Communication scheduling and Remote Estimation With Adversarial Intervention

We study a communication scheduling and remote estimation problem within a worst-case scenario that involves a strategic adversary. specially, a remote sensing system consisting of a sensor, an encoder and a decoder is configured to observe,transmit, and recover a discrete time stochastic process. At each time step, the sensor makes an observation on the state variable of the stochastic process. The sensor is constrained by the number of transmissions over the time horizon, and thus it needs to decide whether to transmit its observation or not after making each measurement. If the sensor decides to transmit,it sends the observation to the encoder, who then encodes and transmits the observation to the decoder. Otherwise, the sensor and the encoder maintain silence. The decoder is required to generate a real-time estimate on the state variable. The sensor,the encoder, and the decoder collaborate to minimize the sum of the communication cost for the sensor, the encoding cost for the encoder, and the estimation error for the decoder. There is also a jammer interfering with the communication between the encoder and the decoder, by injecting an additive channel noise to the communication channel. The jammer is charged for the jamming power and is rewarded for the estimation error generated by the decoder, and it aims to minimize its net cost. We consider a feedback stackelberg game with the sensor, the encoder, and the decoder as the composite leader, and the jammer as the follower. under some technical assumptions, we obtain a feedback stackelberg solution, which is threshold based for the scheduler,and piecewise affine for the encoder and the decoder. We also generate numerical results to demonstrate the performance of the remote sensing system under the feedback stackelberg solution.

A Numerical Approach to Optimal Dividend Policies with Capital Injections and Transaction Costs

This work focuses on numerical methods for finding optimal dividend payment and capital injection policies to maximize the present value of the difference between the cumulative dividend payment and the possible capital injections. using dynamic programming principle, the value function obeys a quasi-variational inequality （QVI）. The state constraint of the impulsive control gives rise to a capital injection region with free boundary. since the closed-form solutions are virtually impossible to obtain, we use Markov chain approximation techniques to construct a discrete-time controlled Markov chain to approximate the value function and optimal controls. Convergence of the approximation algorithms is proved.

Meta-Path-Based search and Mining in Heterogeneous Information Networks

Information networks that can be extracted from many domains are widely studied recently. Different functions for mining these networks are proposed and developed, such as ranking, community detection, and link prediction. Most existing network studies are on homogeneous networks, where nodes and links are assumed from one single type. In reality, however, heterogeneous information networks can better model the real-world systems, which are typically semi-structured and typed, following a network schema. In order to mine these heterogeneous information networks directly, we propose to explore the meta structure of the information network, i.e., the network schema. The concepts of meta-paths are proposed to systematically capture numerous semantic relationships across multiple types of objects, which are defined as a path over the graph of network schema. Meta-paths can provide guidance for search and mining of the network and help analyze and understand the semantic meaning of the objects and relations in the network. under this framework, similarity search and other mining tasks such as relationship prediction and clustering can be addressed by systematic exploration of the network meta structure. Moreover, with user＇s guidance or feedback, we can select the best meta-path or their weighted combination for a specific mining task.

Ni_xWO_(2.72) nanorods as an efficient electrocatalyst for oxygen evolution reaction

Ni_xWO_(2.72) nanorods(NRs) are synthesized by a one-pot reaction of Ni(acac)_2 and WCl_4. In the rod structure, Ni(Ⅱ) intercalates in the defective perovskite-type WO_(2.72) and is stabilized. The Ni_xWO_(2.72) NRs show the x-dependent electrocatalysis for the oxygen evolution reaction(OER) in 0.1 M KOH with Ni_(0.78)WO_(2.72) being the most efficient, even outperforming the commercial Ir-catalyst. The synthesis is not limited to Ni_xWO_(2.72) but can be extended to M_xWO_(2.72)(M = Co, Fe) as well,providing a new class of oxide-based catalysts for efficient OER and other energy conversion reactions.

Theoretical potential for low energy consumption phase change memory utilizing electrostatically-induced structural phase transitions in 2D materials

structural phase-change materials are of great importance for applications in information storage *** driven structural phase transitions are employed in phase-change memory to achieve lower programming voltages and potentially lower energy consumption than mainstream nonvolatile memory ***,the waste heat generated by such thermal mechanisms is often not optimized,and could present a limiting factor to widespread *** potential for electrostatically driven structural phase transitions has recently been predicted and subsequently reported in some two-dimensional materials,providing an athermal mechanism to dynamically control properties of these materials in a nonvolatile fashion while achieving potentially lower energy *** this work,we employ DFT-based calculations to make theoretical comparisons of the energy required to drive electrostatically-induced and thermally-induced phase *** theoretical limits in monolayer MoTe2 and thin films of Ge_(2)sb_(2)Te_(5),we find that the energy consumption per unit volume of the electrostatically driven phase transition in monolayer MoTe2 at room temperature is 9% of the adiabatic lower limit of the thermally driven phase transition in Ge_(2)sb_(2)Te_(5).Furthermore,experimentally reported phase change energy consumption of Ge_(2)sb_(2)Te_(5) is 100–10,000 times larger than the adiabatic lower limit due to waste heat flow out of the material,leaving the possibility for energy consumption in monolayer MoTe2-based devices to be orders of magnitude smaller than Ge_(2)sb_(2)Te_(5)-based devices.

Background:Bone stress injuries(BsIs)are common in female runners,and recurrent BsI rates are *** work suggests an association between higher impact loading during running and tibial ***,it is unknown whether impact loading and fatigue-related loading changes discriminate women with a history of multiple *** study compared impact variables at the beginning of a treadmill run to exertion andthe changes in those variables with exertion among female runners with no history of BsI as well as among those with a history of single or multiple ***:We enrolled 45 female runners(aged 18-40 years)for this cross-sectional study:having no history of diagnosed lower extremity BsI(N-BsI,n=14);a history of 1 lower extremity BsI(1-BsI,n=16);and diagnosed by imaging,or a history of multiple(>3)lower extremity BsIs(M-BsI,n=15).participants completed a 5-km race speed run on an instrumented treadmill while wearing an Inertial Measurement *** vertical average loading rate(VALR),vertical instantaneous loading rate(VILR),vertical stiffness during impact via instrumented treadmill,and tibial shock determined as the peak po sitive tibial acceleration via Inertial Measurement unit were measured at the beginning and the end of the ***:There were no differences between groups in VALR,VILR,vertical stiffness,or tibial shock in a fresh or exerted ***,compared to N-BsI,women with M-BsI had greater increase with exertion in VALR(-1.8%vs.6.1%,p=0.01)and VILR(1.5%vs.4.8%,p=0.03).similarly,compared to N-BsI,vertical stiffness increased more with exertion among women with M-BsI(-0.9%vs.7.3%,p=0.006)and 1-BsI(-0.9%vs.1.8%,p=0.05).Finally,compared to N-BsI,the increase in tibial shock from fresh to exerted condition was greater among women with M-BsI(0.9%vs.5.5%,p=0.03)and 1-BsI(0.9%vs.11.2%,p=0.02).Conclusion:Women with 1-BsI or M-BsIs experience greater exertion-related increases in impact loading than women with *** observations impl
