continuous processes which allow for large amount of wastewater to be treated to meet drainage standards while reducing treatment time and energy consumption are urgently needed. In this study, a dielectric barrier discharge plasma water bed system was designed and then coupled with granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption to rapidly remove acid fuchsine (AF) with high efficiency. Effects of feeding gases, treatment time and initial concentration of AF on removal efficiency were investigated. Results showed that compared to the N2 and air plasmas treatments, O2 plasma processing was most effective for AF degradation due to the strong oxidation ability of generated activated species, especially the OH radicals. The addition of GAC significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of AF in aqueous solution and shorten the required time by 50%. The effect was attributed to the ability of porous carbon to trap and concentrate the dye, increasing the time dye molecules were exposed to the plasma discharge zone, and to enhance the production of OH radicals on/in GAC to boost the degradation of dyes by plasma as well as in situ regenerate the exhausted GAC. The study offers a new opportunity for continuous effective remediation of wastewater contaminated with organic dyes using plasma technologies.

This work is aimed at exploring the clinical efficacy of continuous positive airway pressuie(CPAP)in treatment of patients with arrhythmias combined with obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).Through evaluating serum native thiol,malonaldehyde(MDA)and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase(NADPH oxidase)in these patients and describing the effects on oxidative parameters of CPAP therapy for 3 months,we confirmed the impact of oxidative stress on arrhythmias.A total of 64 patients with OSA combined with arrhythmias were collected from April 2014 to April 2017 with full clinical information.Patients were divided into two groups(paired experiment design):32 patients in group A(control group),who received unchanged anti-arrhythmia treatment and 32 patients in group B,who were subjected to unchanged pharmacological anti-arrhythmia therapy combined with CPAP.OSA related parameters were compared between the two groups after 3-month therapy.And the levels of parameters of oxidative stress in patients were measured before and after CPAP therapy.After 3 months of CPAP therapy,compared with the control group,the percentage of sage N3(NREM 3)and stage R(REM)in total sleep time was significantly increased,while apnea-hypopnea index(AHI)and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale(ESS)score were evidently decreased.Meanwhile,the lowest oxygen saturation(LSpCh)was also elevated after CPAP treatment for 3 months.The CPAP therapy significantly prevented the occurrence of arrhythmias(P<0.05).Both the MDA level and NADPH oxidase levels were significantly lower in the group B than in the group A(P<0.05).But serum native thiol was improved by CPAP treatment(P<0.05).In conclusion,proper use of CPAP therapy provides significant benefits for the treatment of arrhythmia in patients with OSA.

A kind of combinatorial material methodology,also known as continuous compositional spread method,was employed to investigate the relationship between the optical band gap and composition of SiC thin films.A wide range of SixCy thin films with different carbon contents have been successfully deposited in a single deposition by carefully arranging the sample position on the substrate holder.The films were characterized by surface profiler,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy,fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy.The carbon content y increases linearly from 0.28 to 0.72 while the sample position changed from 85 to 175 mm,the optical band gap changed between 1.27 and 1.99 eV,the maximum value corresponded to the stoichiometric SiC sample at the position of 130 mm,which has the highest Si?C bond density of 11.7×10^22 cm^-3.The C poor and C rich SixCy samples with y value less and larger than 0.5 were obtained while samples deviated from the position 130 mm,the optical band gap decreased with the Si?C bond density.

Numerical simulation of macrosegregation in billet continuous casting influenced by electromagnetic stirring

A three-dimensional numerical model coupling the macrosegregation and magnetohydrodynamic simulations was developed to investigate the effects of electromagnetic stirring(EMS)on the macrosegregation.The results show that a significant swirling flow was induced by the in-mold EMS,which further changed the shape of the solidification shell and homogenized the solute elements in mold.However,the effects were only confined to the initial billet shell.The improvement in centerline segregation was observed with the usage of the final EMS(F-EMS),which led to the forced convection at the final solidification stage.The solute elements in the mushy zone were significantly even,with the maximum segregation degree of solute C reducing from 1.311 to 1.237.In addition,the effects of the stirrer positions and currents of F-EMS on the macrosegregation alleviation were numerically studied.Different values of centerline segregation were predicted with various stirrer positions and currents,and there is an optimum stirrer parameter to obtain the best macrosegregation alleviation.In the experimental conditions,the optimum position was about 7 m away from meniscus,and the optimum current was 300 A.

1.Introduction There is a growing body of research supporting the idea that a plethora of health benefits can result from resistance training using a low volume,high-effort approach(e.g.,increased metabolic rate and bone mineral density,a reduction in blood pressure,and improved muscle quality and insulin sensitivity,among others.Further,muscular strength and muscle massprimary goals and benefits of participation in resistance trainingare independently strong predictors of longevity and quality of life. Thus,many have sought to identify how the manipulation of resistance training variables might lead to“optimal”adaptations in such outcomes,as evidenced by repeated attempts over recent decades to review the literature and provide consensus statements on this topic.5-10 One variable that is often hotly debated within resistance training is training to failure.

