The physical environment plays a critical role in modulating stem cell differentiation into specific lineages. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of low-molecular-weight gels （LMWGs） with different moduli based on phenylboronic acid derivatives. The moduli of the LMWGs were readily tuned by varying the alkyl chain without any chemical crosslinker. The cell responses to the gels were evaluated with mesenchymal stem cell （MSCs）, in respect of cell morphology, proliferation and differentiation. The prepared gels were non-toxic to MSCs, suggesting good biocompatibility. The hydrogel stiffness exerted a striking modulation effect on MSC fate decisions, where MSCs were inclined to differentiate into osteoblasts in stiff LMWGs and into chondrocytes in soft LMWGs. The pivotal elastic modulus of the LMWGs to drive MSC differentiation into osteoblastic lineage and chondrocytic lineage were approximately 20 kPa - 40 kPa and 1 kPa - 10 kPa, respectively. Overall, our results demonstrated that the modification ofhydrogel stiffness via tuning the alkyl chain was a simple but effective approach to regulate MSC differentiation into specific lineage, which might have important implications in the design of LMWGs for tissue engineering applications.

A low molecular weight gelator with dual pH and glucose sensitive moieties was synthesized. The gelator penetrated in the mesopores of silica nanoparticles(MSNs) and formed low molecular weight gel(LMWG) as gate to fabricate dual pH and glucose responsive nano drug delivery system. Antidiabetic drug was loaded in the gel caped MSNs, the drug release was responsive to the pH and glucose levels and the drug release could be controlled via the stimuli sensitivity of gel.

This paper reports on the degradation of 4-aminophenol using hydrogen peroxide as oxidizer and the enzyme from Serratia marcescens AB 90027 as *** effecting factors during degradation and the degrading mechanism were ***,the location of the enzyme in the cell,which could catalyze the degradation of 4-aminophenol,was *** results showed that to degrade 50 mL of 4-aminophenol whose concentration was 500 mg/L,the optimal conditions were:volume of H_(2)O_(2)=3 mL,temperature=40-60°C and pH=*** the degra-dation process,4-aminophenol was first converted to benzo-quinone and NH3,then organic acids including maleic acid,fumaleic acid,and oxalic acid were formed,and then finally CO_(2) and H2O were generated as final *** enzyme that could catalyze the degradation of 4-aminophenol was mainly extracellular enzyme.

Host-guest supramolecular gels were developed via the self-assembly of inclusion complexes(ICs) ofβ-cyclodextrins/phenylboronic acid gelator(PBA).Salts and current were involved in the self-assembly to stabilize the host-guest *** stability of the gels was greatly improved after salts were *** stable time of gels was extended from 2.5 h to 120 h with the addition of NH_4 NO_3 at the concentration of 2.5×10^(-2) g/*** morphology of the gel was affected by the concentrations of NH_4NO_*** images revealed that the gels were three-dimensional nanofibrous networks,the sizes of fibers decreased with decreasing NH_4NO_3 concentrations,which affected the stability of gels,further proved by the rheological properties of *** stable gels were obtained with current stimulation,the stable time of the gel was increased from 2.5 h to 55 h with current by adding NaBF_*** current also exhibited significant influence on the aggregation as the voltage varied(0-500 mV) with a constant concentration of *** result showed the self-assembly process of host-guest gel could be well controlled via the addition of salts and current to desired morphology and stability.

A photocleavable low-molecular-weight hydrogelator (LMWG) was synthesized based on coumarin derivative.~1H NMR and UV spectroscopy study suggested that the gelator had good gelling ability, and the driving force for the gelation were hydrogen bonding and π-π stacking. This molecular hydrogel exhibited satisfied photocleavage at C-N bond in 7-amino coumarin with the light irradiation (365 nm,77.5 mW/cm^2). The promising photo-triggered drug release of antineoplastics cytarabine hydrochloride has been obtained, due to the photocleavage motived gel-sol transition.

Biodegradable polymer particles have been used as dermal fillers for pre-clinical and clinical *** impact of material properties of polymers is very important to develop products for aesthetic medicine such as dermal ***,eight biodegradable polymers with different molecular weights,chemical compositions or hydrophilic-hydrophobic properties were prepared and characterized for systematical study for aesthetic medicine *** microspheres with 20-100 lmwere *** in vitro degradation study showed that poly(L-lactic-co-glycolic acid)75/25 microspheres degraded the fastest,whereas poly(L-lactic acid)(PLLA)microspheres with intrinsic viscosity of 6.89([g]¼6.89)with the highest molecular weight showed the slowest degradation *** these microspheres were fabricated dermal fillers according to the formula of SculptraVR,they were injected subcutaneously into the back skin of *** vivo results demonstrated that the degradation rate of microspheres strongly correlated with the foreign body reaction and collagen regeneration was induced by *** microspheres with faster degradation rate induced inflammatory response and the collagen regeneration maintained in shorter ***([g]¼3.80)microsphere with a moderate molecular weight and degradation rate could strongly regenerate Type I and III collagen to maintain a long-term aesthetic medicine *** properties of size,morphology and degradation behavior would influence the foreign body reaction and collagen regeneration.

Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)is a chronic and refractory condition characterized by disrupted epithelial barrier,dysregulated immune balance,and altered gut ***-enabled interventions for restoring gut homeostasis have the potential to alleviate inflammation in ***,we developed a combination of olsalazine(Olsa)-based nanoneedles and microbiota-regulating inulin gel to reshape intestinal homeostasis and relieve *** Olsa-derived nanoneedles exhibited reactive oxygen species scavenging ability and anti-inflammatory effects in lipopolysaccharide-simulated *** composite of nanoneedles and inulin gel(Cu2(Olsa)/Gel)displayed a macroporous structure,improved bio-adhesion,and enhanced colon retention after oral ***,the composite effectively downregulated pro-inflammatory cytokine levels and promoted epithelial barrier repair through anti-inflammatory and antioxidant therapies,resulting in significant alleviation of colitis in three animal models of ***,analysis of gut microbiota revealed that Cu2(Olsa)/Gel treatment increased the diversity of intestinal microflora and decreased the relative abundance of pathogenic bacteria such as ***,this study provides a self-delivering nanodrug and dietary fiber hydrogel composite for IBD therapy,offering an efficient approach to restore intestinal homeostasis.

Bacterial infection is a vital factor to delay the wound healing *** antibiotics abuse leads to drug resistance of some pathogenic ***-antibiotic-dependent multifunctional biomaterials with accelerated wound healing performance are urgently ***,we reported a composite antibacterial hydrogel PDA-PAM/Mg^(2+)that shows excellent self-healing and tissue adhesive property,and photothermal antibacterial functions for accelerating wound *** gel was composed of polyacrylamide(PAM),polydopamine(PDA),and magnesium(Mg^(2+))and prepared via a two-step procedure:an alkali-induced dopamine pre-polymerization and followed radical polymerization *** composite gel shows excellent tissue adhesiveness and Mg^(2+)-synergized photothermal antibacterial activity,inducing a survival rate of 5.29% for *** and 7.06%for *** after near infrared light *** composite hydrogel further demonstrated efficient bacteria inhibition,enhanced wound healing and collagen deposition in a full-thickness skin defect rat ***,the PDA-PAM/Mg^(2+) hydrogel presents an excellent wound dressing with excellent tissue adhesion,wound healing,and antibacterial functions.
