Clinical characteristics and prognosis of community-acquired pneumonia in autoimmune disease-induced

BACKGROUND:Community-acquired pneumonia(CAP)in autoimmune diseases(AID)-induced immunocompromised host(ICH)had a high incidence and poor ***,only a few studies had determined the clinical characteristics of these *** study was to explore the characteristics and predictors of mortality in CAP patients accompanied with AID-induced ***:From 2013 to 2018,a total of 94 CAP patients accompanied with AID-induced ICH,admitted to Emergency Department of zhongshan Hospital,Fudan University,were enrolled in this *** data and the risk regression estimates of repeated predictors were evaluated by generalized estimating equations(GEEs)*** open-cohort approach was used to classify patient's outcomes into the survival or non-survival ***:The hospital mortality of patients with CAP occurring in AID-induced ICH was 60.64%.No significant differences were found with respect to clinical symptoms and lung images between survival and non-survival groups,while renal insufficiency and dysfunction of coagulation had higher proportions in non-survival patients(P<0.05).Both noninvasive ventilation(NIV)and invasive mechanical ventilation(IMV)were performed more frequently in non-survival group(P<0.05).By the multivariate GEEs analysis,the repeated measured longitudinal indices of neutrophilto-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)(odds ratio[OR]=1.055,95%confidence interval[95%CI]1.025–1.086),lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)(OR=1.004,95%CI 1.002–1.006)and serum creatinine(s Cr)(OR=1.018,95%CI 1.008–1.028),were associated with a higher risk of ***:The CAP patients in AID-induced ICH had a high mortality.A significant relationship was demonstrated between the factors of NLR,LDH,s Cr and mortality risk in these patients.

Muscle necrosis and angiogenesis are two major challenges in the treatment of lower-limb ischemic *** this study,a triple-functional Sr/Si-containing bioceramic/alginate composite hydrogel with simultaneous bioactivity in enhancing angiogenesis,regulating inflammation,and inhibiting muscle necrosis was designed to treat lower-limb ischemic *** particular,sodium alginate,calcium silicate and strontium carbonate were used to prepare injectable hydrogels,which was gelled within 10 *** importantly,this composite hydrogel sustainedly releases bioactive Sr^(2+)and SiO_(3)^(2-) ions within 28 *** biological activity of the bioactive ions released from the hydrogels was verified on HUVECs,SMCs,C2C12 and Raw 264.7 cells in vitro,and the therapeutic effect of the hydrogel was confirmed using C57BL/6 mouse model of femoral artery ligation in *** results showed that the composite hydrogel stimulated angiogenesis,developed new collateral capillaries,and re-established the blood *** addition,the bioactive hydrogel directly promoted the expression of muscle-regulating factors(MyoG and MyoD)to protect skeletal muscle from necrosis,inhibited M1 polarization,and promoted M2 polarization of macrophages to reduce inflammation,thereby protecting skeletal muscle cells and indirectly promoting *** results indicate that these bioceramic/alginate composite bioactive hydrogels are effective biomaterials for treating hindlimb ischemia and suggest that biomaterial-based approaches may have remarkable potential in treating ischemic diseases.

Redox-responsive ferrocene-containing poly(ionic liquid)s for antibacterial applications

Ferrocene(Fc)-containing imidazolium type ionic liquids(ILs) and corresponding poly(ionic liquid)(PIL) membranes with tunable antibacterial activity based on electrochemical redox reaction and host-guest chemistry were developed. The effect of Fc moiety on the antimicrobial activities against both Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) and Escherichia coli(E. coli) was studied by minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC). The presence of Fc groups highly enhanced the antibacterial efficiency of Fccontaining ILs because of the generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS). The electrochemical oxidation of Fc to Fc+and the formation of inclusion complexes between Fc and β-CD via host-guest interactions decreased the antibacterial activities of ILs and PIL membranes. The antibacterial activities may be recovered in some extent upon the electrochemical reduction of Fc+to Fc or the exclusion of the Fc out of the cavity of β-CD. Furthermore, all the Fc-containing PIL membranes showed relatively low hemolysis activities and none cytotoxicity toward human cells, indicating clinical feasibility in topical applications.