A wide-band continuous-beam-scanning leaky-wave antenna with a stable gain fed by spoof surface plasmon polaritons

A leaky-wave antenna(LWA)supporting wide-band and continuous-beam scanning is proposed in this paper.It is based on a spoof surface plasmon polariton(SSPP)transmission line(TL)periodically loaded with circular patches.The optimized antenna structure enables its continuous-beam scanning of 69°from backward through broadside to forward with a stable high radiation gain as the operating frequency increases from 7 GHZ to 15 GHz(with a relative bandwidth of 72.73%).Furthermore,a perfect electronic conductor(PEC)reflector is added at a distance of about 0.3λ_(0)(λ_(0) is the vacuum wavelength for the broadside radiation)to improve the antenna gain,achieving a gain increase of about 3 d B.The proposed LWA is expected to find applications in planar wireless communication systems.

Experimental continuous sludge microwave system to enhance dehydration ability and hydrogen production from anaerobic digestion of sludge

Dehydrating large amounts of sludge produced by sewage treatment plants is difficult.Microwave pretreatment can effectively and significantly improve the dewaterability and hydrogen production of sludge subjected to anaerobic digestion. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different microwave conditions on hydrogen production from anaerobic digestion and dewaterability of sludge. Based on an analysis of the electric field distribution, a spiral reactor was designed and a continuous microwave system was built to conduct intermittent and continuous experiments under different conditions. Settling Volume, Capillary Suction Time, particle size, and moisture content of the sludge were measured. The results show that sludge pretreatment in continuous experiments has equally remarkable dehydration performance as in intermittent experiments; the minimum moisture content was 77.29% in the intermittent experiment under a microwave power of 300 W and an exposure time of 60 sec, and that in the continuous experiment was 77.56% under a microwave power of 400 W and an exposure time of 60 sec.The peak measured by Differential Scanning Calorimeter appeared earliest under a microwave power of 600 W and an exposure time of 180 sec. The heat flux at the peak was 4.343 W/g, which is relatively small. This indicates that microwave pretreatment induced desirable effects. The maximum yield of hydrogen production was 7.967% under the conditions of microwave power of 500 W, exposure time of 120 sec, and water bath at 55℃. This research provides a theoretical and experimental basis for the development of a continuous microwave sludge-conditioning system.

continuous Dehydrogenation of n-Pentanol over a Cr Modified Cu/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3)Catalyst

The oxidant-free dehydrogenation of n-pentanol over copper based catalysts was investigated in this paper.The effect of metal modification on the activity and stability of the copper catalyst supported onγ-Al_(2)O_(3)and La_(2)O_(3)(Cu/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3))was clarified and a Cr modified Cu/Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3)(Cu-Cr/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3))showed the best catalytic performance.The conversion of n-pentanol was 70.0%and the selectivity for n-pentanal increased to 97.1%over Cu-Cr/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3).X-ray diffraction and temperature programmed reduction of H2 indicated that the addition of Cr favors the formation and reduction of the copper oxide,and the dispersion of the active Cu^(0) species,accounting for the good activity and stability of this catalyst.Furthermore,the lower amount of acidic sites in Cu-Cr/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3)is suggested to suppress the dehydration in oxidant-free dehydrogenation of n-pentanol,accounting for the higher selectivity for n-pentanal.

Photocatalytic degradation of the acetaminophen by nanocrystal-engineered TiO_(2)thin film in batch and continuous system

Un-biodegradable pharmaceuticals are one of the major growing threats in the wastewaters.In the current study,TiO_(2)thin film photocatalysts were designed by nanocrystal engineering and fabricated for degradation of the acetaminophen(ACE)in a photocatalytic reaction under UV light irradiation in batch and continuous systems.The photocatalyst was prepared by sputtering and then engineered by thermal treatment(annealing at 300℃(T300)and 650℃(T650)).The annealing effects on the crystallinity and photocatalytic activity of the TiO_(2)film were completely studied;it was found that annealing at higher temperatures increases the surface roughness and grain size which are favorable for photocatalytic activity due to the reduction in the recombination rate of photo-generated electron-hole pairs.For the continuous system,a flat plate reactor(FPR)was designed and manufactured.The photocatalytic performance was decreased with the increase of flow rate because the higher flow rate caused to form the thicker film of the liquid in the reactor and reduced the UV light received by photocatalyst.The reusability and durability of the samples after 6 h of photocatalytic reaction showed promising performance for the T650 sample(annealed samples in higher temperatures).
