Learning to combine multiple string similarity metrics for effective toponym matching

Several tasks related to geographical information retrieval and to the geographical information sciences involve toponym matching,that is,the problem of matching place names that share a common *** this article,we present the results of a wide-ranging evaluation on the performance of different string similarity metrics over the toponym matching *** also report on experiments involving the usage of supervised machine learning for combining multiple similarity metrics,which has the natural advantage of avoiding the manual tuning of similarity *** with a very large dataset show that the performance differences for the individual similarity metrics are relatively small,and that carefully tuning the similarity threshold is important for achieving good *** methods based on supervised machine learning,particularly when considering ensembles of decision trees,can achieve good results on this task,significantly outperforming the individual similarity metrics.

NDRank: optimised parallel search for weather analogues

Global meteorology data are now widely used in various areas, but one of its applications, weather analogues, still require exhaustive searches on the whole historical data. We present two optimisations for the state-of-the-art weather analogue search algorithms: a parallelization and a heuristic search. the heuristic search (NDRank) limits of the final number of results and does initial searches on a lower resolution dataset to find candidates that, in the second phase, are locally validated. these optimisations were deployed in the Cloud and evaluated with ERA5 data from ECMWF. the proposed parallelization attained speedups close to optimal, and NDRank attains speedups higher than 4. NDRank can be applied to any parallel search, adding similar speedups. A substantial number of executions returned a set of analogues similar to the existing exhaustive search and most of the remaining results presented a numerical value difference lower than 0.1%. the results demonstrate that it is now possible to search for weather analogues in a faster way (even compared with parallel searches) with results with little to no error. Furthermore, NDRank can be applied to existing exhaustive searches, providing faster results with small reduction of the precision of the results.

the effects of low-volume combined training on health-related physical fitness outcomes in active young adults: A controlled clinical trial

the effects of combined training(Ct)on improving general health are well known,however,few studies have investigated the effects of low-volume ***,the aim of this study is to investigate the effects of 6 weeks of lowvolume Ct on body composition,handgrip strength(HGS),cardiorespiratory fitness(CRF)and affective response(AR)to *** healthy,active young adult man(meanSD,[20.061.66]years;[22.232.76]kg/m2)performed either a low-volume Ct(EG,n?9),or maintained a normal life(CG,n?9).the Ct was composed of three resistance exercises followed by a high intensity-interval training(HIIt)on cycle ergometer performed twice a *** measures of the body composition,HGS,maximal oxygen consumption(V_O2max)and AR to exercise were taken at baseline and after training for ***,an ANOVA test of repeated measures and t-test paired samples were used with a p*** results showed that EG improved HGS(pre:[45.6711.84]kg ***:[52.4411.90]kg,pthough,for all measures the body composition had not significant differences between weeks(p>0.05),nevertheless the feeling scale was positive in all weeks and without significant differences between them(p>0.05).Lastly,for active young adults,the low-volume Ct improved HGS,CRF and had a positive outcome in AR,with less volume and time spent than traditional exercise recommendations.

Epidemio-toxicological profile of suicide cases:analysis from a forensic unit in Brazil

the suicide phenomenon involves complex interactions between psychological,biological,cultural and socio-environmental *** study aimed to assess the epidemiological and toxicological profiles of officially confirmed suicide *** study was performed using autopsy reports,forensic anthropology examinations and police summaries of all suicide cases that underwent toxicological analysis at an Official Forensic Laboratory(Minas Gerais,Brazil)in 1 *** sample set was composed of 351 suicide victims,predominantly men(70.32%),most of them were adults between 31 and 64 years old(62.11%),with mixed skin colour(48.89%)and low educational level(66.44%).the most common suicide method was hanging(57.79%),followed by intoxication(30.45%).Most victims presented positive toxicological results(56.41%),especially for the presence of medicines(37.6%),illicit drugs(36.3%)and pesticides(26.1%).Our study corroborated previous data that most suicide victims have low educational *** most common toxicological findings were medicines,especially prescription drugs,followed by illicit drugs and *** hope this study contributes to reflections and planning of preventive suicide programmes,considering the described profiles of victims.

