Blockchain is one of the innovative and disruptive technologies that has a wide range of applications in multiple industries beyond *** widespread adoption of blockchain technology in various industries has shown its potential to solve challenging business problems,as well as the possibility to create new business models which can increase a firm’s *** to the novelty of the technology,whereby many companies are still exploring potential use cases,and considering the complexity of blockchain technology,which may require huge changes to a company’s existing systems and processes,it is important for companies to carefully evaluate suitable use cases and determine if blockchain technology is the best solution for their specific *** research aims to provide an evaluation framework that determines the important dimensions of blockchain suitability assessment by identifying the key determinants of suitable use cases in a business *** this paper,a novel approach that utilizes both qualitative(Delphi method)and quantitative(fuzzy set theory)methods has been proposed to objectively account for the uncertainty associated with data collection and the vagueness of subjective *** work started by scanning available literature to identify major suitability dimensions and collected a range of criteria,indicators,and factors that had been previously identified for related *** opinions were then gathered using a questionnaire to rank the importance and relevance of these elements to suitability ***,the data were analyzed and we proceeded to integrate multi-criteria group decision-making(MCGDM)and intuitionistic fuzzy set(IFS)*** findings demonstrated a high level of agreement among experts,with the model being extremely sensitive to variances in expert ***,the results helped to refine and select the most relevant suitability determinants under three important dimensions:fu

Prevalence of Hyperuricemia among Hospitalized Elderly Patients and Its Association with Metabolic Syndrome

There are few data available on the prevalence of hyperuricemia among elderly and its possible association with metabolic syndrome (MetS) so the aim of this study was to assess prevalence of hyperuricemia among hospitalized elderly patients as well as to assess its association with MetS. Cross sectional data from 200 hospitalized elderly patients were analyzed and the results were as follows: the prevalence of hyperuricemia was 21.0% in elderly men and 15.1% in elderly women. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that BMI ≥ 30 (p = 0.031, OR = 1.1), hypertension (p = 0.019, OR = 1.8), high triglycerides level (p = 0.018, OR = 2.9) and hyperuricemia (p = 0.023, OR = 3.7) were independently associated with MetS. The study concluded that the prevalence of hyperuricemia among hospitalized elderly patients was 21.0% in elderly men and 15.1% in elderly women. There was an independent association between hyperuricemia and metabolic syndrome.

Health Literacy: Prevalence among Elderly Care Givers and Its Impact on the Frequency of Elderly Hospitalization and Elderly Health Related Quality of Life

Caring for the elderly is an extremely lonely and frustrating vigil. The care giver has the responsibility of caring for an elderly one to the myriad decisions on different topics such as diabetes care or cancer treatment. Care givers with low levels of health literacy have less health knowledge, worse management of chronic disease and lower use of preventive services. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of health literacy among elderly care givers and its impact on the frequency of elderly hospitalization and elderly health related quality of life (QOL). The study was carried out on 200 elderly patients and their corresponding care givers. Rapid Estimate of Adult Literacy in Medicine (REALM) and Newest Vital Sign (NVS) were used to assess caregivers’ health literacy. Assessment of the elderly health related QOL was done by the use of short form-12 health survey (SF-12). The results were as followed, in elderly patients;92 were males and 108 were females. The mean elderly age was 69.4 ± 8.8. The mean age of caregivers was 42.1 ± 12.9 years. The prevalence of inadequate health literacy among elderly caregivers was 75.0%. There were significant associations between care givers, health literacy and the frequency of elderly hospitalization (p = 0.001), duration of hospital stay (p = 0.009), and the elderly health related QOL (p = 0.001). The study concluded that inadequate health literacy is a problem among elderly care givers in Egypt. Healthcare professionals must be made aware of this problem, which is to provide simplified educational materials to elderly care givers to maximize elderly care.

The Relation between Apolipoprotein E4 Genotype and Vascular Dementia

Most studies investigating genetics of dementia have focused on Alzheimer’s disease, but little is known about the genetics of vascular dementia (VD). The aim of this study was to identify the association between Apolipoprotein E4 (Apo E4) genotype and VD in cerebrally infarcted patients. The study was conducted on 100 patients with cerebral infarction: 50 had VD (cases) and 50 didn’t have dementia (controls). Diagnosis of VD was based on Mini-Mental State Examination, Cambridge Cognitive Examination (CAMCOG), the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 4th edition criteria for the diagnosis of VD (DSM-IV), Hachinski Ischemic Score, and computed tomography of the brain (CT brain). Apo E4 allele was assessed through DNA genotyping. The study showed that hypertension (p = 0.027, OR = 4.71), diabetes mellitus (p = 0.003, OR = 6.05) and Apo E4 allele (p = 0.017, OR = 13.39) were the independent risk factors of VD among studied participants. The study concluded that cerebrally infarcted patients with Apo E4 genotype are at high risk of developing VD.

