A GaAs based high power distributed feedback （DFB） semiconductor laser with a second-order grating has been demonstrated. An output power of 150row at an injection current of 350mA is realized with a 1-mm cavity length. With a new design of the waveguide structure, the DFB laser maintains a stable single longitudinal mode around 106Ohm with a side mode suppression ratio of larger than 50dB.

A diode-pumped continuous-wave （CW） mode-locked Nd：YVO4/KTP green laser with semiconductor saturable absorber mirror （SESAM） is demonstrated. The maximum output power of CW mode-locked green laser is obtained to be 552 mW at the incident pump power of 7.25 W, corresponding to an opticai-optical conversion efficiency of about 7.6%. The 532-nm CW mode-locked pulse duration is estimated to be about 8.4 ps with the repetition rate of 87 MHz.

A novel and compact near-infrared （NIR） Raman system is developed using 785-nm diode laser, volumephase technology （VPT） holographic system, and NIR intensified charge-coupled device （CCD）. Signal-tonoise ratio （SNR） and resolution are improved compared with ordinary acquisition method by a specially designed optical fiber detector and the spectrograph image aberration correction with a parabolic-line fiber array. In 1-5 s, Raman spectra of different parts of Chinese human skin are acquired. Autofluorescence is subtracted from the raw spectrum by polynomial fitting and skin Raman spectrum is then smoothed for further analysis.

We report 25 Gb/s high-speed directly modulated ground-state operation of 1.3 μm In As/Ga As quantum dot(QD) lasers grown by molecular beam epitaxy. The active region of the lasers consists of eight layers of p-doped In As QDs with high uniformity and density. Ridge-waveguide lasers with a 3-μm-wide and 300-μm-long cavity show a low threshold current of 14.4 m A at 20°C and high temperature stability with a high characteristic temperature of 1208 K between 20°C and 70°C. Dynamic response measurements demonstrate that the laser has a 3 d B bandwidth of 7.7 GHz at 20°C and clearly opened eye diagrams even at high temperatures up to 75°C under a 25 Gb/s direct modulation rate.

The generation of ultraviolet （UV） light at 335.5 nm based on frequency quadrupling of a diode-end- pumped Q-switched Nd：YVO4 laser at 1342 nm was demonstrated. KTP crystal was used for generation of wavelength of 671 nm by intracavity doubling and LBO （BBO） crystal was exploited for the subsequent external fourth harmonic generation （FHG）. With 6.3-W absorbed pump power and 10-kHz frequency repetition rate, the UV output power of 35 and 63 mW were obtained by using LBO and BBO as frequency quadrupling nonlinear crystals, respectively. The experimental results show that the conversion efficiency （red-UV） of 6.4% for BBO crystal is higher than that of 3.5% for LBO crystal, but the UV beam quality obtained by LBO crystal is better than by BBO crystal.

Transitions of laser diode （LD） pumped Er^3＋-yb^3＋ co-doped glass laser are rather complicated. Considering energy transfer between Er^3＋ and Yb^3＋ ions, cross-relaxation, upconversion luminescence, and other transition processes, rate equations of quasi-three energy-level-system of the Er^3＋-yb^3＋ co-doped laser are presented. The output characteristics are also calculated and analyzed in detail. The results show that Er^3＋-yb^3＋ co-doped phosphate waveguide lasers with high slope efficiency and low threshold can be achieved.

We establish a single diode laser sensor system to obtain temperature and water concentration in CH4/air premixed ***-of-sight properties are analyzed,but line-of-sight results are not path average values for temperature *** measurements are performed on a flat burner based on scannedwavelength direct absorption spectroscopy using two adjacent water lines at 7153.75 and 7154.35 cm ***-time results are acquired using a data acquisition card with a Labview data processing *** standard uncertainties of the temperature and water concentration measurements are 2.3% and 5.1%,respectively.

To resolve the conflict of large measurement range and high accuracy in the existing real-time displacement measurement laser diode （LD） interferometers, a novel real-time displacement measurement LD interferometry is proposed and its measurement principle is analyzed. By use of a new phase demodulation algorithm and a new phase compensation algorithm of real-time phase unwrapping, the measurement accuracy is improved, and the measurement range is enlarged to a few wavelengths. In experiments, the peak-to-peak amplitude of the speaker vibration was 2361.7 nm, and the repeatability was 2.56 nm. The measurement time was less than 26 us.

We experimentally obtain the route from period doubling to chaos in an active optical fiber ring resonator （AOFRR） with optical injection. The results show that the AOFRR is sensitive to external optical injection and demonstrate various dynamic characteristics. Meanwhile, the change of the injection strength can cause the output of the AOFRR to become periodic or chaotic. It can be confirmed that all the dynamic characteristics of the system are due to the interaction of the semiconductor laser with the erbium-doped fiber amplifier （EDFA）.
