Glucose and xylose were used as mixed carbon sources for ethanol production by a cascade immobi-lized-cell *** the first fixed-bed reactor,immobilized *** was used to metabolize the glucoseanaerobically,and in the second fixed-bed column,the immobilized Pichia stipitis was applied to metabolize xy-lose *** effect of xylose on the glucose uptake by *** and the effect of ethanol on the xylosemetabolization by *** were studied.A mathematical model taking both tbe substrate and xylose inhibitioninto consideration was suggested for the description of the two-substrate fermentation process,and a total effec-tiveness factor η_s in the model was derived to take into account the mass transfer resistances of intra-particlesand liquid *** results are in fair agreement with the experimental data.

A continuous unidirectional solidification equipment with the advantages of electric slag remelting, induction heating, continuous casting and unidirectional solidification was built to study the QAl9 4 Cu Al alloy. The results show that the electro slag induction continuous unidirectional solidification process can be used for the steady continuous unidirectional solidification of QAl9 4, and revitalizes the down pulling continuous unidirectional solidification process; that the temperature distribution in the mold wall reflects that of the molten metal in the mold, thus the temperature distribution in the mold wall can be used to control the electric slag induction continuous unidirectional solidification process; and that the mutual matching of the technological parameters is the key to stabilize the solidification process.

continuous processes which allow for large amount of wastewater to be treated to meet drainage standards while reducing treatment time and energy consumption are urgently needed. In this study, a dielectric barrier discharge plasma water bed system was designed and then coupled with granular activated carbon (GAC) adsorption to rapidly remove acid fuchsine (AF) with high efficiency. Effects of feeding gases, treatment time and initial concentration of AF on removal efficiency were investigated. Results showed that compared to the N2 and air plasmas treatments, O2 plasma processing was most effective for AF degradation due to the strong oxidation ability of generated activated species, especially the OH radicals. The addition of GAC significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of AF in aqueous solution and shorten the required time by 50%. The effect was attributed to the ability of porous carbon to trap and concentrate the dye, increasing the time dye molecules were exposed to the plasma discharge zone, and to enhance the production of OH radicals on/in GAC to boost the degradation of dyes by plasma as well as in situ regenerate the exhausted GAC. The study offers a new opportunity for continuous effective remediation of wastewater contaminated with organic dyes using plasma technologies.

Local orientation analysis was used to investigate the continuous recrystallization process in a pure Al 1.3%Mn alloy with the emphasis on the influence of matrix orientations on the subgrain growth and precipitation. Results show that the differences of (mis)orientations in deformed matrices give rise to inhomogeneous subgrain growth and precipitation with respect to precipitate density and morphologies. Moreover, no apparent high angle grain boundaries were developed by accumulation of misorientations during subgrain growth.

Using lattice-fluid model, a continuous thermodynamic framework is presented for phase-equilibrium calculations for binary solutions with a polydisperse polymer solute. A two-step process is designed to form a real polymer solution containing a solvent and a polydisperse polymer solute occupying a volume at fixed temperature and pressure. In the first step, close-packed pure components including solvent and polymers with different molar masses or different chain lengths are mixed to form a closed-packed polymer solution. In the second step, the close-packed mixture, considered to be a pseudo-pure substance is mixed with holes to form a real polymer solution with a volume dependent on temperature and pressure. Revised Freed's model developed previously is adopted for both steps. Besides pure-component parameters, a binary size parameter cr and a binary energy parameter e12 are used. They are all temperature dependent. The discrete-multicomponent approach is adopted to derive expressions for chemical potentials, spinodals and critical points. The continuous distribution function is then used in calculations of moments occurring in those expressions. Computation procedures are established for cloud-point-curve, shadow-curve, spinodal and critical-point calculations using standard distribution or arbitrary distribution on molar mass or on chain length. Illustrative examples are also presented.

A kind of combinatorial material methodology,also known as continuous compositional spread method,was employed to investigate the relationship between the optical band gap and composition of SiC thin films.A wide range of SixCy thin films with different carbon contents have been successfully deposited in a single deposition by carefully arranging the sample position on the substrate *** films were characterized by surface profiler,x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy,fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman *** carbon content y increases linearly from 0.28 to 0.72 while the sample position changed from 85 to 175 mm,the optical band gap changed between 1.27 and 1.99 eV,the maximum value corresponded to the stoichiometric SiC sample at the position of 130 mm,which has the highest Si?C bond density of 11.7×10^22 cm^-*** C poor and C rich SixCy samples with y value less and larger than 0.5 were obtained while samples deviated from the position 130 mm,the optical band gap decreased with the Si?C bond density.

