The biochemical efficacy of primary cryoablation combined with prolonged total androgen suppression compared with radiotherapy on high-risk prostate cancer： a 3-year pilot study

To gain beneficial effects in the management of high-risk prostate cancer, an integrated approach that combines local therapy and androgen deprivation therapy （ADT） was used. We compared biochemical responses between primary cryosurgical ablation of the prostate （CSAP） combined with prolonged ADT and radiation combined with ADT, which is the established modality in high-risk disease. A total of 33 high-risk patients received CSAP combined with ADT for 3 months before and up to 24 months after treatment. This patient group was matched with another 33 patients who had undergone three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy （3D-CRT） with the same protocol for ADT. Biochemical recurrence （BCR） was assessed by the American Society for Therapeutic Radiation Oncology （ASTRO） definition, the Phoenix definition and a prostate-specific antigen （PSA） cutoff of 0.5 ng mL^-1. Median follow-up was 61.0 ± 11.9 months for the CSAP ＋ ADT group and 86.0±15.8 months for the 3D-CRT ＋ ADT group. In the CSAP group, major complications including rectourethral fistula and incontinence were not noted. In the CSAP ＋ ADT group, 57.0% had BCR using the ASTRO definition, 21.2% using the Phoenix definition and 54.5% using a PSA cutoff of 0.5 ng mL^-1. In the 3D-CRT ＋ ADT group, 54.5%, 21.2% and 54.5% had BCR using the ASTRO, Phoenix and PSA definition, respectively. In the CSAP ＋ ADT group, the BCR-free survival （BRFS） was 54 ± 10 months using the ASTRO definition, 65 ± 5 months using the Phoenix definition and 51 ± 4 months using a PSA cutoff of 0.5 ng mL-1. In the 3D-CRT ＋ ADT group, the BRFS was 68 ± 12, 93 ± 19 and 70 ± 18 months using the ASTRO, Phoenix and PSA definition, respectively. By the log-rank test, the BRFS values for each group were not statistically different. This intermediate-term result indicated that primary CSAP combined with prolonged ADT offers a parallel biochemical response compared with radiotherapy in high-risk prostate cancer.

This study compares and analyzes stereotactic radiotherapy using tomotherapy and linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy in the treatment of intra-cranial tumors,according to some *** this study,linac-based fractionated stereotactic radiotherapy and tomotherapy treatment were administered to five patients diagnosed with intra-cranial cancer in which the dose of 18–20 Gy was applied on 3–5 separate *** tumor dosing was decided by evaluating the inhomogeneous index （II） and conformity index （CI）.Also,the radiation-sensitive tissue was evaluated using low dose factors V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,and V10,as well as the non-irradiation ratio volume （NIV）.The values of the II for each prescription dose in the linacbased non-coplanar radiotherapy plan and tomotherapy treatment plan were （0.125±0.113） and （0.090±0.180）,respectively,and the values of the CI were （0.899±0.149） and （0.917±0.114）,*** low dose areas,V1,V2,V3,V4,V5,and V10,in radiation-sensitive tissues in the linac-based non-coplanar radiotherapy plan fell into the ranges 0.3%–95.6%,0.1%–87.6%,0.1%–78.8%,38.8%–69.9%,26.6%–65.2%,and 4.2%–39.7%,respectively,and the tomotherapy treatment plan had ranges of 13.6%–100%,3.5%–100%,0.4%–94.9%,0.2%– 82.2%,0.1%–78.5%,and 0.3%–46.3%,*** the NIV for each organ,it is possible to obtain similar values except for the irradiation area of the brain *** percentages of NIV10%,NIV20%,and NIV30%for the brain stem in each patient were 15%–99.8%,33.4%–100%,and 39.8%–100%,respectively,in the fractionated stereotactic treatment plan and 44.2%–96.5%,77.7%–99.8%,and 87.8%–100%,respectively,in the tomotherapy treatment *** order to achieve higher-quality treatment of intra-cranial tumors,treatment plans should be tailored according to the isodose target volume,inhomogeneous index,conformity index,position of the tumor upon fractionated stereotactic radiosurgery,and radiation dosage for radiation-sensitive tissues.

