Background Schistosoma japonicum is a parasitic flatworm that causes human schistosomiasis, which is a significant cause of morbidity in China, the Philippines and *** hupensis (Gastropoda: Pomatiopsidae) is the unique intermediate host ofS. japonicum. A complete genome sequence ofO. hupensis will enable the fundamental understanding of snail biology as well as its co-evolution with theS. japonicum parasite. Assembling a high-quality reference genome ofO. hupehensis will provide data for further research on the snail biology and controlling the spread ofS. *** The draft genome was de novo assembly using the long-read sequencing technology (PacBio Sequel II) and corrected with Illumina sequencing data. Then, using Hi-C sequencing data, the genome was assembled at the chromosomal level. CAFE was used to do analysis of contraction and expansion of the gene family and CodeML module in PAML was used for positive selection analysis in protein coding *** A total length of 1.46 Gb high-qualityO. hupensis genome with 1. unique full-length chromosomes (2n = 34) of the individual including a contig N50 of 1.35 Mb and a scaffold N50 of 75.08 Mb. Additionally, 95.03% of these contig sequences were anchored in 1. chromosomes. After scanning the assembled genome, a total of 30,604 protein-coding genes were predicted. Among them, 86.67% were functionally annotated. Further phylogenetic analysis revealed thatO. hupensis was separated from a common ancestor ofPomacea canaliculata andBellamya purificata approximately 1.0 million years ago. Comparing the genome ofO. hupensis with its most recent common ancestor, it showed 266 significantly expanded and 58 significantly contracted gene families (P < 0.05). Understanding how maize(Zea mays)responds to cold stress is crucial for facilitating breeding programs of cold-tolerant *** extensive utilization of the genome-wide association study(GWAs)approach for exploring favorable natural alleles associated with maize cold tolerance,few studies have successfully identified candidate genes that contribute to maize cold *** this study,we used a diverse panel of inbred maize lines collected from different germplasm sources to perform a GWAS on var-iations in the relative injured area of maize true leaves during cold stress-a trait very closely correlated with maize cold *** identified HsF21.which encodes a B-class heat shock transcription factor(HSF)that positively regulates cold tolerance at both the seedling and germination *** varia-tions in the promoter of the cold-tolerant HSF21.ap1.allele led to increased HSF21.expression under cold stress by inhibiting binding of the basic leucine zipper bziP68 transcription factor,a negative regulator of cold *** integrating transcriptome deep sequencing,DNA affinity purification sequencing,and targeted lipidomic analysis,we revealed the function of HsF21.in regulating lipid metabolism homeo-stasis to modulate cold tolerance in *** addition,we found that HsF21.confers maize cold tolerance without incurring yield ***,this study establishes HsF21.as a key regulator that en-hances cold tolerance in maize,providing valuable genetic resources for breeding of cold-tolerant maize varieties.

Theoretical and experimental investigation on nonlinear interaction among wave groups

Wave group is important in ocean wave theory and applications. In the past, nonlinear interaction among wave groups has been studied on the basis of the nonlinear Sehrrdinger equation. Using this theoretical approach, we found that the nonlinear interaction among wave groups causes asymmetry in the shape of the wave envelope （steeper in the front of the curve of the envelope）. An important consequence of this asymmetry is that the highest wave in a wave group appears one individual wave length ahead of the center of the wave group. Further results show that the degree of envelope asymmetry increases with increasing spectral width and the wave steepness. This theoretical analysis has been supplemented by a systematic experimental study of wind waves. Laboratory and some open sea wave data were analyzed. The results show that the shape of the wind wave envelope of wind waves has the same asymmetry predicted by the theoretical approach. The observed degree of deformation of the envelope also increases with increasing spectral width and the wave steepness as predicted by theory. These conclusions have important ramifications for practical applications of ocean wave theory.

High energy consumption has seriously hindered the development of Fenton-like reactions for the removal of refractory organic pollutants in *** solve this problem,we designed a novel Fenton-like catalyst(Cu-PAN3)by coprecipitation and carbon thermal *** catalyst exhibits excellent Fenton-like catalytic activity and stability for the degradation of various pollutants with low H_(2)O_(2)*** experimental results indicate that the dual reaction centers(DRCs)are composed of Cu-N-C and Cu-O-C bridges between copper and graphene-like carbon,which form electron-poor/rich centers on the catalyst surface.H_(2)O_(2)is mainly reduced at electron-rich Cu centers to free radicals for pollutant ***,pollutants can be oxidized by donating electrons to the electron-poor C centers of the catalyst,which inhibits the ineffective decomposition of H_(2)O_(2)at the electron-poor *** therefore significantly reduces the consumption of H_(2)O_(2)and reduces energy consumption.

Influence of Indian Ocean Dipole on Tropical Cyclone Activity over Western North Pacific in Boreal Autumn

In this study, we investigated the influence of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) on the interannual variability of tropical cyclone (TC) activity over the western North Pacific (WNP) during autumn (September November) from 1.61.201.. We found the number of TCs making landfall in China to be significantly negatively correlated with the IOD index, which can be attributed to shifts in the location of TC formation together with the abnormal steering flow at 500 hPa. During negative IOD autumns, TC genesis regions move obviously westward due to the westward retreat of the WNP monsoon trough. The TC activity is remarkably enhanced near South China coastal areas, which is due to a contiguous 500-hPa subtropical ridge. In contrast, during positive IOD autumns, TC genesis positions obviously shift eastward and more TCs tend to exhibit recurvature around 1.0 E or a westward path south of 1. N led by an equatorward movement of the 500-hPa subtropical ridge with a break near 1.5 E. In our examination of large-scale circula- tion, we found a pair of equator-symmetric anticyclones in the lower troposphere resulting from variations in the large-scale Walker circulation induced by the anomalous sea surface temperature (SST) associated with a positive IOD. The resulting Philippines anti- cyclonic anomalies are closely related to the variability of the monsoon trough over the WNP region. Furthermore, the variations in the steering flow can be explained by the suppressed (enhanced) convective activities around the Philippines and the weakened (strengthened) local meridional circulation over East Asia in positive (negative) IOD years.

Dry deposition of PM_(1.) over the Yellow Sea during Asian dust events from 2001.to 2007

Dry deposition velocities and fluxes of PM1. during Asian dust events over the Yellow Sea from 2001.to 2007 were investigated using observation data in Qingdao, China and Jeju, Korea. The dry deposition velocities of PM 1. during dust events over the Yellow Sea ranged from 0.1. to 8.1. cm/sec, with an average of 3.38 cm/sec. Dry deposition fluxes of PM1. during dust events over the Yellow Sea were in the range of 68.5-2647.1.mg/（***）, with an average of 545.4 mg/（***）, which is 2-1. times higher than those reported by other studies for both dust and non-dust periods. It was estimated that 2.6× 1.^1.-48.7 × 1.^1. g dust particles deposit to the Yellow Sea during dust events through dry deposition every year. Compared with the results in previous studies, it was found that the dry deposition of PM1. over the Yellow Sea during dust events in the years with high frequency of dust could account for a large or overwhelming fraction of the annual total dry deposition. Backward air mass trajectory analysis showed that dust events influenced Jeju mainly originated from the desert regions located in Mongolia and Inner Mongolia, China. There were 1.9 backward trajectories influenced both Qingdao and Jeju during 1. dust events from 2001.to 2007, accounting for 61.3% of the total trajectories of 1.4, indicating that Qingdao and Jeju were usually on the same pathway of dust transport downwind from source areas.