The oxidant-free dehydrogenation of n-pentanol over copper based catalysts was investigated in this *** effect of metal modification on the activity and stability of the copper catalyst supported onγ-Al_(2)O_(3)and La_(2)O_(3)(Cu/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3))was clarified and a Cr modified Cu/Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3)(Cu-Cr/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3))showed the best catalytic *** conversion of n-pentanol was 70.0%and the selectivity for n-pentanal increased to 97.1%over Cu-Cr/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3).X-ray diffraction and temperature programmed reduction of H2 indicated that the addition of Cr favors the formation and reduction of the copper oxide,and the dispersion of the active Cu^(0) species,accounting for the good activity and stability of this ***,the lower amount of acidic sites in Cu-Cr/γ-Al_(2)O_(3)-La_(2)O_(3)is suggested to suppress the dehydration in oxidant-free dehydrogenation of n-pentanol,accounting for the higher selectivity for n-pentanal.

There is demand for scaling up 3D printing throughput,especially for the multi-photon 3D printing process that provides sub-micrometer structuring capabilities required in diverse *** this work,high-speed projection multiphoton printing is combined with spatiotemporal focusing for fabrication of 3D structures in a rapid,layer-by-layer,and continuous *** focusing confines printing to thin layers,thereby achieving print thicknesses on the micron and sub-micron *** projection of dynamically varying patterns with no pause between patterns,a continuous fabrication process is established.A numerical model for computing spatiotemporal focusing and imaging is also presented which is verified by optical imaging and printing *** 3D structures with smooth features are fabricated,with millimeter scale printing realized at a rate above 10−3 mm3 s−*** method is further scalable,indicating its potential to make fabrications of 3D structures with micro/nanoscale features in a practical time scale a reality.

In this paper, we report a continuous deposition method for double-sided CeO2/YSZ/Y2O3 buffer layers by reel-to-reel in a D.C. magnetron reactive sputtering system. X-ray diffraction exhibited all the samples were highly c-axis oriented and atomic force microscope observations revealed a smooth, dense and crack-free surface morphology. Out-of-plane, in-plane texture, and surface roughness of multi-buffer layers were improved under optimized deposition conditions. Full width at half maximum (FWHM) values of out-of-plane and in-plane were about 4° and 5.5° in 50 cm double-sided buffed template. YBa2Cu3O7-δ films with thickness of 1.2 μm were deposited on both sides of the buffed tape. Both sides showed similar critical current density, Jc (77 K, self field) as 0.8 MA/cm2 and 0.7 MA/cm2, respectively.

This work is aimed at exploring the clinical efficacy of continuous positive airway pressuie(CPAP)in treatment of patients with arrhythmias combined with obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).Through evaluating serum native thiol,malonaldehyde(MDA)and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate oxidase(NADPH oxidase)in these patients and describing the effects on oxidative parameters of CPAP therapy for 3 months,we confirmed the impact of oxidative stress on arrhythmias.A total of 64 patients with OSA combined with arrhythmias were collected from April 2014 to April 2017 with full clinical *** were divided into two groups(paired experiment design):32 patients in group A(control group),who received unchanged anti-arrhythmia treatment and 32 patients in group B,who were subjected to unchanged pharmacological anti-arrhythmia therapy combined with *** related parameters were compared between the two groups after 3-month *** the levels of parameters of oxidative stress in patients were measured before and after CPAP *** 3 months of CPAP therapy,compared with the control group,the percentage of sage N3(NREM 3)and stage R(REM)in total sleep time was significantly increased,while apnea-hypopnea index(AHI)and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale(ESS)score were evidently ***,the lowest oxygen saturation(LSpCh)was also elevated after CPAP treatment for 3 *** CPAP therapy significantly prevented the occurrence of arrhythmias(P<0.05).Both the MDA level and NADPH oxidase levels were significantly lower in the group B than in the group A(P<0.05).But serum native thiol was improved by CPAP treatment(P<0.05).In conclusion,proper use of CPAP therapy provides significant benefits for the treatment of arrhythmia in patients with OSA.