Somatostatin is a neuropeptide and a key regulator of the growth *** Sst encoding genes(sst1 to sst6)have been identified in teleost fish genomes but little is known about their *** present study aimed at replicating the context of the inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)and clarifying the involvement of sst3 in the intestine innate defence barrier in zebrafish *** first established a CRISP/Cas9 sst3 deficient line(Mt)and analysed the morphological and transcriptomic response to 0.4%dextran sulfate sodium(DSS).Alcian blue staining of larval sections 6 days post fertilization showed an increased in acidic mucins in the intestinal bulb and mid-intestine,with a much stronger response in the Mt compared to wild type(Wt).the transcriptomic analysis revealed that Wt and Mt shared enriched gene ontology(GO)terms and pathways linked to catabolism,chondrocyte development,innate immune system,xenobiotic metabolism and oxidative *** contrast,the Wt specific response to DSS was enriched in GO terms and pathways linked to transcription and translation,various developmental processes,regulation of biosynthetic processes,apelin signalling and apoptosis while the Mt specific response included terms and pathways linked to protein metabolism and catabolic processes,extracellular matrix-receptor interaction and proteasome and chondrocyte ***,this study demonstrated that Sst3 deficiency impairs insulin growth factor and adipocytokine signalling exacerbating the inflammatory response to DSS.

Fracture Loci in Sheet Metal Forming: A Review

Fracture in sheet metal forming usually occurs as ductile fracture, rarely as brittle fracture, at the operating temperatures and rates of loading that are typical of real processes in two different modes：（1） tensile and（2） in-plane shear（respectively, the same as modes I and II of fracture mechanics）. the circumstances under which each mode will occur are identified in terms of plastic flow and ductile damage by means of an analytical approach to characterize fracture loci under plane stress conditions that takes anisotropy into consideration. Fracture loci was characterized by means of the fracture forming limit line and by the shear fracture forming limit line in the fracture forming limit diagram. Experiments were performed with single point incremental forming and double-notched test specimens loaded in tension, torsion and in-plane shear give support to the presentation and allow determining the fracture loci of AA1050-H111 aluminium sheets with1 mm thickness. the relation between fracture toughness and the fracture forming limits was also investigated by comparing experimental values of the strains at fracture obtained from a truncated conical part produced by single point incremental forming and from double-notched test specimens loaded in tension.

transpiration and growth responses by Eucalyptus species to progressive soil drying

the regulation of plant transpiration is a key factor affecting transpiration efficiency, growth and adaptation of Eucalyptus species to limited water availability in tropical and subtropical environments. However, few studies have related this trait to the performance of Eucalyptus seedlings and none have investigated the influence of vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on transpiration rates and growth. In this study, the transpiration and growth responses of seedlings of Eucalyptus urophylla (S.t. Blake) and Eucalyptus cloeziana (F. Muell.) to progressive soil water deficits were evaluated under semi-controlled conditions using the fraction of transpirable soil water (FtSW) method. In addition, the influence of VPD on seedling transpiration, development and growth was also investigated. the FtSW threshold ranged from 0.40 to 0.99 for the transpiration rate and from 0.32 to 0.97 for the development and growth variables. Little or no changes in the FtSW threshold were detected in response to changes in atmospheric VPD. Both Eucalyptus species presented a conservation strategy under drought stress. In addition, water-conserving mechanisms during the seedling phase were related to rapid stomatal closure, reduced leaf area, and number of leaves.

Energy-band engineering by 2D MXene doping for high-performance homojunction transistors and logic circuits

the homojunction based on ti_(3)C_(2)t_(x) MXene-doped In_(2)O_(3) and indium oxide as the channel layer is real-ized in high-performance metal oxide thin film transistors(tFts).Doping of MXene into In_(2)O_(3) results in n-type semiconductor behavior,realizing tunable work function of In_(2)O_(3) from 5.11 to 4.79 eV as MXene content increases from 0 to 2 wt.%.MXene-doped In_(2)O_(3)-based homojunction tFt presents optimal per-formance with electron mobilities of greater than 27.10 cm^(2)/(V s)at 240°C,far exceeding the maximum mobility of 3.91 cm^(2)/(V s)for single-layer In_(2)O_(3)*** improved performance originates from boosting of a two-dimensional electron gas(2DEG)formed at carefully engineered In_(2)O_(3)/MXene-doped In_(2)O_(3)ox-ide homojunction ***,the transformation in conduction mechanism leads to better stability of MXene-doped In_(2)O_(3) homojunction devices compared to undoped bilayer In_(2)O_(3).Low-frequency noise further illustrates that doping MXene into In_(2)O_(3) helps to reduce the device trap density,demonstrating excellent electrical performance.A resistor-loaded unipolar inverter based on In_(2)O_(3)/0.5%MXene-In_(2)O_(3)tFt has demonstrated full swing characteristics and a high gain of *** effective doping of MXene into constructed homojunction tFts not only contributes to improved stability,but also provides an ef-fective strategy for designing novel homojunction tFts for low-cost oxide-based electronics.
