This study sought to provide an up-to-date review of the importance of anatomy to human identification,focusing on the usefulness of anatomical knowledge about the head and neck bones and teeth to sex estimation in routine forensic anthropology methods.A detailed search of osteology applications in forensic sex estimation was conducted through the electronic databases for the 10 years prior to July *** articles and classic literature on the subject were gathered and outlined in this *** the available literature,several metric analyses showed accuracy superior to 80%in sexual *** measured from the inclination of glabellae and analysis of the external frontal bone surface through three-dimensional computer-aided design emerge as reliable cranial indexes for sex *** the mandible,the condylar and coronoid height,bigonial width,and condylion-gonion distance express significant sexual *** of the canine are the best option for sex estimation using teeth,as well as the thickness of the dentine or enamel of *** axis vertebra surpasses other neck bones for sex estimation due to its atypical shape and the presence of the odontoid *** analyses based on anatomy can provide reliable accuracy in sexual *** training and anatomical knowledge can reduce bias and interobserver differences,and the use of three-dimensional models and computed tomography images can enhance the accuracy of these methods for sex ***,every method should be validated before being applied to a different population.

In this work,the impact of the doping process on the photoluminescence emission of CaWO_(4) as a function of the concentration of eu^(3+) cation(0.01 mol%,0.02 mol%,0.04 mol%,0.06 mol%,0.08 mol%,and 0.10 mol%) is discussed in ***_(1-x)WO~4:xeu^(3+) samples were successfully synthesized by a simple coprecipitation method followed by microwave *** blue shift in the absorption edge confirms the quantum confinement effect and the band gap energy covers the range from 3.91 to 4.18 eV,as the amount of eu^(3+) cations *** experimental results are sustained by first-principles calculations,at the density functional theory level,to decipher the geometry and electronic properties,thereby enabling a more accurate and direct comparison between theory and experiment for the Ca_(1-x)WO_(4):xeu^(3+) structure.

Mammals can show conspicuous behavioral responses to thermal variation,including changes in movement *** used an integrative approach to understand how environmental temperature can drive the movement behavior of a mammal with low capacity for physiological thermoregulation,the giant anteater(Myrmecophaga tridactyla).We tracked 52 giant anteaters in 7 areas throughout the Brazilian *** estimated the distance moved,area used,use of forest areas,and mean environmental temperature for each monitoring day of each *** modeled these data with Mixed Structural equations—considering the possible interactions between our variables and controlling for sex and body *** anteaters reduced displacement and increased forest use with decreasing environmental temperature,probably because of their low body heat *** is possible that they reduce distance moved and area used by reducing the duration of *** decreasing temperature,forest habitats become warmer than open ones,besides buffer rain and chilly *** displacement and using forests are important strategies to reduce body heat loss and the energetic costs of ***,decreasing movement can limit food access and,consequently,***,we highlight the importance of forests as thermal *** increasing frequency and intensity of extreme weather events,we showed the need to preserve forest patches to offer suitable conditions for tropical mammals’behavioral *** this context,policies favoring deforestation on Brazilian territory are especially ***,we emphasize the need of integrative approaches to understand the complex interactions between organisms and the environment.

The coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)outbreak has drawn the scientific community's attention to pre-existing metabolic conditions that could aggravate the infection,causing extended viral shedding,prolonged hospitalization,and high death *** dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)emerges as a surrogate for COVID-19 severity due to the constellation of metabolic alterations it *** review outlines the impact MAFLD exerts on COVID-19 severity in obese subjects,besides the possible mechanistic links to the poor *** data collected showed that MAFLD patients had poorer COVID-19 outcomes than non-MAFLD obese *** is generally accompanied by impaired glycemic control and systemic arterial hypertension,both of which can decompensate during the COVID-19 clinical ***,MAFLD subjects had higher plasma inflammatory marker concentrations than non-MAFLD subjects,which might be related to an intensified cytokine storm syndrome frequently associated with the need for mechanical ventilation and *** conclusion,MAFLD represents a higher risk than obesity for COVID-19 severity,resulting in poor outcomes and even progression to non-alcoholic *** should include MAFLD subjects in the high-risk group,intensify preventive measurements,and prioritize their vaccination.

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease disseminated through the centuries in the whole world which causes symptoms that go from self-limited diseases to hemorrhagic manifestations and organ failure, including acute kidney injury(AKI), composing the severe disease known as the Weil's syndrome. Mortality rates varies according to the clinical presentation and usually increases when kidney injury is present, and is even higher in the setting of pulmonary hemorrhage. There are recent advances in the search for novel biomarkers of renal involvement and early detection of AKI in leptospirosis, as well as in its pathophysiology. We review in this article the clinical aspects of leptospirosis-associated AKI and the perspectives for future research.
