmaenhanced chemical vapor deposition(PECVD)methods to meet the diverse requirements of heat transfer ***,graphene with multilevel branching structure of vertical graphene(BVG)was fabricated through the hydrogenassisted PECVD(H_(2)-PECVD)strategy,which contributed a high emissivity of~*** was deposited on the fins’surface and functioned as the radiation enhanced layer to facilitate the rapid radiation of heat from the heat sinks into the surrounding ***,the well-oriented vertical graphene(OVG)was successfully prepared through the vertical electric field-assisted PECVD process(EF-PECVD),which showed a high directional thermal conductivity of~53.5 W·m^(-1)·K^(-1).OVG was deposited on the contact interface and functioned as the thermal conduction enhanced layer,allowing for the quick transmission of heat from the chip to the heat *** this design concept,the two critical interfaces in the chip cooling system can be jointly enhanced,resulting in a remarkable cooling efficiency enhancement of~30.7%,demonstrating that this novel material possessed enormous potential for enhancing the performance of cooling ***,this research not only provided new design concepts for the cooling system

Overexpression of tonoplast Ca^(2+)-ATPase in guard cells synergistically enhances stomatal opening and drought tolerance

Stomata play a crucial role in plants by controlling water status and responding to drought ***,simultaneously improving stomatal opening and drought tolerance has proven to be a significant *** address this issue,we employed the OnGuard quantitative model,which accurately represents the mechanics and coordination of ion transporters in guard *** the guidance of OnGuard,we successfully engineered plants that overexpressed the main tonoplast Ca^(2+)-ATPase gene,ACA11,which promotes stomatal opening and enhances plant ***,these transgenic plants also exhibited improved drought tolerance due to reduced water loss through their ***,OnGuard assisted us in understanding the mechanism behind the unexpected stomatal behaviors observed in the ACA11 overexpressing *** study revealed that the overexpression of ACA11 facilitated the accumulation of Ca^(2+)in the vacuole,thereby influencing Ca^(2+)storage and leading to an enhanced Ca^(2+)elevation in response to abscisic *** regulatory cascade finely tunes stomatal responses,ultimately leading to enhanced drought *** findings underscore the importance of tonoplast Ca^(2+)-ATPase in manipulating stomatal behavior and improving drought ***,these results highlight the diverse functions of tonoplast-localized ACA11 in response to different conditions,emphasizing its potential for future applications in plant enhancement.

Arecoline causes cognitive impairment and potential addiction via disturbing Kenyon cells in bumblebee brain

Areca nut is the basic ingredient of betel quid， which is chewed by hundreds of millions of people in south-eastern Asia. Chewing of areca nut has been associated with oral cancers potentially due to its specific alkaloids， among which arecoline constitutes about 90% of total fraction. Being the world’s fourth most commonly used psychoactive substance， arecoline evokes stimulation， addiction， and other direct neurological effects， while its misuse correlates to neurotoxic effects. However， what might underlie its neurotoxic mechanisms has been poorly documented. The brain is encoded by a complex network of neuronal and glial cell types， and neurotoxicity of hazardous compounds present transcriptional heterogeneity. Recently， the eusocial bumblebee has been used as a model for studying brain effects， with sophisticated cognitive capability and precisely measured brain architecture. Here， we decipher cell-type-specific mental risks to arecoline using bumblebees. Arecoline induced locomotor hyperactivity and cognitive impairment. Single nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) unearthed arecoline-induced cell-specific responses， primarily targeted on Kenyon cells (KC). Moreover， high-dose arecoline induced distinctive cell responses among KC subtypes， particularly class I large Kenyon cell (lKC)， leading to DNA damage， excitatory/inhibitory (E/I) imbalance， and calcium dyshomeostasis， which potentially resulted in cognitive impairment. Given arecoline’s popularity and growing exposure risks to humans， neurological health risks of areca nut warrant serious consideration.

Vapor catalysis was recently found to play a crucial role in superclean graphene growth via chemical vapor decomposition(CVD).However,knowledge of vapor-phase catalysis is scarce,and several fundamental issues,including vapor compositions and their impact on graphene growth,are ***,by combining density functional theory(DFT)calculations,an ideal gas model,and a designed experiment,we found that the vapor was mainly composed of Cui clusters with tens of *** vapor pressure was estimated to be~10^(-12)-10^(-1)1 bar under normal low-pressure CVD system(LPCVD)conditions for graphene growth,and the exposed surface area of Cui clusters in the vapor was 22-269 times that of the Cu substrate surface,highlighting the importance of vapor *** calculations show Cu clusters,represented by Cu17,have strong capabilities for adsorption,dehydrogenation,and decomposition of *** exhibit an adsorption lifetime and reaction flux six orders of magnitude higher than those on the Cu surface,thus providing a sufficient supply of active C atoms for rapid graphene growth and improving the surface cleanliness of the synthesized *** experimental validation showed that increasing the amount of Cu vapor improved the as-synthesized graphene growth rate and surface *** study provides a comprehensive understanding of vapor catalysis and the fundamental basis of vapor control for superclean graphene rapid growth.

Sheep have been one of the most important groups of animals since ancient ***,the knowledge of their migration routes and genetic relationships is still poorly *** investigate sheep maternal migration histories alongside Eurasian communications routes,in this study,we obtain mitochondrial genomes(mitogenomes)from 17 sheep remains in 6 Chinese sites and 1 Uzbekistan site dated 4429–3100 years before present(BP).By obtaining the mitogenomes from the sheep(4429–3556 BP)found in the Tongtian Cave site in Xinjiang,Altai region of northwest China,our results support the emergence of haplogroup C sheep in Xinjiang as early as 4429–3556 *** combined phylogenetic analyses with extant ancient and modern sheep mitogenomes suggest that the Uzbekistan-Altai region may have been a migration hub for early sheep in eastern *** least two migration events have taken place for sheep crossing Eurasia to China,one passing by Uzbekistan and Northwest China to the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River at approximately 4000 BP and another following the Altai region to middle Inner Mongolia from 4429 BP to 2500 ***,this study provides further evidence for early sheep utilization and migration patterns in Eastern Asia.

Direct synthesis of graphene on nonmetallic substrates via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has become a frontier research realm targeting transfer-free applications of CVD ***,the stable mass production of graphene with a favorable growth rate and quality remains a grand ***,graphene glass fiber fabric (GGFF) was successfully developed through the controllable growth of graphene on non-catalytic glass fiber fabric,employing a synergistic binary-precursor CVD strategy to alleviate the dilemma between growth rate and *** binary precursors consisted of acetylene and acetone,where acetylene with high decomposition efficiency fed rapid graphene growth while oxygencontaining acetone was adopted for improving the layer uniformity and ***,the bifurcating introducing-confluent premixing (BI-CP) system was self-built for the controllable introduction of gas and liquid precursors,enabling the stable production of *** features solar absorption and infrared emission properties,based on which the self-adaptive dual-mode thermal management film was *** film can automatically switch between heating and cooling modes by spontaneously perceiving the temperature,achieving excellent thermal management performances with heating and cooling power of~501.2 and~108.6 W m-2,*** findings unlock a new strategy for the large-scale batch production of graphene materials and inspire advanced possibilities for further applications.

VT3D:a visualization toolbox for 3D transcriptomic data
