Short-term entecavir versus lamivudine therapy for HBeAg-negative patients with acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure

BACKGROUND: Selection of drugs for antiviral therapy of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) remains difficult. This study was undertaken to evaluate the short-term efficacy of entecavir versus lamivudine on hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative patients with ACLF. METHODS: The data of 182 HBeAg-negative patients with ACLF were retrospectively collected from patient profiles of the hospital. In these patients, 93 HBeAg-negative patients with ACLF were treated orally with 0.5 mg of entecavir and 89 were treated orally with 100 mg of lamivudine every day. The gender and age were matched between the two groups. Biochemical items, the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, and HBV DNA level were matched at baseline between the two groups and monitored during treatment. The 3-month mortalities of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: No significant differences were found in biochemical items, MELD score, and HBV DNA level at baseline (P>0.05). HBV DNA level decreased within 3 months in both groups (P0.05). Pretreatment MELD score was not related to posttreatment HBV DNA levels (P>0.05), but related to a 3-month mortality in both groups (both P<0.001).CONCLUSIONS: In HBeAg-negative patients with ACLF, the short-term efficacy of entecavir versus lamivudine was similar. The degree of pretreatment liver failure significantly affected the outcome of treatment.

The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus is still looming worldwide,and the pandemic has challenged health care delivery and health care systems internationally.[1]The epidemic of seasonal influenza would occur in the winter *** coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)and influenza share many clinical symptoms,[2]it is difficult to distinguish these two respiratory infections in the early stage.[3]Although nucleic acid testing was the gold standard to identify different virus infected diseases,false-negative nucleic acid results were reported frequently in COVID-19,[4]and its diagnostic sensitivity is less ***,the aim of our study is to explore and compare the clinical characteristics of COVID-19 and influenza,which could deepen the understanding of these two diseases and provide some guidance for clinicians to make a differential diagnosis.

Thermal mixing and stratification phenomena may occur during the loss of a coolant accident or main steam line break accident in the containment of a Passive Containment Cooling System, or in the suppression pools in BWR. However, the present study pays insufficient attention to the thermal stratification phenomena in the containment of small modular reactors(SMR). In this paper, an investigation on the mixing and thermal stratification phenomena caused by the plumes or buoyant jets in SMR containments was carried out. The experiments were both conducted under non-adiabatic and adiabatic conditions for a steel containment. In each condition, two key parameters, inlet temperature, and flow rate were tested by controlling variables to identify their influence on the thermal stratification phenomenon. The visualization experiments illustrated the jet mixing and stratification development. The experiment results were compared with the numerical computation and they reached a good agreement.

To utilize themultiple functions and give full play of ginsenosides,a variety of ginsenosides with different structures were prepared into liposomes and evaluated for their effect on the stability,pharmacokinetics and tumor targeting capability of *** results showed that the position and number of glycosyl groups of ginsenosides have significant effect on the in vitro and in vivo properties of their *** pharmacokinetics of ginsenosides liposomes indicated that the C-3 sugar group of ginsenosides is beneficial to their liposomes for longer circulation in *** C-3 and C-6 glycosyls can enhance the uptake of their liposomes by 4T1 cells,and the glycosyls at C-3 position can enhance the tumor active targeting ability significantly,based on the specific binding capacity to Glut 1 expressed on the surface of 4T1 *** to the results in the study,ginsenoside Rg3 and ginsenoside Rh2 are potential for exploiting novel liposomes because of their cholesterol substitution,long blood circulation and tumor targeting *** results provide a theoretical basis for further development of ginsenoside based liposome delivery systems.

The prebiotic synthesis of peptides prior to ribosome-catalyzed processes remains an *** synthesis of abiotic peptides from amino acids(AAs)is primarily constrained by high activation energies and unfavorable thermodynamics,necessitating the identification of plausible prebiotic alternatives for synthesizing prebiotic *** we present a plausible pathway to the formation of prebiotic peptides,wherein oligopeptides,oligopeptide amides,and cyclic oligopeptides can be directly synthesized from amino acid amides(AA-NH2)under wet–dry cycle conditions without the need for any *** subsequent investigation revealed that AA-NH2 demonstrated more favorable thermodynamic reaction effects than AAs in peptide *** contrast to the polymerization of AAs,the process of peptide formation through the polymerization of AA-NH2 was significantly ***,AA-NH2 was discovered to function as a“bridge”for the formation of peptides from AAs,thereby facilitating their participation in the synthesis of intricate peptide *** the basis of these findings,a plausible mechanism for the prebiotic origin network of peptides under primordial Earth conditions has been ***,this research presents a plausible pathway for the generation of prebiotic peptides and peptide libraries within prebiotic environments.

Secondary forests account for a large amount of subtropical forest due to persistent anthropogenic disturbance in *** interaction between vegetation and soil during recovery process is rather complex and dependent on forest *** how vegetation and soil properties changes and how their relationship develops in secondary forests is key to effective forest restoration and *** we explored the patterns of vegetation and soil properties as well as their correlations during forest recovery process in a subtropical forest in south *** of three forest types,i.e.,broadleaf-conifermixedforest,broadleaved forest and old growth stand,were established to represent the recovery *** results showed that diversity patterns in the tree,shrub and herb layers were different:in the tree layer the species diversity peaked at the intermediate stage,while in the understory layers it decreased *** of the soil factors showed an increasing trend,and different effects of soil factors were found for the three layers as well as for the two spatial ***,our results suggested that vegetation and soil might be interdependent during the recovery *** studies are needed on exploring how vegetation interplays with soil at different scales and how nutrient limitations affects the vegetation development in a chronosequence.

Large-scale electrolysis of water to produce high-purity hydrogen is one of the effective ways to solve the energy crisis and environmental pollution ***,efficient,cheap and stable catalysts are one of the bottlenecks for industrial application in water ***,a facile one-step hydrothermal process was applied to fabricate Mn-doped nickel ferrite nanosheets(Mn-NiFe_(2)O_(4))which shown a low overpotential of 200 mV at 50 mA·cm^(-2)and a small Tafel slope of 47 mV·dec^(-1),together with a prominent turnover frequency(TOF)value(0.14 s^(-1))and robust *** in-situ UV-vis spectroscopy unveiled the surface reconstruction to generate NiOOH as active sites during oxygen evolution reaction(OER).The excellent electrocatalytic activity of Mn-NiFe_(2)O_(4)is attributed to the vertically grown nanosheets for exposure more active sites,rich oxygen vacancies,and the hybridization between Ni 3d and O 2p orbitals caused by Mn *** work should provide a facile strategy by Mn-doping to simultaneously engineer oxygen vacancies and electronic structure for synergistically triggering oxygen evolution reaction.
