Water quality and habitat drive phytoplankton taxonomic and functional group patterns in the Yangtze River

Background Although phytoplankton are important primary producers in food webs, they are relatively less studied in large rivers compared to other types of systems. To fill this research gap, we studied phytoplankton taxonomic and functional composition and their relationships with water quality, habitat, climate, and land use across 30 river sections in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River during 2.17–*** Major observed phytoplankton groups were cyanobacteria, bacillariophyta, and chlorophyta. Phytoplankton total abundance, total biomass, and species richness significantly decreased in the dry season compared to the wet season, with the species and functional composition differing significantly between seasons. Phytoplankton species differences between seasons were mainly contributed by Oscillatoria sp., Pseudanabaena sp., and Melosira granulata. The dfferences in phytoplankton functional groups between seasons were mainly contributed by P（including Closterium sp., Melosira sp.）, Lo（including Merismopedia sp., Peridinium sp., Ceratium sp., and Gymnodinium sp.）, and J（including Pediastrum sp., Tetraedron sp., Crucigenia sp., Scenedesmus sp., and Coelastrum sp.）. The variance partitioning showed that water quality（NO3-N, total suspended solids, turbidity） and habitat（water flow, river bank and river channel conditions） were critical factors in shaping phytoplankton patterns, followed by climate and land *** Results indicated that there was significant seasonal variation of phytoplankton in the Yangtze River, with water quality and habitat primarily driving phytoplankton patterns. Our study contributes to the understanding of natural and anthropogenic factors that drive seasonal successional processes of phytoplankton in the Yangtze River. These findings have important implications for environmental management as well as towards the ecological restoration of large rivers.

Chinese plum(Prunus salicina Lindl.)originates from China and makes a large contribution to the global production of *** ***‘Wushancuili'has a green coloration and high fruit quality and is economically important in eliminating poverty and protecting ecology in the Yangtze River Three Gorges ***,rain-induced cracking(rain-cracking,literally skin cracking caused by rain)is a limitation to‘Wushancuili'fruit production and causes severe *** study reported a high-quality‘Wushancuili'genome assembly consisting of a 302.17-Mb sequence with eight pseudo-chromosomes and a contig N50 of 2..59 Mb through the combination of Illumina sequencing,Pacific Biosciences HiFiⅢsequencing,and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture technology.A total of 2.109 protein-coding genes are predicted and 54.17%of the genome is composed of repetitive sequences.‘Wushancuili'underwent a remarkable orthoselection during *** identification revealed that loss-of-function in four core MYB10 genes results in the anthocyanin deficiency and absence of red color,revealing the green coloration due to the residual high chlorophyll in fruit ***,the occurrence of cracking is assumed to be closely associated with cell wall modification and frequently rain-induced pathogen enrichment through transcriptomic *** loss of MYB10 genes might render fruit more susceptible to pathogen-mediated cracking by weakening the epidermal strength and reactive oxygen species(ROS)*** findings provided fundamental knowledge regarding fruit coloration and rain-cracking and will facilitate genetic improvement and cultivation management in Chinese plums.

This research aims to develop a non-invasive strategy for small interfering RNA(siRNA)nasal delivery based on ionic liquids(ILs)and cationic lipid(2.3-dioleoyloxy-propyl)-trimethylammonium-chloride(DOTAP).Other than the classical role of penetration enhancer,ILs also acted as superior solvents to simultaneously load siRNA and DOTAP,forming siRNA-DOTAP-ILs(siRNA-DILs)*** nasal mucosa penetration,DOTAP and ILs components self-assembled into cationic lipid nanocomplexes to load siRNA for enhanced in situ *** siRNA-DILs demonstrated resistance against RNase,significant mucosa penetration,prolonged nasal retention,and satisfying gene-silencing efficacy at lower ***,DILs were also able to deliver KCa3.1-targeted siRNA effectively for the treatment of allergic rhinitis in rat model by nasal ***,DILs have great potentials to deliver biological macromolecules across nasal mucosa by in situ dynamic self-assembly.