Optimal Path Planning for a Remote Sensing Unmanned Ground Vehicle in a Hazardous Indoor Environment

Urban search and rescue robots are playing an increasingly important role during disasters and with their ability to search within hazardous and dangerous environments to assist the first respond teams. Surveying and remote sensing the hazardous areas are two of the urgent needs of the rescue team to identify the risks before the intervention of the emergency teams. With such time-critical missions, the path planning and autonomous navigation of the robot is one of the primary concerns due to the need of fast and feasible path that is comprehensive enough to assess the associated risks. This paper presents a path planning method for navigating an unmanned ground vehicle within in an indoor hazardous area with minimum priori information. The algorithm can be generalized to any given map and is based on probabilistic roadmap path planning method with spiral dynamics optimization algorithm to obtain the optimal navigating path. Simulations of the algorithm are presented in this paper, and the results promising results are illustrated using Matlab and Simulink simulation environments.

Prevalence of Sarcopenia among Nursing Home Older Residents in Cairo, Egypt

Sarcopenia is highly prevalent in community dwelling older adults in many countries;however, the prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing home older residents is not well characterized. The aim of this study is to assess the prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing home older residents in Cairo. Cross sectional study was performed among 357 nursing home residents in Cairo. The European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) recommendation was used for diagnosing sarcopenia. The study showed that the prevalence of sarcopenia in nursing home older residents in Cairo was 17.7%, 22.2% in elderly men and 14.4% in elderly women. Age, underweight and lack of physical activity were found to be associated with sarcopenia among studied participants. The study concluded that sarcopenia is an emerging health problem in nursing home older residents in Cairo.

Dysexecutive Performance of Elderly Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Infection

Chronic infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the most important causes of chronic liver disease, which can progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). It is well established that advanced forms of the disease are accompanied by overt and global cognitive deficits (hepatic encephalopathy) but now there is a growing evidence that the alterations in cerebral function in patients with chronic HCV infection may appear long before the development of severe liver cirrhosis, it has been hypothesized that it is related to a direct effect of HCV on the brain;or the neurotoxic effect of HCV-related systemic inflammation. The purpose of the study was to assess the possible existence of executive dysfunction in chronic HCV infected patients. One hundred elderly patients aged 60 years and above agreed to participate in this study;50 patients were HCV positive (cases) and 50 patients were HCV negative (controls). All participants were subjected to the following: diagnosis of HCV by detection of HCV antibodies using ELISA technique, non-invasive assessment of liver condition, and evaluation of executive functions using 5 neuropsychological tests. The study showed that there was a significant difference between cases and controls regarding 2 executive function tests related to the phonological loop component of working memory among HCV positive patients. The study concluded that chronic HCV infection is accompanied by dysexecutive performance.

Relationship between Traffic Related Air Pollutants and Cognitive Function among Elderly in Egypt

Background: Cognitive impairment is a major health issue particularly with the increasing aging population. There are around 47.5 million dementia cases globally. Traffic air pollution issue is a chief environmental problem principally in the mega cities such as Cairo. Methodology: In a Cross sectional and comparative research study the study subjects recruited involved 200 individuals, categorized into two research groups: 100 from Cairo’s elderly home residents and 100 from EL-Gharbaya’s elderly home residents. Results: Statistical linear regression analysis revealed that fine particulate matter, carbon monoxide, and nitric oxide have a statistically significant impact on cognitive function (p values Conclusions: Traffic related air pollutants were strongly associated with cognitive impairment within elderly population in geriatric home residents in Egypt. Regarding to statistically significant difference in concentration of traffic related air pollutants between urban and rural areas, urban areas were more polluted than rural areas.

Nocturia: Impact on quality of life in an Egyptian adult population

OBJECTIVE: To estimate the effects of nocturia on quality of life (QoL) and to assess the associated effects of sleep problems. Background: Nocturnal urination (nocturia) is such a commonplace occurrence in the lives of many older adults that it is frequently overlooked as a potential cause of sleep disturbance. Methods: The current study was carried out to assess the prevalence of nocturia in elderly males and its impact on sleep quality and QoL. The study enrolled 200 elderly males aged 60 years old and above. All participants were recruited from geriatric clubs in Cairo. All participants in the study were subjected to: comprehensive geriatric assessment, American Urological Association (AUA) score used to measure the severity of nocturia ,assessment of sleep quality using Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) and assessment of QoL using “SF-12 Short Form Health Survey”. Results: The study showed that the prevalence of nocturia in elderly males aged ≥60 years old was 68% with significant association between nocturia and diabetes mellitus, heart failure, stroke, prostatism, recurrent UTI and diuretic use. As regard sleep quality, the current study showed that the prevalence of poor sleep in the studied subjects is 70.5% with significant association between nocturia and poor sleep quality. Nocturia significantly affects sleep latency, sleep efficiency and daytime dysfunction, high significantly affecting sleep disturbance. Also diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease, heart failure, prostatism, recurrent UTI, osteoarthritis and diuretic use are significantly associated with poor sleep quality. As regard quality of life, the current study showed significant association between nocturia and physical and mental health components of HRQL in the univariate analysis. But after multivariate analysis, nocturia is not an independent risk factor for poor quality of life.
