Effect of acupuncture therapy on fracture healing in rats with femur fractures

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of acupuncture therapy on fracture healing in rats with femur ***: A total of 10 groups were formed;control group, groups sacrificed on 7 th, 14 th, and 21 st days of fracture formation, groups to which acupuncture was applied for 7, 14, and 21 d, groups to which fracture and acupuncture were applied for 7,14, and 21 d. A transverse fracture line was formed in femurs of rats by using a Gigli saw. The Kirschner wire was driven retrograde down from the fracture line to proximal part of the bone and then, the fracture was fixed towards distal part. Acupuncture was applied to the rats for 7, 14, and 21 d as 4 sessions per week after formation of the ***: Malondialdehyde(MDA), reduced glutathione(GSH) levels, catalase(CAT), glutathione-Stransferase(GST), superoxide dismutase(SOD), and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase(G6 PD) activities were measured. Despite the increased MDA levels, G6 PD and SOD activities reduced during the fracture healing. There was a statistically significant increase in MDA, GSH levels, and G6 PD activity in fracture groups compared to control group, but CAT, GST, and SOD activities decreased. The use of acupuncture enhanced callus development and bone mineralization during bone ***: The acupuncture therapy can affect suppression of the effects of free oxygen radicals and regulation of the antioxidant enzyme activity in fracture healing. Thus, it is suggested that acupuncture treatment would be beneficial for fracture healing in order to eliminate the negative effects induced by oxygen free radicals.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a multisystemic clinical condition that presents with a wide spectrum of extrahepatic manifestations,such as obesity,type 2 diabetes mellitus,metabolic syndrome,cardiovascular diseases,chronic kidney disease,extrahepatic malignancies,cogni-tive disorders,and polycystic ovarian *** NAFLD patients,the most common mortality etiology is cardiovascular disorders,followed by extrahepatic malignancies,diabetes mellitus,and liver-related ***,the severity of extrahepatic diseases is parallel to the severity of *** clinical practice,awareness of the associations of concomitant diseases is of major importance for initiating prompt and timely screening and multidisciplinary management of the disease *** 2020,a consensus from 22 countries redefined the disease as metabolic(dysfunction)-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD),which resulted in the redefinition of the corre-sponding *** the patients diagnosed with MAFLD and NAFLD mostly overlap,the MAFLD and NAFLD populations are not *** this review,we compared the associations of key extrahepatic diseases between NAFLD and MAFLD.

Structural and superconducting properties in Y_(0.6)Gd_(0.4)Ba_2(Nb)Cu_3O_(7-y) cuprates doped with niobium

Polycrystalline YBa2Cu3O7-y （YBCO） and Y0.6Gd0.4Ba2-xNbxCu3O7-y （YGBNCO） compounds with 0≤x≤0.225 were synthesized using standard solid state reaction technique. The structure for all samples was characterized by X-ray difference （XRD） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The transport properties were measured by the （FPP） method in the temperature range from 70 to 130 K. As the Nb content in the samples increased, a diffused phase indicating a niobium perovskite phase and a small amount of unidentified phase appeared. With the increase of Nb content, the superconducting transition temperature Tconset increased slowly with x≤0.125, and then it remained unchanged or slowly decreased with 0.125≤x≤0.225. It could be found that there was a slow decrease of zero-resistance temperature, Tcoffset, with the increase of Nb content. The larger transition width might result from the YBa2NbO6 phase, impurity and unidentified phases of the sample due to the Nb doping.

DTL cavity design and beam dynamics for a TAC linear proton accelerator

A 30 mA drift tube linac （DTL） accelerator has been designed using SUPERFISH code in the energy range of 3-55 MeV in the framework of the Turkish Accelerator Center （TAC） project. Optimization criteria in cavity design are effective shunt impedance （ZTT）, transit-time factor and electrical breakdown limit. In geometrical optimization we have aimed to increase the energy gain in each RF gap of the DTL cells by maximizing the effective shunt impedance （ZTT） and the transit-time factor. Beam dynamics studies of the DTL accelerator have been performed using beam dynamics simulation codes of PATH and PARMILA. The results of both codes have been compared. In the beam dynamical studies, the rms values of beam emittance have been taken into account and a low emittance growth in both x and y directions has been attempted.

Construction of a Quadratic Model for Predicted and Measured Global Solar Radiation in Chile

Global solar radiation data for sites in Chile are analysed and presented in a form suitable for their use in engineering. A new model for monthly average data is developed to predict monthly average global radiation with acceptable accuracy by using actinographic data due to scarcing of pyranometer data. Use of the new quadratic model is proposed because of its relatively wider spectrum of values for Angstrom coefficients ao, al, and a2.

