Due to the accumulation of an enormous amount of plastic waste from municipal and industrial sources in landfills,landfill leachate is becoming a significant reservoir of *** release of microplastics from landfill leachate into the environment can have undesirable effects on humans and *** study provides the state of the science regarding the source,detection,occurrence,and remediation of microplastics in landfill leachate based on a comprehensive review of the scientific literature,mostly in the recent *** waste and wastewater treatment residue are the primary sources of microplastics in landfill *** concentration in raw and treated landfill leachate varied between 0-382 and 0-2.7 items L^(−1).Microplastics in raw landfill leachate are largely attributable to local plastic waste production and solid waste management ***,polystyrene,and polypropylene are the most prevalent microplastic polymers in landfill *** though the colors of microplastics are primarily determined by their parent plastic waste,the predominance of light-colored microplastics in landfill leachate indicates long-term *** identified morphologies of microplastics in leachate from all published sources contain fiber and fragments the *** on the treatment method,leachate treatment processes can achieve microplastic removal rates between 3%and 100%.The review also provides unique perspectives on microplastics in landfill leachate in terms of remediation,final disposal,fate and transport among engineering systems,and source reduction,*** landfill-wastewater treatment plant loop and bioreactor landfills present unique difficulties and opportunities for managing microplastics induced by landfill leachate.

A bipolar verdazyl radical for a symmetric all-organic redox flow-type battery

Pharmacogenomics of Cisplatin Sensitivity in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Cisplatin, a platinum-based chemotherapeutic drug, has been used for over 30 years in a wide variety of cancers with varying degrees of success. In particular, cisplatin has been used to treat late stage non-small cell lung cancer （NSCLC） as the standard of care. However, therapeutic outcomes vary from patient to patient. Considerable efforts have been invested to identify biomark- ers that can be used to predict cisplatin sensitivity in NSCLC. Here we reviewed current evidence for cisplatin sensitivity biomarkers in NSCLC. We focused on several key pathways, including nucleotide excision repair, drug transport and metabolism. Both expression and germline DNA variation were evaluated in these key pathways. Current evidence suggests that cisplatin-based treatment could be improved by the use of these biomarkers.

Clinical implications of microRNAs in liver cancer stem cells

The prognosis of patients diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is often dismal, mainly due to late presentation, high recurrence rate, and frequent resistance to chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Accumulating evidence on the differential microRNA (miRNA) expression patterns between non-tumor and HCC tissues or between liver cancer stem cells (CSCs) and non-CSC subsets and the significant clinical implications of these differences suggest that miRNAs are a promising, non-invasive marker for the prognosis and diagnosis of the disease. This perspective article summarizes the current knowledge of miRNAs in liver CSCs and highlights the need for further investigations of the role of miRNAs in regulating liver CSC subsets for possible future clinical applications.

Robotic-assisted versus laparoscopic repair of type II, III and IV hiatal hernias: A retrospective study comparing adverse outcomes

Evolution of Siderian j.venile crust to Rhyacian high Ba-Sr magmatism in the Mineiro Belt, southern S?o Francisco Craton

Plutonic rocks from the Mineiro Belt, Brazil record a delayed onset of the transition from TTG to sanukitoid-type magmatism（high Ba-Sr）, starting during the Siderian magmatic lull when little j.venile magma was added to the continental crust. Rocks mostly belong to the calc-alkaline series, meta-to peraluminous and originally ＂Ⅰ-type＂,meaning that oxidized magmas were formed by partial melting of subducted material. The temporal distribution and apparent secular changes of the magmas are consistent with the onset of subduction-driven plate tectonics due to an increase of the subduction angle and opening of the mantle wedge. New isotopic analyses（Sm-Nd whole rock and Lu-Hf in zircon）corroborate the restricted j.venile nature of the Mineiro Belt and confirm the genetic link between the Lagoa Dourada Suite,a rare ca. 2350 Ma high-Al tonalite-trondhj.mite magmatic event, and the sanukitoid-type ca. 2130 Ma Alto Maranhao Suite. U-Pb dating of zircon and titanite constrain the crystallisation history of plutonic bodies; coupled with maj.r and trace element analyses of the host rocks, they distinguish evolutionary trends in the Mineiro Belt. Several plutons in the region have ages close to 2130 Ma but are distinguished by the lower concentration of compatible elements in the j.venile high Ba-Sr suite.

Higher testosterone levels are associated with increased highdensity lipoprotein cholesterol in men with cardiovascular disease： results from the Massachusetts Male Aging Study

Aim： To study the relationship between circulating androgens （total testosterone [TT], free testosterone [IT] and dihydrotestosterone [DHT]） and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol （HDL-C） in men with and without cardiovascular disease （CVD）. Methods： Cross-sectional analyses included 1 661 baseline samples from the Massachusetts Male Aging Study （MMAS）, a population-based cohort of men ages 40-70 years. Serum hormones were measured by radioimmunoassay and HDL-C was determined following precipitation of the lower density lipoproteins. CVD was determined by self-report. Analyses were performed using multiple linear regression. Results： TT and HDL-C were positively correlated in the entire sample （r = 0.11, P = 0.0001）. After adj.sting for confounders, we found this relationship was mostly limited to the 209 men with CVD. Among men with CVD, TT （P = 0.0004）, iT （P = 0.0172） and DHT （P = 0.0128） were all positively correlated with HDL-C, whereas in men without CVD only TT correlated with HDL-C （P = 0.0099）. Conclusion： Our results suggest that if androgens contribute to CVD in middle-aged men, the effect is not related to a suppressive effect of endogenous T on HDL-C. （Asian j.ndrol 2008 Mar; 10： 193-200）