This article reviews of the original research published by Wu et al in the World Journal of Gastroenterology,delving into the pivotal role of the gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease(CD).Insights were gained from fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)in mouse models,revealing the intricate interplay between the gut microbiota,mesenteric adipose tissue(MAT),and creeping *** study uncovered the characteristics of inflammation and fibrosis in the MAT and intestinal tissues of patients with CD;moreover,through the FMT mouse model,it observed the impact of samples from healthy patients and those with CD on *** pathogenesis of CD is complex,and its etiology remains unclear;however,it is widely believed that gut microbiota dysbiosis plays a significant ***,with the development and application of next-generation sequen-cing technology,research on the role of fungi in the pathogenesis and chronicity of CD has *** editorial serves as a supplement to the research by Wu et al who discussed advances related to the study of fungi in CD.

On September 5,2.19,a moderate earthquake of Mw5.4 unexpectedly occurred in the apparently quiescent central basin of the South China *** immediately carried out a seismicity monitoring experiment around the epicenter by using broadband ocean bottom seismometers(OBS)for the following three scientific *** first is knowing the earthquake seismogenic mechanism,fault structure and further *** second is finding the role of the residual spreading ridge playing in earthquake processes and further revealing the deep structures of the ridge directional turning *** third is confirming the existence and significance of the so called“Zhongnan fault”.This paper reports the preliminary results of the first phase *** OBSs were deployed for seismicity monitoring with a duration of 2.8 days,but only three were ***-earthquakes were firstly detected by an automatic seismic phase picking algorithm and then were verified by analyzing their seismic phases and time-frequency characteristics in detail.A total of 2.,68 and 89 microearthquakes were picked out from the three OBSs respectively within the distance of 30 *** dominant frequency of these micro-earthquakes is 12.15 Hz,indicating tectonic *** the first two months after the mainshock the seismicity was relatively stronger,and micro-earthquakes were still occurring occasionally till the end of observation,indicating the epicenter area is *** used Match&Locate method to locate 57 micro-earthquakes *** spatial distribution shows that the seismicity is developed mainly along the NE direction roughly parallel to the residual ridge with depth variations between 10-2. km.

Regulating planting density and nitrogen(N)fertilization could delay chlorophyll(Chl)degradation and leaf senescence in maize *** study measured changes in ear leaf green area(GLA_(ear)),Chl content,the activities of Chl a-degrading enzymes after silking,and the post-silking dry matter accumulation and grain yield under multiple planting densities and N fertilization *** dynamic change of GLA_(ear)after silking fitted to the logistic model,and the GLA_(ear) duration and the GLAearat 42.d after silking were affected mainly by the duration of the initial senescence period(T_(1))which was a key factor of the leaf *** average chlorophyllase(CLH)activity was 8.3 times higher than pheophytinase activity and contributed most to the Chl content,indicating that CLH is a key enzyme for degrading Chl a in *** density increased the CLH activity and decreased the Chl content,T1,GLAear,and GLA_(ear) *** high density,appropriate N application reduced CLH activity,increased Chl content,prolonged T1,alleviated high-density-induced leaf senescence,and increased post-silking dry matter accumulation and grain yield.

The driven-dissipative Langevin dynamics simulation is used to produce a two-dimensional(2.) dense cloud, which is composed of charged dust particles trapped in a quadratic potential. A 2. mesh grid is built to analyze the center-to-wall dust density. It is found that the local dust density in the outer region relative to that of the inner region is more nonuniform,being consistent with the feature of quadratic potential. The dependences of the global dust density on equilibrium temperature, particle size, confinement strength, and confinement shape are investigated. It is found that the particle size, the confinement strength, and the confinement shape strongly affect the global dust density, while the equilibrium temperature plays a minor effect on it. In the direction where there is a stronger confinement, the dust density gradient is bigger.
