Hydrous pyrolysis(HP)practiced on type-Ⅱ kerogen-bearing oil shale samples from the Sargelu Formation in the Ghali-Kuh Area,western Iran,using a specially designed apparatus was performed at different temperatures(250-350℃),with hydrocarbon generation evaluated at each *** comparison,the samples subjected to Rock-Eval pyrolysis before proceeding to HP resulted in t_(max)=418℃,HI=102,and tOC=4.33%,indicating immaturity and hence remarkable hydrocarbon(especially oil)generation potential,making them appropriate for ***,the samples were deposited in a low-energy reductive marine environment,with maximum oil and gas generation(739 mg and 348 mg out of50 g of rock sample,respectively)observed at 330℃ and 350℃,*** oil generated at 330℃ was subjected to gas chromatography(GC)and isotopic analyses to assess hydrocarbon quality and *** hydrocarbon generation data was devised to estimate kinetic indices of the Arrhenius equation and to investigate the gas-oil ratio(GOR)and overall conversion *** on the producible hydrocarbon quantity and quality,the findings contribute to the economic assessment of oil shales across the study *** developed kinetic model indicates the history of hydrocarbon generation and organic matter(OM)maturity.

BACKGROUND： It is generally believed that the mechanism by which heat shock protein-70 （HSP70） protects cells is related to its effectiveness in maintaining the normal stereochemical structure of intracellular proteins, and in participating in the process of cell apoptosis. Whether electro-acupuncture participates in HSP70 expression and produces neuroprotective effects remain unclear. OBJECtIVE： this study aimed at detecting HSP70 expression after electro-acupuncture in rats with transected spinal cord, in order to further validate the mechanism of electro-acupuncture-induced effects in the treatment of spinal cord injury. DESIGN： A controlled observational experiment. SEttING： Shanghai University of traditional Chinese Medicine and toho University, School of Medicine. MAtERIALS： Seventy adult male Sprague-Dawley rats of SPF grade, weighing 200± 20 g, were provided by the Laboratory Animal Center of Shanghai University of traditional Chinese Medicine, with permission No. SYXK （hu） 2004 - 2005. the animals were handled in accordance with the requests from Animal Ethics Committees for guidance. A G6805-2 multiple purpose treatment machine was used （Shanghai Medical Instruments High-tech Co.,Ltd., Shanghai, China）. MEtHODS： this study was carried out in the state level laboratories of Shanghai University of traditional Chinese Medicine and toho University, School of Medicine between January 2005 and July 2007. the rats were randomly divided into the electro-acupuncture treated group, which received electro-acupuncture treatment in addition to spinal cord surgery and the control group, which received only spinal cord surgery, with 35 rats in each group. All the rats underwent the same surgery consisting of spinal cord transection at the t10 level. If the spinal cord was completely transected and the two posterior limbs were completely paralyzed, then the surgery was considered successful and the animal was kept for further analysis and testing. Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy in t2N0 Glottic Cancer: Does Chemotherapy Improve Local Control?

Purpose: to compare concurrent chemoradiotherapy with radiotherapy in t2N0 glottic cancer. Materials and Methods: thirty nine patients were treated with radiotherapy alone. In detail, 30 patients treated between 1985 and 1995, and 9 patients treated between 1995 and 2010 were included in the radiotherapy alone group. Between 1995 and 2010, 22 patients were treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Conventional fractionation was applied in 19 patients in the radiotherapy group and in 1 patient in the chemoradiotherapy group. Hyperfractionation was applied to 20 patients in the radiotherapy group and to 21 patients in the chemoradiotherapy group. total dose ranged from 64 Gy to 76.8 Gy in the radiotherapy group and from 66 Gy to 76.8 Gy in the chemoradiotherapy group. Cisplatin or carboplatin was administered in the chemoradiotherapy group. Results: there were no differences in the 5-year preservation rate of vocal function (82.8% vs 87.4%, p = 0.652), local control rate (77.2% vs 92.9%, p = 0.163), and 5-year overall survival rate (86.4% vs 90.2%, p = 0.497) between the radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy groups. Conclusion: In t2N0 glottic cancer, no difference was observed between radiotherapy alone and concurrent chemoradiotherapy groups.

