Objective:To characterise a collection of pili-carrying and none pili-carrying pneumococcal isolates of clinical origin for serotypes,antibiotic resistance and ***:In total,42 clinical isolates were collected between October 2017 and December *** isolates were analysed for antimicrobial susceptibility,serotype distribution,detection of pneumococcal virulence and pilus *** sequence typing was performed only for piliated isolates,followed by phylogenetic ***:The common isolation sites among the pneumococcal isolates were tracheal aspirate(28.6%),blood(26.2%),and sputum(23.8%).Fifty percent isolates were resistant to erythromycin,tetracycline(50.0%)and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole(43.0%).The most frequent were serotypes 19F(28.6%),6A/B(23.8%)and 19A(14.3%).Piliated isolates were detected in a small proportion(33.3%);64.3%were ***320 was the prevalent sequence type among the piliated isolates and genetically related to the Pneumococcal Molecular Epidemiology Network clones Taiwan19F-14(CC271).In the phylogenetic analysis,some piliated isolates showed a close association having similar ST320,carrying serotype 19A and both pilus genes indicating their clonal ***:Pneumococcal lineages of piliated isolates have been globally disseminated and pili could have played a role in the spread of antibiotic resistant clones.

Objective:To determine the degree of knowledge in the usage of pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool among the community in ***:A cross-sectional survey was conducted in November *** questionnaire assessed the knowledge in using pulse oximeters,user experience and opinions in using pulse oximeter as a home assessment tool during the ***:A total of 504 respondents were included in the study,and the mean score in knowledge related to application of pulse oximetry was 73.00%,while the mean score in knowledge related to factors affecting pulse oximetry readings was only 38.51%.A total of 90.5% of the respondents recognised normal pulse rate and 88.5% knew the blood oxygen saturation levels of a healthy adult,while 69.4% recognised the definition of silent *** addition,the majority of the respondents agreed that factors such as poor blood circulation(71.2%),excessive movements(69.8%),and hand position(60.7%)affected oximetry ***,61.7%,81.7%,77.2% and 76.8% of the respondents could not identify nail polish,skin colour,skin thickness and tattoos as factors that may affect oximetry readings ***:The respondents showed a satisfactory level of knowledge related to application of pulse oximetry,but a poor level of knowledge related to factors affecting pulse oximetry readings among the community in *** efforts in educating the community on the correct use of pulse oximeters are crucial for appropriate home assessment and avoiding unnecessary stress.

目的:报告1例罕见的由梅毒感染引起的视神经周围炎,经皮质类固醇治疗后严重视力缺损得到显著改善。方法:病例报告。结果:一名66岁马来裔女性患者来我院就诊,一眼突然出现视力缺损,动眼时有疼痛感。视力无光感,右眼出现相对性瞳孔传入缺陷(relative afferent pupillary defect,RAPD)。血清学和放射学检查证明为梅毒性视神经周围炎。肌肉注射苄星青霉素,静脉注射甲基醋酸泼尼松龙,然后长期口服类固醇,剂量逐渐降低。经过治疗,患者视力明显提高,恢复到6/18。随访4mo,未出现复发和类固醇相关的副作用。结论:本病诊断正确、治疗及时,能使患者视力得到显著改善。

Introduction: A psychoactive substance has become an overwhelming public health burden globally. It causes social problems for the user and surrounding people which may affect work or study and cause negative economic impact. Objective: This study aims to translate and culturally adapt the Alcohol, Smoking and Substance Involvement Screening Test (ASSIST) into Malay and to assess its reliability and validity. Methods: The Malay version of the ASSIST v 3.1 was developed after the translation and back-translation, which included the stages recommended by Beaton. The ASSIST v 3.1 was administered to 125 respondents. The Malay ASSIST v 3.1 was completed twice by each respondent 7 to 14-day intervals to assess test-retest reliability based on the intra-rater and interrater correlation coefficient. Results: Majority of the respondents were male, Malay and currently employed. The intra-rater reliability is 0.84 and the test-retest reliability (ICC = 0.97) were excellent. Conclusion: Malay ASSIST v3.1 was a valid and reliable tool to screen substances abuse at varying degree. Nonetheless, further studies are needed to assess its responsiveness.

A new series of Schiff base esters, 4-（dimethylamino）benzylidene-4＇-alkanoyloxyanilines containing even number of carbons at the end group of the molecules （Cn-1H2n-1COO, n = 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18） were synthesized. The present compounds were monotropic liquid crystals. It was also found that the end groups of the molecules had effect on the mesomorphic properties. C 2009 Sie Tiong Ha. In the present study, ozone was introduced as an alternative approach to harvest and disrupt microalgae cells (Chlorella vulgaris) simultaneously for biodiesel production. At the optimum ozonation conditions (6.14 g·h^(−1) ozone concentration, 30 min ozonation time, 1 L·min^(−1) of ozone flowrate at medium pH of 10 and temperature of 30℃), the sedimentation efficiency of microalgae cells increased significantly from 12.56% to 68.62%. It was observed that the microalgae cells aggregated to form flocs after pretreated with ozone due to the increment of surface charge from −20 to −6.59 mV. Besides, ozone had successfully disrupted the microalgae cells and resulted in efficient lipid extraction, which was 1.9 times higher than the control sample. The extracted microalgae lipid was mainly consisted of methyl palmitate (C16:0), methyl oleate (C18:1) and methyl linolenate (C18:3), making it suitable for biodiesel production. Finally, utilization of recycled culture media after ozonation pre-treatment showed robust growth of microalgae, in which the biomass yield was maintained in the range of 0.796 to 0.879 g ·h^(−1) for 5 cycles of cultivation.

Objective:To investigate the prevalence of container breeding mosquitoes with emphasis on the seasonality and larval habitats of Aedes aegypti(***) in Makkah City,adjoining an environmental monitoring and dengue ***:Monthly visits were performed between April 2008 and March 2009 to randomly selected *** each visit,mosquito larvae were collected from indoors and outdoors containers by either dipping or pipetting. Mosquitoes were morphologically *** on temperature,relative humidity,rain/ precipitations during the survey period was retrieved from governmental sources and analyzed. Results:The city was warmer in dry season(DS) than wet season(WS).No rain occurred at all during DS and even precipitations did fall,wetting events were much greaterduring *** survey revealed the co-breeding of Aedes,Culex and Anopheles in a variety of artificial containers in and around homes.32109 larvae representing 1st,2nd,3rd,and 4th stages were collected from 22618 container *** was far the commonest and Aedes genus was as numerous as the Culex *** larval abundance exhibited marked temporal variations,overall, being usually more abundant during *** types of artificial containers were found with developing larvae.70%of these habitats were located indoors.71.42%of indoor containers were permanent and 28.58* was semi-permanent during *** tanks was the only container type permanent during *** larval indices(CI,HI,Bl) recorded were greater during WS. Conclusions:Taken together,these results indicate a high risk of dengue transmission in the holy city.
