Gradient biomaterials are considered as preferable matrices for tissue engineering due to better simulation of native tissues.The introduction of gradient cues usually needs special equipment and complex process but is only effective to limited biomaterials.Incorporation of multiple gradients in the hydrogels remains challenges.Here,betasheet rich silk nanofibers(BSNF)were used as Building blocks to introduce multiple gradients into different hydrogel systems through the joint action of crosslinking and electric field.The blocks migrated to the anode along the electric field and gradually stagnated due to the solution-hydrogel transition of the systems,finally achieving gradient distribution of the blocks in the formed hydrogels.The gradient distribution of the blocks could be tuned easily through changing different factors such as solution viscosity,which resulted in highly tunable gradient of mechanical cues.The blocks were also aligned under the electric field,endowing orientation gradient simultaneously.Different cargos could be loaded on the blocks and form gradient cues through the same crosslinking-electric field strategy.The Building blocks could be introduced to various hydrogels such as Gelatin and NIPAM,indicating the universality.Complex niches with multiple gradient cues could be achieved through the strategy.Silk-based hydrogels with suitable mechanical gradients were fabricated to control the osteogenesis and chondrogenesis.Chondrogenic-osteogenic gradient transition was obtained,which stimulated the ectopic osteochondral tissue regeneration in vivo.The versatility and highly controllability of the strategy as well as multifunction of the Building blocks reveal the applicability in complex tissue engineering and various interfacial tissues.

Flexible pipelines are often used to connect hard pipes from a foundation to a superstructure to accommodate large deformation in the base isolation layer during an earthquake. Although Chinese seismic design guidelines suggest several confi gurations, they are diff erent from the designs that have been proven in practice, e.g., Japanese styles, and extensive experimental investigation into their seismic performance is required. Three types of seals, rubber-, metal- and asbestinebased, were tested quasi-statically with infi lled pressurized water at 2.5 MPa. The asbestine-based seal leaked at a smaller deformation than the other two types of seals. Based on the test results, three damage states were defi ned and the deformation capacity was estimated. To evaluate their performance, a three-dimensional model of a base-isolated medical Building was developed using OpenSees, with the fl exible pipelines simulated by a mechanical model calibrated from the experimental data. A probabilistic seismic demand model and the fragility function of the fl exible pipelines were then developed to evaluate the seismic performance.

Mental health interventions following disasters have been criticized as individualistic, incomplete, and culturally insensitive. This article showcases the effects of a culturally relevant and sustainable psychosocial capacityBuilding project at the epicenter of the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake. Specifically, the project focuses on women, a group that has received limited attention in post-disaster recovery in China. This qualitative research study(N = 14)sheds light on the characteristics and processes of the implementation of a post-disaster psychosocial intervention project in rural China. In addition, by adopting the Success Case Method as an evaluation approach, this study elucidates its effects on the psychological and social changes of the disaster victims. The findings capture five aspects of psychosocial changes: enriched daily life, better mood,enhanced self-confidence, increased willingness to socialize, and the provision of mutual help. This study hopes to encourage more culturally relevant and empowering practices for women in Building their psychosocial capacity after disasters.

Heating energy performance and part load ratio characteristics of boiler staging in an office Building

Commercial Buildings account for significant portions of the total Building energy in South Korea and thus a variety of research on the boiler operation related to heating energy in office Buildings has been carried out thus far. However, most of the researches have been conducted on the boiler itself, i.e., the part load ratio characteristics and the corresponding gas energy consumption patterns are not analyzed in the existing studies. In this study, the part load ratio and the operating characteristics of gas boiler have been analyzed within an office Building equipped with the conventional variable air volume system. In addition, the gas consumption among different boiler staging schemes has been comparatively analyzed. As a result, significant portions of total operating hours, heating load and energy consumption has been found to be in a part load ratio range of 0 through 40% and thus energy consumption is significantly affected by boiler efficiency at low part load conditions. This suggests that boiler operation at the part load is an important factor in commercial Buildings. In addition, utilizing sequential boiler staging scheme can save a gas usage of about 7%. For annual heating energy saving, applying the sequential control boiler with a 3:7 proportion staging is considered to be the optimal control algorithm for maximum efficiency of boilers.