Drag pick cutting tests: A comparison between experimental and theoretical results

This paper aims at reporting the results of a number of drag pick cutting tests on selected igneous rock samples to compare the experimentally determined maximum cutting force （FC） values with theoreti- cally estimated ones. First, a review on theoretical rock cutting models proposed for both chisel and conical picks was presented in detail. Experimental study consists of both chisel and conical pick cutting tests in unrelieved （single-pick） cutting mode with varying cutting depths. FC＇ values were determined from experimental results, and theoretical models were utilized to compute FC for all cutting conditions. Computed and experimentally determined F（ data were then compared for a referenced cutting depth. It is shown that the theoretical models might overestimate or underestimate FC＇ and cannot give reliable results. Finally, explanations for these mismatches were presented.

Effect of acupressure on procedural pain before heel lancing in neonates

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of acupressure applied to UB60 and K3 acupuncture points in order to relieve the procedural pain caused by heel lancing blood sampling process in the term ***:The data were collected by using the Information Form and the Neonatal Infant Pain *** applied for 3 min before heel lancing blood sampling in the newborns in the experimental group(n=31).No intervention was applied to newborns in the control group(n=32).RESULTS:A significant difference was found between mean scores of the newborns in the control and acupressure group in favor of the acupressure group in terms of heart rate during and after the procedure,oxygen saturation before,during and after the procedure,duration of crying during and after the procedure(P<0.05).It was found that there was a significant difference between groups in terms of Neonatal Infant Pain Scale mean scores during(P=0.001)and after the procedure(P<0.05),and the difference was found to be in favor of the acupressure ***:As a result,acupressure was found to be an effective method in relieving pain caused by heel lancing blood sampling in newborns.

Synthesis and thermoluminescence properties of rare earth oxides (Y, Ce-Lu) doped lithium triborate

Lithium triborate （LiB3O5） was synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction method, and then rare earth oxides were doped into LiB3O5 to enhance its thermoluminescent （TL） properties. The identification and characteristics of the obtained compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） analyses, differential thermal analyses （DTA） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The glow curves were obtained using a thermoluminescent （TL） reader. The results revealed that all the rare earth oxides were not good activators for lithium triborate and the obtained compounds could not be used for dosimetric applications.

Synthetic demand data generation for individual electricity consumers :Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs)

Load modeling is one of the crucial tasks for improving smart grids’ energy efficiency. Among manyalternatives, machine learning-based load models have become popular in applications and have shownoutstanding performance in recent years. The performance of these models highly relies on data quality andquantity available for training. However, gathering a sufficient amount of high-quality data is time-consumingand extremely expensive. In the last decade, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) have demonstrated theirpotential to solve the data shortage problem by generating synthetic data by learning from recorded/empiricaldata. Educated synthetic datasets can reduce prediction error of electricity consumption when combined withempirical data. Further, they can be used to enhance risk management calculations. Therefore, we proposeRCGAN, TimeGAN, CWGAN, and RCWGAN which take individual electricity consumption data as input toprovide synthetic data in this study. Our work focuses on one dimensional times series, and numericalexperiments on an empirical dataset show that GANs are indeed able to generate synthetic data with realisticappearance.

Mechanical properties and impact resistance of concrete composites with hybrid steel fibers

The aim of this study is to develop concrete composites that are resistant to armor-piercing projectiles for defense *** reinforcement configurations have been tested,such as short steel fibers,long steel fibers,and steel mesh *** different concrete mix designs were prepared as“Ultra High Performance(UHPFRC),High Performance(HPFRC)and Conventional(CFRC)Fiber Reinforced Concrete”.The content of hybrid steel fibers was approximately 5%in the UHPFRC and HPFRC mixtures,while the steel fiber content was approximately 2.5%in the CFRC *** addition,a plain state of each mixture was *** properties of concrete were determined in experimental *** addition to the fracture energy and impact strength,two important indicators of ballistic performance of concrete are examined,which are the penetration depth and damage *** results of the study show that the depth of penetration in UHPFRC was around 35%less than that in *** was determined that the mixtures of UHPFRC and HPFRC containing 5%by volume of hybrid steel fibers showed superior performance(smaller crater diameter and the less projectile penetration depth)against armor-piercing projectiles in ballistic tests and could be used in defense structures.
