Electronic market models for decision support systems on the Web

With the prevalence of the Web, most decision-makers are likely to use the Web to support their decision-making. Web-based technologies are leading a major stream of researching decision support systems (DSS). We propose a formal definition and a conceptual framework for Web-based open DSS (WODSS). The formal definition gives an overall view of WODSS, and the conceptual framework based on browser/broker/server computing mode employs the electronic market to mediate decision-makers and providers, and facilitate sharing and reusing of decision resources. We also develop an admitting model, a trading model and a competing model of electronic market in WODSS based on market theory in economics. These models reveal the key mechanisms that drive WODSS operate efficiently.

Irrigation in lowland rice production systems in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is mainly based on traditional surface irrigation methods with continuous flooding practices. This irrigation method ends up using a lot more water that would have otherwise been used to open more land and be used in other water-requiring sectors. Various studies suggest Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) as an alternative practice for water management that reduces water use without significantly affecting yield. However, this practice has not been well adopted by the farmers despite its significant benefits of reduced total water use. Improving the adoption of AWD using irrigation decision support systems (DSSs) helps the farmer on two fronts;to know “how much water to apply” and “when to irrigate”, which is very critical in maximizing productivity. This paper reviews the applicability of DSSs using AWD in lowland rice production systems in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Machine Learning(ML)-based prediction and classification systems employ data and learning algorithms to forecast target ***,improving predictive accuracy is a crucial step for informed *** the healthcare domain,data are available in the form of genetic profiles and clinical characteristics to build prediction models for complex tasks like cancer detection or *** ML algorithms,Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)are considered the most suitable framework for many classification *** network weights and the activation functions are the two crucial elements in the learning process of an *** weights affect the prediction ability and the convergence efficiency of the *** traditional settings,ANNs assign random weights to the *** research aims to develop a learning system for reliable cancer prediction by initializing more realistic weights computed using a supervised setting instead of random *** proposed learning system uses hybrid and traditional machine learning techniques such as support Vector Machine(SVM),Linear Discriminant Analysis(LDA),Random Forest(RF),k-Nearest Neighbour(kNN),and ANN to achieve better accuracy in colon and breast cancer *** system computes the confusion matrix-based metrics for traditional and proposed *** proposed framework attains the highest accuracy of 89.24 percent using the colon cancer dataset and 72.20 percent using the breast cancer dataset,which outperforms the other *** results show that the proposed learning system has higher predictive accuracies than conventional classifiers for each dataset,overcoming previous research ***,the proposed framework is of use to predict and classify cancer patients ***,this will facilitate the effective management of cancer patients.

Air traffic flow management(ATFM) is a collaborative process between the airspace provider and the airspace users. The result of the collaboration should be an outcome that maximizes the utility of the system without excessively penalizing any of the agents. This paper develops a discrete-event simulation model which consists of aggregate departure/arrival airports, flight routes, and sectors for evaluating the alternative collaborative route selection strategy. Given the different perspectives from air traffic control center(ACC) and airlines, eight performancemetrics and five alternative route selection strategies represent the past, current and proposed air traffic flow management operations that were evaluated. The Monte Carlo method combined with the Optimal Computing Budget Allocation(OCBA) simulation optimization technique is employed to assess the performance of different strategies. A case study of the upper air routes in central and southern China shows that the proposed model can be readily implemented to simulate different kinds of air traffic flow management strategies and predict the effect of changes on the airspace system. It also shows that the proposed alternative collaborative route selection strategy is an effective way in alleviating the en-route traffic congestion.

Scheduling plays an important role in many different service industries. In this paper we provide an overview of some of the more important scheduling problems that appear in the various service industries. We focus on the formulations of such problems as well as on the techniques used for solving those problems. We consider five areas of scheduling in service industries, namely （i） project scheduling, （ii） workforce scheduling, （iii） timetabling, reservations, and appointments, （iv） transportation scheduling, and （v） scheduling in entertainment. The first two areas are fairly general and have applications in many different service industries. The third, fourth and fifth areas are more related to some very specific service industries, namely the hospitality and health care industries, the transportation industries （of passengers as well as of cargo）, and the entertainment industries. In our conclusion section we discuss the similarities and the differences between the problem formulations and solution techniques used in the various different industries and we also discuss the design of the decision support systems that have been developed for scheduling in the service industries.

Precision management of agricultural systems, aiming at optimizing profitability, productivity and sustainability, comprises a set of technologies including sensors, information systems, and informed management, etc. Expert systems are expected to aid farmers in plant management or environment control, but they are mostly based on the offline and static information, deviated from the actual situation. Parallel management, achieved by virtual/artificial agricultural system, computational experiment and parallel execution, provides a generic framework of solution for online decision support. In this paper, we present the three steps toward the parallel management of plant: growth description U+0028 the crop model U+0029, prediction, and prescription. This approach can update the expert system by adding learning ability and the adaption of knowledge database according to the descriptive and predictive model. The possibilities of passing the knowledge of experienced farmers to younger generation, as well as the application to the parallel breeding of plant through such system, are discussed. © 2017 Chinese Association of Automation.

This paper proposes an efficient medium access control (MAC) protocol based on multifrequency-time division multiple access (MF-TDMA) for geostationary satellite systems deploying multiple spot-beams and onboard processing, which uses a method of random reservation access with movable boundaries to dynamically request the transrnission slots and can transmit different types of traffic. The simulation results have shown that our designed MAC protocol can achieve a high bandwidth utilization, while providing the required quality of service (QoS) for each class of service.

Due to the complexity of the deterioration process of seafood products,relying on one indicator is not adequate to determine the quality of such ***,shelf-life was estimated based on various indicators complicating the decision-making *** support systems are considered as a good *** current study aims to establish a simple and novel fuzzy model based on a combination of knowledge-and data-driven approaches to define a fuzzy quality deterioration index(FQDI)in various seafood products(rainbow trout,threadfin bream,and white shrimp samples)during cold *** volatile basic nitrogen(TVB-N)and psychrotrophic microorganisms counts(PMCs)were determined based on traditional *** sensory analysis was performed by a data-driven fuzzy ***,the shelf-life of the rainbow trout fillet was estimated to be 8 d,based on all the freshness ***,the shelf-life of the Japanese threadfin bream fillet was 5-7 d according to the microbial and chemical parameters,*** time for shrimp samples was 6-8 d using sensory score and TVB-N *** results of data-driven fuzzy approach showed all of the quality properties were considered as the'Important'-'Very Important'(defuzzification score>75).The TVB-N and PMCs were the most and weakest freshness quality properties(defuzzified-values:84.64 and 78.75,respectively).Based on FQDI,the shelf-life of the rainbow trout,Japanese threadfin bream,and shrimp samples were estimated to be 8,5,and 7 d,*** method was able to successfully provide a comprehensive deterioration index for evaluating the seafood *** a total index can be considered as a comprehensive output(y variable)to predict seafood freshness by rapid and nondestructive method.
