Several studies have shown that fibroblast growth factor-2 （FGF2） can directly affect axon regeneration after peripheral nerve damage. In this study, we performed sensory tests and histological analyses to study the effect of recombinant human FGF-2 （rhFGF2） treatment on damaged mental nerves. The mental nerves of 6-week-old male Sprague-dawley rats were crush-injured for 1 minute and then treated with 10 or 50 μg/mL rhFGF2 or PBS in crush injury area with a mini Osmotic pump. Sensory test using von Frey filaments at 1 week revealed the presence of sensory degeneration based on decreased gap score and increased difference score. However, at 2 weeks, the gap score and difference score were significantly rebounded in the mental nerve crush group treated with 10 μg/mL rhFGF2. Interestingly, treatment with 10 μg/mL rhFGF had a more obviously positive effect on the gap score than treatment with 50 μg/mL rhFGF2. In addition, retrograde neuronal tracing with dil revealed a significant increase in nerve regeneration in the trigeminal ganglion at 2 and 4 weeks in the rhFGF2 groups （10 μg/mL and 50 μg/mL） than in the PBS group. The 10 μg/mL rhFGF2 group also showed an obviously robust regeneration in axon density in the mental nerve at 4 weeks. Our results demonstrate that 10 μg/mL rhFGF induces mental nerve regeneration and sensory recovery after mental nerve crush injury.

In this paper, we investigate the problem of H∞ synchronization for chaotic neural networks with time-varying delays. A new model of the networks with disturbances in both master and slave systems is presented. By constructing a suitable Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional and using a reciprocally convex approach, a novel H∞ synchronization criterion for the networks concerned is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs） which can be easily solved by various effective optimization algorithms. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection is an effective treatment modality for early gastric cancer(EGC), though the submucosal fibrosis found in ulcerative EGC is an obstacle for successful treatment. This report presents two cases of ulcerative EGC in two males, 73- and 80-year-old, with severe fibrosis. As endoscopic ultrasonography suggested that the EGCs had invaded the submucosal layer, the endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection salvage technique was utilized for complete resection of the lesions. Although surgical gastrectomy was originally scheduled, the two patients had severe coronary heart disease, and surgeries were refused because of the risks associated with their heart conditions. The endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection salvage technique procedures described in these cases were performed under conscious sedation, and were completed within 30 min. The complete en bloc resection of EGC using endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection salvage technique was possible with a free resection margin, and no other complications were noted during the procedure. This is the first known report concerning the use of the endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection salvage technique salvage technique for treatment of ulcerative EGC. We demonstrate that endoscopic submucosal tunnel dissection salvage technique it is a feasible method showing several advantages over endoscopic submucosal dissection for cases of EGC with fibrosis.

Cell death has been extensively evaluated for decades and it is well recognized that pharmacological interventions directed to inhibit cell death can prevent significant cell loss and can thus improve an organ’s physiological function. For long, only apoptosis was considered as a sole form of programmed cell death. recently necroptosis, a rIP1/rIP3-dependent programmed cell death, has been identified as an apoptotic backup cell death mechanism with necrotic morphology. The evidences of necroptosis and protective effects achieved by blocking necroptosis have been extensively reported in recent past. However, only a few studies reported the evidence of necroptosis and protective effects achieved by inhibiting necroptosis in liver related disease conditions. Although the number of necroptosis initiators is increasing; however, interestingly, it is still unclear that what actually triggers necroptosis in different liver diseases or if there is always a different necroptosis initiator in each specific disease condition followed by specific downstream signaling molecules. Understanding the precise mechanism of necroptosis as well as counteracting other cell death pathways in liver diseases could provide a useful insight towards achieving extensive therapeutic significance. By targeting necroptosis and/or other parallel death pathways, a significant cell loss and thus a decrement in an organ’s physiological function can be prevented.

By con- structing a suitable Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and using the reciprocally convex approach, new delay-dependent consensus criteria for the systems are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities （LMIs）, which can be easily solved by using various effective optimization algorithms. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methods.

Previous research has demonstrated that cotransplantation of umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells （UCMSCs） and Schwann cells （SCs） can repair spinal nerve injury, but few studies have investigated their use in peripheral nerve regeneration. In the present study, we cotransplanted UCMSCs and SCs to repair 5-mm left sciatic nerve defects in rats, and compared the effects of UCMSCs ＋ SCs transplantation with UCMSCs or SCs transplantation alone. After UCMSCs ＋ SCs transplantation, nerve conduction velocity of the left sciatic nerve and gait were both improved. retrograde tracing analysis demonstrated that the mean count of fluorogold-labeled neurons, as well as the mean axon count and axon density, were significantly greater in the left sciatic nerve after UCMSCs ＋ SCs transplantation, compared with UCMSCs or SCs transplantation alone. Improvements in conduction velocity and increased sheath thickness in the left sciatic nerve were similar after UCMSCs transplantation and UCMSCs ＋ SCs transplantation. These findings suggest that UCMSCs transplantation can promote the repair of sciatic nerve defects to some extent, but that combined UCMSCs ＋ SCs transplantation has a significantly greater regenerative effect.