Relationships between Pathological Patterns and Vocal Qualities Estimated by Acoustic Parameters

Objective： To examine whether vocal characteristics estimated by acoustic parameters were associated with phlegm, yin deficiency, or cold-heat patterns. Methods： A total of 75 college students （males：females = 53：22） aged 19-24 years were enrolled in this study. Each subject was asked to complete the phlegm pattern questionnaire （PPQ）, yin deficiency questionnaire （YDQ） and cold-heat questionnaire （CHQ）. For the acoustic analysis, each subject was asked to produce a sustained vowel sound （/a/） for 3 s to be used to calculate acoustic parameters. Then, habitual fundamental frequency （F0）, jitter, shimmer, F0 tremor, mean F0, standard deviation of F0, maximum F0, minimum F0, normalized noise energy, harmonic-to-noise ratio, signal-to-noise ratio, amplitude tremor, and power ratio were calculated using the Dr. Speech software. Finally, four hierarchical regression models with pattern questionnaire scores as dependent variables were formed to examine which factors among acoustic parameters, sex, and age were predictive of those pattern scores. Results： PPQ, YDQ, heat, and cold pattern scores all formed significant regression model equations and the adjusted R2 values were 0.281, 0.164, 0.156, and 0.170, respectively. There were aging effects in the PPQ and YDQ models （standardized β =0.199, 0.271, respectively）. Vocal tremor-related Fo tremor and vocal ringing-related power ratio parameters were associated with PPQ and YDQ scores. Gender was directly predictive of PPQ and indirectly moderated the relationship between power ratio and YDQ score. Vocal pitch- related habitual F0 and mean F0 were associated with heat and cold scores. These results indicate that the vocal qualities of phlegm- and yin deficiency-susceptible subjects tend to be ringing and less tremorous, and those of heat- and cold-susceptible subjects tend to be high-pitched. Analysis and optimization of nitrile butadiene rubber sealing mechanism of ball valve

An approach for analyzing and optimizing sealing mechanism of ball valve made of nitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) with finite element method was presented. The Mooney-Rivlin hyperelastic material model was chosen to characterize NBR sealing, as it has been recommended in the similar applications. That is, NBR sealing was modeled as incompressible hyperelasticity, as well as the assumption of isotropic flow. The results illustrate the structural pressure and contact pressure on the contact surface, which shows that the NBR sealing mechanism is very suitable for sealing after dimension optimization.

Anti-neuro-inflammatory effects of Nardostachys chinensis in lipopolysaccharide-and lipoteichoic acid-stimulated microglial cells

Excessive microglial cell activation is related to the progression of chronic neuro-inflammatory disorders. Heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) expression mediated by the NFE2-related factor(Nrf-2) pathway is a key regulator of neuro-inflammation. Nardostachys chinensis is used as an anti-malarial, anti-nociceptive, and neurotrophic treatment in traditional Asian medicines. In the present study, we examined the effects of an ethyl acetate extract of N. chinensis(EN) on the anti-neuro-inflammatory effects mediated by HO-1 up-regulation in Salmonella lipopolysaccharide(LPS)- or Staphylococcus aureus lipoteichoic acid(LTA)-stimulated BV2 microglial cells. Our results indicated that EN suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokine production and induced HO-1 transcription and translation through Nrf-2/antioxidant response element(ARE) signaling. EN markedly inhibited LPS- and LTA-induced activation of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-?B) as well as phosphorylation of mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPKs) and signal transducer and activator of transcription(STAT). Furthermore, EN protected hippocampal HT22 cells from indirect neuronal toxicity mediated by LPS- and LTA-treated microglial cells. These results suggested that EN impairs LPS- and LTA-induced neuro-inflammatory responses in microglial cells and confers protection against indirect neuronal damage to HT22 cells. In conclusion, our findings indicate that EN could be used as a natural anti-neuro-inflammatory and neuroprotective agent.

