A hardware/software co-optimization approach for embedded software of MP3 decoder

In order to improve the efficiency of embedded software running on processor core, this paper proposes a hard-ware/software co-optimization approach for embedded software from the system point of view. The proposed stepwise methods aim at exploiting the structure and the resources of the processor as much as possible for software algorithm optimization. To achieve low memory usage and low frequency need for the same performance, this co-optimization approach was used to optimize embedded software of MP3 decoder based on a 16-bit fixed-point DSP core. After the optimization, the results of decoding 128 kbps, 44.1 kHz stereo MP3 on DSP evaluation platform need 45.9 MIPS and 20.4 kbytes memory space. The optimization rate achieves 65.6% for memory and 49.6% for frequency respectively compared with the results by compiler using floating-point computation. The experimental result indicates the availability of the hardware/software co-optimization approach depending on the algorithm and architecture.

A wide variety of ways to analyze the end-to-end latency emerges due to the feature of component-based *** researchers began to see that the latency is more sensitive to the data and control flows than the software ***,for an embedded software,the latency depends upon the hardware *** illuminate the feature clearly,we extend the atomic model of component-based software first.A way to specify the flows involved is further developed to identify the end-to-end *** is more,a novel methodology that bridges the gap between a constraint on latency and an execution platform is proposed for the embedded *** constructing a hierarchical architecture,it is available to consider the methodology as a decision problem where the satisfiability module theory(SMT)can be *** results demonstrate how the latency analysis conducts with the proposed model and methodology for the complex software architecture.

With the continuous development of embedded technology,embedded applications are becoming increasingly popular in daily lives,and respectively embedded software is in great demand. As a result,how to profile embedded software to guarantee its quality becomes a focus of attention. This paper focuses on this issue. It analyzes current methods of embedded software profiling and their defects,and then proposes a low-overhead and more accurate method. It also performs some strict experiments to prove that it is effective and much better than current methods.

＜正＞The development cycle of an embedded system should be shortened now. However, in order to perform rapid product development, there are various problems to be solved. Especially, in development of the embedded software which controls embedded machines, as debugging the embedded software cannot be developed until the system （hardware and mechanism） is completed, loss of time in development arises and the progress of the whole product development will be inhibited greatly. In this research, we build a virtual machine in virtual space, and create an interface between an "embedded software and virtual machine. It is considered that embedding the software embedded in the real system into a virtual machine, and working the virtual machine.

software testing plays an important role in software quality and reliability assurance, especially the ergodic and effectiveness of FPGA and other embedded software testing need further research. Aiming at tackling the coverage and effectiveness of FPGA embedded software testing, major problems in the process of FPGA software testing are analyzed, testable design and verification program based on digital simulation are brought forward. Top-Down design for testability, combined with system-level simulation and digital quantization is introduced to produce complete input and output test vectors based on systemlevel model or algorithm, the test vector and hardware description language input and output modules are compared to verify the design correction of FPGA software code module function wholly. A FPGA software testing process is established at all stages of the software development, combined with the actual situation of testing and verification.

Digital networked communications are the key to all Internet-of-things applications, but especially to smart metering systems and the smart grid. In order to ensure a safe operation of systems and the privacy of users, the transport layer security （TLS） protocol, a mature and well standardized solution for secure communications, may be used. We implemented the TLS protocol in its latest version in a way suitable for embedded and resource-constrained systems. This paper outlines the challenges and opportunities of deploying TLS in smart metering and smart grid applications and presents performance results of our TLS implementation. Our analysis shows that given an appropriate implementation and configuration, deploying TLS in constrained smart metering systems is possible with acceptable overhead.

To improve the timing related performance of the embedded software of automotive control system, a performance modeling language has been developed based on UML(Unified Modeling Language) using meta-modeling *** proposed language consists of three kinds of meta-models used to define the high-level modeling paradigms for software structure, target platform and runtime system *** modeling environment configured by the proposed language and software modules of functional model importation, components allocation, task forming and timing analysis can reuse the existing functional models, add timing requirement as well as resource constraints, and fulfill formal timing analysis at an early design *** results, the reliability of the automotive embedded control software can be improved and the development cycle and cost can also be reduced.