Inflammatory/immune-suppressive microenvironment characteristics of pancreatic cancer patients with Shi-Re syndrome identified by extracellular vesicle long RNA profiling

Multiparametric ultrasound for the assessment of testicular lesions with negative tumoral markers

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic performance of multiparametric ultrasound(mpUS;grayscale US,color Doppler US,strain elastography,and contrast-enhanced US)in the assessment of testicular lesions with negative tumoral *** imaging data,patient age,serum tumor markers,scrotal pain,cryptorchidism,and related clinical information were retrospectively collected for patients who underwent mpUS examination between January 2013 and December *** results or follow-up examinations were used as the reference *** total,83 lesions from 79 patients were included in the ***-six patients were finally diagnosed with benign tumors,and 23 patients were ultimately diagnosed with malignant ***-square tests or Fisher's exact tests were used to assess the difference between the two *** multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that lesion diameter(odds ratio[OR]=1.072,P=0.005),vascularization on color Doppler US(OR=4.066,P=0.001),and hyperenhancement during the early phase(OR=6.465,P=0.047)were significant independent risk factors for malignancy;however,when compared with neoplastic lesions,pain(OR=0.136,P<0.001),absence of vascularization on color Doppler US(OR=1.680,P=0.042),and nonenhancement during the late phase(OR=3.461,P=0.031)were strongly associated with nonneoplastic *** features are useful for differentiating testicular lesions with negative tumoral markers and improving the preoperative diagnosis,which may avoid inappropriate radical orchiectomy.

Intervertebral disc herniation(IVDH)is a common manifestation of intervertebral disc degeneration(IVDD)characterized by inflammation that results in the rupture of the annulus fibrosus(AF)and her-niation of the nucleus pulposus(NP).While current clinical research primarily focuses on regulating the degenerative NP,the crucial role of the AF in maintaining the mechanical stability and metabolic balance of the intervertebral disc(IVD)has been *** immunoregulation and AF repair is im-perative to effectively prevent recurrent ***,this study introduces a bioactive sealant(OD/GM/QCS-sEVs),which combines gelatin methacryloyl(GM)and oxidized dextran(OD)with quater-nized chitosan(QCS)and incorporates small extracellular vesicles(sEVs).The developed sealant possesses injectability,self-healing capabilities,tissue adhesiveness,and mechanical stability,with an average ad-hesive strength of 109.63 *** vitro experiments demonstrate that OD/GM/QCS-sEVs effectively seal AF defects while preserving mechanical properties comparable to those of a normal ***,the sealant releases sEVs through a pH-responsive mechanism,thereby modulating macrophage polarization to the M2 phenotype via the NF-κB signaling *** mechanism facilitates immunoregulation and anti-inflammatory effects,and promotes stem cell differentiation into *** experiments confirm the ability of OD/GM/QCS-sEVs to seal defects,prevent proteoglycan loss,inhibit IVDD develop-ment,and promote AF ***,OD/GM/QCS-sEVs hold promise as an innovative bioactive sealant for recurrent herniation by resolving immunoregulation and AF regeneration.

Effects of multiple interruptions with trimethylindium-treatment in the InGaN/GaN quantum well on green light emitting diodes

In this study, the influence of multiple interruptions with trimethylindium(TMIn)-treatment in InGaN/GaN multiple quantum wells(MQWs) on green light-emitting diode(LED) is investigated. A comparison of conventional LEDs with the one fabricated with our method shows that the latter has better optical properties. Photoluminescence(PL) full-width at half maximum(FWHM) is reduced, light output power is much higher and the blue shift of electroluminescence(EL) dominant wavelength becomes smaller with current increasing. These improvements should be attributed to the reduced interface roughness of MQW and more uniformity of indium distribution in MQWs by the interruptions with TMIn-treatment.