Fermentation of mulberry leaves with Cordyceps militaris enhanced anti-adipogenesis activity in 3T3-L1 cells through down-regulation of PPAR-γ pathway signaling

Objective:To establish an efficacious and efficient fermentation method of enhancing the anti-adipogenesis effect of mulberry(Morus alba) leaves using Cordyceps ***:Dried mulberry leaves,dried mulberry leaves with50% raw silkworm pupa and raw silkworm pupa were fermented with Cordyceps militais for 4 weeks at 25℃,after which the dried mulberry leaves and fermented product were extracted with 70%ethanol and subjected to high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC).The contents of cordycepin,pelargonidin,chlorogenic acid,iso-quercetin and caffeic acid were *** then used the 3 T3-L1 cells to investigate whether extracts of fermentation enhanced anti-adipogenesis activity in ***:HPLC showed that fermentation changed the contents of cordycepin,pelargonidin,chlorogenic acid,iso-quercetin and caffeic ***,fermented dried mulberry leaves with 50% raw silkworm pupa had a better efficacy of anti-adipogenesis than dried mulberry leaves,fermented dried mulberry leaves and fermented silkworm pupa and inhibited triglycerides accumulation and glucose ***,fermented dried mulberry leaves with50% raw silkworm pupa inhibited PPAR-γ ***:Fermentation with Cordyceps militaris enhanced antiadipogenesis efficacy of mulberry leaves.

Effects of Nitrogen Source and Bacterial Elicitor on Isoflavone Accumulation in Root Cultures of Albizzia kalkora （Roxb.） Prain

Changes in cellular isoflavone （daidzein and genistein） contents were monitored in root cultures of Albizzia kalkora （Roxb.） Prain after feeding different ratios of NH4^＋/NO3^- and treatment with a biotic elicitor （three strains of Rhizobium sp.）. The NH4^＋/NO3^- ratio appears to be positively correlated with daidzein content in the roots and shows a negative correlation with genistein. Among the three different strains of Rhizobium used, the strain ATCC 15834 caused a 35% increase in daidzein production by infection. In the case of genistein, maximum production （94%） was obtained when cultures were treated on Day 6 by the strains ATCC 15834 and KCTC 1541. The biosynthetic pathway of the two isoflavones apparently reacts differently to the same culture conditions and the same strains of Rhizobium. Therefore, the present data suggest that the production of daidzein and genistein could be modulated by changing the NH4^＋/NO3^- ratio and the application of Rhizobium.

CFRP （carbon fiber reinforced plastics） composite materials have wide applicability because of their inherent design flexibility and improved material properties. However, impacted composite structures have 50%-75% less strength than undamaged structures. In this work, a CFRP composite material was nondestructively characterized in order to ensure product quality and structural integrity of CFRP and one-sided pitch-catch technique was developed to measure impacted-damaged area by using an automated-data acquisition system in an immersion tank. A pitch-catch signal was found to be more sensitive than normal incidence backwall echo of longitudinal wave under defect conditions in the composite.

Weldability evaluation and tensile strength estimation model for aluminum alloy lap joint welding using hybrid system with laser and scanner head

Aluminum welding using a hybrid system with a laser and scanner welding head was performed under various welding conditions to verify the feasibility of applying an aluminum alloy to a car *** experimental material was 5J32 aluminum alloy,and the laser power,welding speed,and laser incidence angle were used as the control *** weld bead shape and the tensile shear strength were evaluated in order to understand the aluminum lap joint weld *** of variance (ANOVA) was conducted to identify the effect of the process variables on the tensile shear *** strength estimation models using three different regression models were also *** input variables were the laser power,welding speed,and laser incidence angle,and the output was the tensile shear *** the models,the second-order polynomial estimation model had the best estimation performance,and the average error rate of this model was 0.058.

OPTIMUM ORDERING POLICY FOR PREVENTIVE AGE REPLACEMENT

Most of the spare ordering policies treated up to now have assumed that preventive and corrective replacement costs are equal, which implies in essential that there is no significant need for preventive replacement. This paper presents an ordering policy for preventive age replacement with minimal repair. Introducing the replacement, repair, inventory holding and shortage costs, the expected cost rate is derived. A procedure to determine jointly the ordering time for a spare and the preventive replacement time for the operating unit so as to minimize the expected cost rate is proposed. To explain the ordering policy and the optimization procedure, a numerical example is also included.
