The anticancer potential by breastfeeding is not fully tapped in the light of the present knowledge of the subject. Literature indicates that breastmilk has anticancer action but may underestimate its full capacity. The protective spectrum within breastmilk hints on the need for a more comprehensive understanding of it as an anticancer tool. Exclusive breastfeeding could confer protection from carcinogenesis with a greater impact than realised. A literature review was conducted using four electronic databases. Selected areas were extracted after thorough perusal of the articles. The uninitiated would take exclusive breastfeeding seriously if actively counselled as an anticancer tool. Advice on details of the breastfeeding process and holistic information on breastfeeding may endow a greater impact among the skeptics. Counselling the breastfeeding mother on information sometimes not imparted, such as on maternal nutrition, details of the process of breastfeeding, benefits of direct breastfeeding versus milk expression and her psychosocial well being may make a difference in optimising anticancer action that exists in ***, its anticancer potential provides a platform to universally improve physical and psychosocial well being of women who breastfeed. Statistics of protection by breastfeeding in some maternal and childhood cancers are evident. "Bio-geno-immunonutrition" of breastmilk may shield the mother and infant from carcinogenesis in more ways than appreciated. The molecular basis of mother-to-infant signals and their "energies" need to be researched. breastfeeding as a modifiable behaviour provides cost effective nutrition with potential for both cancer immunoprophylaxis and immunotherapy.

Effectiveness and safety of auriculotherapy for breastfeeding: a systematic review

Association of breastfeeding Duration with Body Composition in Children Aged 3–5 Years

Background There is much concern about declining rates of exclusive breastfeeding(EBF)all over the world including Saudi Arabia which deprives infants from many immunological,nutritional,and psychosocial *** study was per-formed to determine EBF prevalence and factors influencing EBF in relation to knowledge,attitude and practice(KAP)of breastfeeding mothers(BFM)in Rabigh,Western Saudi *** Data about factors that could be associated with EBF and KAP of BFM were collected by cross-sectional ques-tionnaire-based study from 420 *** Prevalence of EBF for 6 months was 27.6%which is far below World Health Organization ***,socioeconomic,biomedical as well as most studied variables of KAP of 50%to over 90%of participating mothers were adequate to account for low EBF *** knowledge about benefits of colostrum and continuation of breastfeeding for 2 years was given by only 86.2%and 36.7%of BFM,*** most significant independent factors associated with EBF were perception of sufficient human milk[adjusted odds ratio(AOR)2.89;95%confidence interval(CI)1.72-4.89],absence of nipple pain(AOR 2.77;95%CI 1.72-4.45)and mothers without university education(AOR 1.86;95%CI 1.15-3.01).Early introduction of formula in hospital after birth was the main inappropriate feeding practice in 76.2%of infants of *** Findings of this study should be utilized by Rabigh community and other national or worldwide communities with similar characters to promote EBF by targeted educational programs after identification of significant factors inltuenc-ing EBF and gaps in KAP of BFM.

Factors associated with breastfeeding duration:a prospective cohort study in Sichuan Province,China

Possible ameliorative effect of breastfeeding and the uptake of human colostrum against coeliac disease in autistic rats

AIM: To examine the possible ameliorative effect of breastfeeding and the uptake of human colostrum against coeliac disease in autistic rats. METHODS: Female rats were fed a standard diet and received a single intraperitoneal injection of 600 mg/kg sodium valproate on day 12.5 after conception. In study 1, neonatal rats were randomly subjected to blood tests to investigate autism. In study 2, the 1st group was fed by the mother after an injection of interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and administration of gliadin. The pups in the 2nd group were prevented from accessing maternal milk, injected IFN-γ, administered gliadin, and hand-fed human colostrum. The normal littermates fed by the table mothers were injected with physiological saline and served as normal controls in this ***: The protein concentration was higher in group 2 than in group 1 in the duodenum (161.6 ± 9 and 135.4 ± 7 mg/g of tissue, respectively, P < 0.01). A significant increase (P < 0.001) in body weight was detected in human colostrum-treated pups on post natal day (PND) 7 and 21 vs suckling pups in group 1. A delay in eye opening was noticed in the treated rats in group 1 on PND 13 compared with the control group and group 2. Administration of a single intraperitoneal injection of 600 mg/kg sodium valproate on day 12.5 after conception resulted in significantly reduced calcium and vitamin D levels in study 1 compared with the control groups (P < 0.001). However, human colostrum uptake inhibited increases in the level of transglutaminase antibody in autistic pups with coeliac disease. CONCLUSION: The effects of early-life nutrition and human colostrum on the functional maturation of the duodenal villi in autistic rats with coeliac disease that might limit or prevent the coeliac risk with autism.

An exploration of the breastfeeding behaviors of women aftercesarean section: A qualitative study
