Azole selenourea disrupted the midgut and caused malformed development of Plutella xylostella

Chemical insecticides targeting the digestive system of diamondback moth(DBM),Plutella xylostella,have not been *** discovery of an insecticide with novel mode of action is a challenge for the control of *** this study,a class of selenium-and difluoromethyl-modified azoles(fluoroazole selenoureas,FASU)were designed and synthesized for the control of *** these azoles,compound B4 showed the highest insecticidal activity against *** LC50of third-and second-instar larvae reached 32.3 and 4.6μg mL^(–1),*** midgut tissue of larvae was severely disrupted,and the larval intestinal tissue was dotted with unique red spots after treatment with compound *** B4 led to disintegration of the peritrophic matrix,swelling of the midgut epithelium,fracture of the microvilli,and extensive leakage of cellular debris in the midgut *** larvae grew very slowly,and the larval duration was significantly prolonged after exposure to compound B4 at sublethal doses(LC10,LC25and LC50).Furthermore,the pupation rate,emergence rate and pupae weight were significantly *** B4 also induced abnormal pupae,causing adults to be trapped in the cocoon or failure to fly due to twisted *** results demonstrated that FASU could reduce the population of DBM in sublethal *** is the first synthetic insecticidal lead compound that has been shown to disrupt the midgut tissue of the larvae of DBM,and its mode of action totally differs from that of commercial chemical insecticides.

Dietary Fiber in Poultry Nutrition in the Light of Past, Present, and Future Research Perspective: A Review

Dietary fibers (DF) largely represent carbohydrate polymers of plant origin which are able to escape endogenous enzymatic digestion in the small intestine of non-ruminant hosts like poultry. Traditionally, DF was considered as nutrient diluent, and as an anti-nutritional factor. Dietary fibers, however, have been shown to positively influence digestive system, immune function, microbiota, and also poultry behavior. After the ban of antibiotics and antibiotic growth promoters in many countries, nutritional strategies to meet the genetic potential of poultry breeds have been extensively investigated. Furthermore, increase use of unconventional or alternative feed resources to reduce the feed cost and human food competition have made the DF topic more interesting as such products are generally rich in fiber;therefore can alter the poultry performance. Thus, to produce poultry sustainably and eco-friendly, DF has to be carefully managed in poultry which further requires sound knowledge on feed formulation, source of fiber, type, subtype, form, inclusion rate, and other managerial aspects like exogenous enzyme supplementation. To sum up, this review paper has critically analyzed the dietary fiber related issues including positive and negative sides of DF in modern day’s poultry nutrition. Finally, gaps in previous researches have been also identified and future direction has been suggested to better understand the topic considering therapeutic role of DF in poultry health.

Neutral Red Retention by Earthworm Coelomocytes: A Biomarker of Cadmium Contamination in Soil

The earthworm Metaphire posthuma were used as a model to assess the toxic potential of cadmium incorporated into the soil by environmental or human activities. The retention period of neutral red in the lysosomes of the coelomocytes was used as a biomarker. The viability of harvested coelomocytes by a non_invasive extrusion protocol was 93% with no alteration by the dye during experimentation. The control cells retained dye for 119 and 121 min in normal soil and KCl, respectively, whereas a linear decline in the retention time in the treated earthworm coelomocytes was observed. This illustrated that the presence of cadmium caused damage to the lysosomes of the coelomocytes.