Purpose: to evaluate quantitatively, by means of ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM), changes in the anterior segment con-figuration, including the ciliary processes, induced by cataract surgery in eyes with primary angle closure. Design: Retrospective interventional case series. Participants: thirty-one eyes of 31 patients with primary angle closure or primary angle-closure glaucoma were treated with cataract surgery. Before cataract surgery, 10 eyes had been treated with laser peripheral iridotomy, and 1 with laser peripheral iridoplasty. Methods: Configuration of the anterior chamber was examined by means of UBM before and at 3 months after cataract surgery. Main Outcome Measures: Using UBM, anterior chamber depth (ACD), angle opening distance at points 500 μ m from the scleral spur (AOD500), and trabecular-ciliary process distance (tCPD) were measured. Results: Not only ACD and AOD500, but also tCPD, increased significantly after cataract surgery, compared with measurements obtained before surgery (P toperative AOD500 was correlated significantly with postoperative tCPD (r=0.72, P th the amount of change of tCPD caused by cataract surgery (▲ tCPD)(r=0.52, P taract surgery attenuated anterior positioning of the ciliary processes in eyes with primary angle closure,concomitant with significant widening of the angle. Cataract surgery resulted in not only complete dissolution of lens volume and pupillary block, but also attenuation of the anterior positioning of the ciliary processes, all of which contributed to postoperative widening of the anglein eyes with primary angle closure.

Purpose. We evaluated the use of positron emission tomography (PEt) with fluorine- 18- labeled fluoro- 2- deoxy- d- glucose (FDG) in follow- up study after radiation therapy in patients with uterine cervical carcinoma. Materials and methods. thirty- two studies in 25 patients were reviewed. twenty patients were treated with external beam irradiation and intracavitary brachytherapy, and five with irradiation following initial surgery. time frominitial treatment to FDG- PEt was 23.3 (5.2- 88.0) months. Rationale for FDG- PEt was the presence of symptoms in 6 patients, abnormal serum tumor marker values in 13, abnormal lesions on other diagnostic imaging modalities in 19, and patient request in 2. On visualization of a lesion, the maximum standardized uptake value (maxSUV) of the lesion was calculated, and values over 2.0 were classified as FDG- positive. Maximum tumor diameter and tumor volume in the corresponding disease were estimated by computed tomography (Ct) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Results. Sensitivity and specificity of FDG- PEt in the detection of recurrent disease were 91.5% (43/47) and 57.1% (4/7), respectively. Four false negative findings were seen for small lung metastases having a volume less than 1 cm3. three false- positive cases were a localized pneumonitis, a benign pubic bone fracture,and a fibrosis after interstitial brachytherapy. Sensitivity for extrapelvic lymph node metastases was extremely high (100% ); in contrast, sensitivity and specificity for lung and bone lesions were 75.0% (12/16) and 33.3% (1/3), respectively. Regarding tumor volume measurement, good correlation between maxSUV on FDG- PEt and tumor volume was obtained (lung metastases, P = 0.03; extrapelvic nodes, P thin this study, all corresponding lesions over 1 cm3 showed a maxSUV value greater than 2.0. Conclusion. FDG- PEt is a useful tool for the detection of extrapelvic lesions during the follow- up period after radiation therapy for cervical cancer. t

AIM:to determine the effect of oral sumatriptan on gastric emptying using a continuous 13 C breath test(BreathID system).MEtHODS:ten healthy male volunteers participated in this randomized,2-way crossover *** subjects fasted overnight and were randomly assigned to receive a test meal(200 kcal/200 mL) 30 min after pre-medication with sumatriptan 50 mg(sumatriptan condition),or the test meal alone(control condition).Gastric emptying was monitored for 4 h after administration of the test meal by the 13 C-acetic acid breath test performed continually using the BreathID ***,using Oridion Research Software(β version),the time taken for emptying of 50% of the labeled meal(t 1/2) similar to the scintigraphy lag time for 10% emptying of the labeled meal(t lag),the gastric emptying coefficient(GEC),and the regression-estimated constants(β and κ) were *** statistical significance of any differences in the parameters were analyzed using Wilcoxon's signed-rank ***:In the sumatriptan condition,significant differences compared with the control condition were found in t 1/2 [median 131.84 min(range,103.13-168.70) vs 120.27 min(89.61-138.25);P = 0.0016],t lag [median 80.085 min(59.23-125.89) vs 61.11 min(39.86-87.05);P = 0.0125],and β [median 2.3374(1.6407-3.8209) vs 2.0847(1.4755-2.9269);P = 0.0284].there were no significant differences in the GEC or κ between the 2 ***:this study showed that oral sumatriptan significantly delayed gastric emptying of a liquid meal.

It has been reported recently that small undifferentiated intramucosal early gastric cancer(EGC) thout any lymphovascular involvement or ulcerative findings had virtually no risk of lymph-node(LN) ***,the indications for endoscopic resection were expanded to include such undifferentiated EGC *** describe herein a case of a small undifferentiated intramucosal EGC thout lymphovascular involvement or ulcerative findings that involved lymph-node metastasis.A 57-year-old female underwent pylorus preserving gastrectomy as standard treatment for an undifferentiated EGC 15 mm in size without any ulcerative *** surgical specimen revealed a signet-ring cell carcinoma with a moderately to poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma limited to the mucosa that was 15 mm in size with no lymphovascular involvement or ulcerative *** case involved LN metastasis,however,and the lesion was diagnosed as pathological stage ⅡA(t1N2M0) according to the Japanese Classification of Gastric Carcinoma.