Sonogashira coupling of two different diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP)-containing dihaloarenes with the same aromatic bisalkyne resulted in two new conjugated polymers with the same backbone but different pendant groups on the DPP moiety. The polymers were found to have designed chemical structures via structural characterizations in comparison with three monomers. The molecular weight measurement further demonstrated the formation of polymers with polydispersity index around 2, consistent with the polycondensation nature of the polymerization based on Sonogashira coupling. Both polymers could dissolve in many organic solvents, and the one with long alkyl side group on DPP moiety had better solubility. Photophysical investigation showed that both polymers had typical absorption/emission of conjugated polymers, and varying the solvent did not have large influence. Compared with other polar solvents, toluene reduced the quantum yield of fluorescence of the polymers, especially for the one with long alkyl pedant group, accompanying with slight red-shift in absorption/emission. The difference in the absorption/emission wavelengths between the polymers was similar to that between the corresponding monomers. Adding water into the THF solution of polymers reduced the emission intensity but no redshift was observed. Discussion about the structure-property relationships was carried out in detail.

Seismic hazard levels lower than those for design of new Buildings have been permitted for seismic evaluation and retrofi t of existing Buildings due to the relatively short remaining lifespans. The seismic hazard reduction enables costeff ective seismic evaluation and retrofi t of existing Buildings with limited structural capacity. The current study proposes seismic hazard reduction factors for Korea, one of low to moderate seismicity regions. The seismic hazard reduction factors are based on equal probabilities of non-exceedance within diff erent remaining Building lifespans. A validation procedure is proposed to investigate equality of seismic risk in terms of ductility-based limit states using seismic fragility assessment of nonlinear SDOF systems, of which retrofi t demands are determined by the displacement coeffi cient method of ASCE 41-13 for diff erent target remaining Building lifespans and corresponding reduced design earthquakes. Validation result shows that the use of seismic hazard reduction factors can be permitted in conjunction with appropriate lower bounds of the remaining Building lifespans.

In the hilly region due to scarcity of the plain area, Buildings like set back-step back are more often used and also as a big surge in the telecommunication industries, rooftop tower adaptation is very common story nowadays. In the present study an analogy has been drawn to find out the influence of the rooftop telecommunication tower on the setback-step back Building resting on ground at 20° and 30° slopes. A dynamic analysis has been performed and compared on the 4 legged angled section telecommunication tower which is located on the roof top of set back-step back Building by varying positions of tower with the existing host structure built up on ground slope of 20° and 30° in both directions(X and Y).

Background Three-dimensional(3D)Building models with unambiguous roof plane geometry parameters,roof structure units,and linked topology provide essential data for many applications related to human activities in urban environments.The task of 3D reconstruction from point clouds is still in the development phase,especially the recognition and interpretation of roof topological structures.Methods This study proposes a novel visual perception-based approach to automatically decompose and reconstruct Building point clouds into meaningful and simple parametric structures,while the associated mutual relationships between the roof plane geometry and roof structure units are expressed by a hierarchical topology tree.First,a roof plane extraction is performed by a multi-label graph cut energy optimization framework and a roof structure graph(RSG)model is then constructed to describe the roof topological geometry with common adjacency,symmetry,and convexity rules.Moreover,a progressive roof decomposition and refinement are performed,generating a hierarchical representation of the 3D roof structure models.Finally,a visual plane fitted residual or area constraint process is adopted to generate the RSG model with different levels of details.Results Two airborne laser scanning datasets with different point densities and roof styles were tested,and the performance evaluation metrics were obtained by International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing,achieving a correctness and accuracy of 97.7%and 0.29m,respectively.Conclusions The standardized assessment results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach,showing its ability to generate a variety of structural models,even with missing data.

A metal-organic framework,Ce-FDM-50,was constructed by employing gallic acid featuring both carboxylate and pyrogallate as the coordinating sites and Ce(Ⅲ).The co-assembly of the carboxylates and pyrogallates with two metal ions have achieved a new type of paddle wheel secondary Building unit.These Building units were further joined by organic struts to obtain frameworks in sql topology.This synthetic approach could be expanded to five different lanthanide metals(Nd,Eu,Gd,Tb,Yb)for the construction of a series of isoreticular MOFs based on FDM-50,and even MTV-MOFs in which mixed lanthanide metals with specific ratios were distributed.In addition,featuring the lanthanide metals as the inorganic nodes in the network,Tb-FDM-50 showed distinct luminescence properties that could be furtherly tuned for variable applications.
