In the presence of a catalytic amount of cesium hydroxide, the corresponding S-aryl phosphorothioates can he obtained by the reactions of dialkyl phosphites with diaryldisulfides in excellent yields at room temperature, using DMSO as a solvent. The reaction mechanism was discussed. The method provides a new and expedient path for the preparation of $-aryl phosphorothioates.

Natural swarms arranged from cells to herds are usually decentralized but display intriguing collective intelligence in coordinating individuals across large scales to efficiently achieve their common goals. Learning from nature may provide new strategies for controlling collective dynamics of synthetic swarms to accomplish specific functions. Here, we present a bioinspired computational framework that steers distributed active swarms to collectively capture and merge targets via reinforcement learning. We exploit collective milling structures of natural herds to cage the targets, and adopt a switching control policy inspired by sperms' chiral dynamics to optimize the trajectories of individuals, through which the active swarms can selforganize to enclose single or multiple distant targets in a dynamical, adaptive and scalable manner. There exists a critical swarm size, beyond which the excessive competition between agents would generate large mechanical forces, leading to capture instability but enabling the transition from short-distance to long-distance merging capture of multiple targets. This work provides physical insights into distributed active swarms and could offer a multilevel, decentralized strategy toward controlling swarm robotics in wide applications such as bio-medical devices, machine immunity, and target clearance.

Infiltration by monocytes of the central nervous system and its role in multiple sclerosis: reflections on therapeutic strategies

Mononuclear macrophage infiltration in the central nervous system is a prominent feature of neuroinflammation. Recent studies on the pathogenesis and progression of multiple sclerosis have highlighted the multiple roles of mononuclear macrophages in the neuroinflammatory process. Monocytes play a significant role in neuroinflammation, and managing neuroinflammation by manipulating peripheral monocytes stands out as an effective strategy for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, leading to improved patient outcomes. This review outlines the steps involved in the entry of myeloid monocytes into the central nervous system that are targets for effective intervention: the activation of bone marrow hematopoiesis, migration of monocytes in the blood, and penetration of the blood–brain barrier by monocytes. Finally, we summarize the different monocyte subpopulations and their effects on the central nervous system based on phenotypic differences. As activated microglia resemble monocyte-derived macrophages, it is important to accurately identify the role of monocyte-derived macrophages in disease. Depending on the roles played by monocyte-derived macrophages at different stages of the disease, several of these processes can be interrupted to limit neuroinflammation and improve patient prognosis. Here, we discuss possible strategies to target monocytes in neurological diseases, focusing on three key aspects of monocyte infiltration into the central nervous system, to provide new ideas for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

Precipitation comes in various phases, including rainfall, snowfall, sleet, and hail. Shifts of precipitation phases, as well as changes in precipitation amount, intensity, and frequency, have significant impacts on regional climate, hydrology,ecology, and the energy balance of the land-atmosphere system. Over the past century, certain progress has been achieved in aspects such as the observation, discrimination, transformation, and impact of precipitation phases. Mainly including:since the1980s, studies on the observation, formation mechanism, and prediction of precipitation phases have gradually received greater attention and reached a certain scale. The estimation of different precipitation phases using new detection theories and methods has become a research focus. Avariety of discrimination methods or schemes, such as the potential thickness threshold method of the air layer, the temperature threshold method of the characteristic layer, and the near-surface air temperature threshold method,have emerged one after another. Meanwhile, comparative studies on the discrimination accuracy and applicability assessment of multiple methods or schemes have also been carried out simultaneously. In recent years, the shift of precipitation from solid to liquid (SPSL) in the mid-to-high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere has become more pronounced due to global warming and human activities. It leads to an increase in rain-on-snow (ROS) events and avalanche disasters, affecting the speed, intensity, and duration of spring snow-melting, accelerating sea ice and glacier melting, releasing carbon from permafrost, altering soil moisture, productivity, and phenological characteristics of ecosystems, and thereby affecting their structures, processes, qualities, and service functions. For a number field F and a prime number p, the Z_(p)-torsion module of the Galois group of the maximal abelian pro-p extension of F unramified outside p over F, denoted by T_(p)(F), is an important subject in the abelian p-ramification theory. In this paper, we study the group T_(2)(F) = T_(2)(m) of the quadratic field F = Q(m_(1/2)). Firstly, assuming m > 0, we prove an explicit 4-rank formula for quadratic fields that rk4(T_(2)(-m))= rk2(T_(2)(-m))-rank(R), where R is a certain explicitly described Rédei matrix over F_(2). Furthermore, using this formula, we obtain the 4-rank density formula of T_(2)-groups of imaginary quadratic fields. Secondly, for l an odd prime, we obtain the results about the 2-power divisibility of orders of T_(2)(±l) and T_(2)(±2l), both of which are cyclic 2-groups. In particular, we find that #T_(2)(l) ≡ 2#T_(2)(2l) ≡ h_(2)(-2l)(mod 16) if l ≡ 7(mod 8),where h_(2)(-2l) is the 2-class number of Q((-2l)_(1/2)). We then obtain the density results for T_(2)(±l) and T_(2)(±2l)when the orders are small. Finally, based on our density results and numerical data, we propose distribution conjectures about T_(p)(F) when F varies over real or imaginary quadratic fields for any prime p, and about T_(2)(±l)and T_(2)(±2l) when l varies, in the spirit of Cohen-Lenstra heuristics. Our conjecture in the T_(2)(l) case is closely connected to Shanks-Sime-Washington’s speculation on the distributions of the zeros of 2-adic L-functions and to the distributions of the fundamental units.

Herein, an efficient molecular oxygen-mediated method for the selective hydroxyalkylation and alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1 H)-ones with alkylboronic acids under transition-metal free conditions has been developed. This strategy demonstrates a broad scope of quinoxalin-2(1 H)-ones and alkylboronic acids, giving3-hydroxyalkylquinoxalin-2(1 H)-ones and 3-alkylquinoxalin-2(1 H)-ones in moderate-to-good yield. Control experiments reveal that a radical pathway is involved.

Based on the solutions of the Green＇s function for a saturated porous medium obtained by the authors, and using transformation of axisymmetric coordinates, Sommerfeld integrals and superposition of the influence field on a free surface, the authors have obtained displacement solutions of a saturated porous medium subjected to a torsional force in a half-space. The relationship curves of the displacement solutions and various parameters （permeability, frequency, etc.） under action of a unit of torque are also given in this paper. The results are consistent with previous Reissner＇s solutions, where a two-phase medium decays to a single-phase medium. The solution is useful in solving relevant dynamic problems of a two- phase saturated medium in engineering.

Supervised topic modeling algorithms have been successfully applied to multi-label document classification *** models include labeled latent Dirichlet allocation(L-LDA)and ***,these models neglect the class frequency information of words(i.e.,the number of classes where a word has occurred in the training data),which is significant for *** address this,we propose a method,namely the class frequency weight(CF-weight),to weight words by considering the class frequency *** CF-weight is based on the intuition that a word with higher(lower)class frequency will be less(more)*** this study,the CF-weight is used to improve L-LDA and dependency-LDA.A number of experiments have been conducted on real-world multi-label *** results demonstrate that CF-weight based algorithms are competitive with the existing supervised topic models.
