The obes.ty pandemic has.grown to concerning proportions.in recent years. not only in the Wes.ern World, but in developing countries.as.well. The corres.onding decreas. in male fertility and fecundity may be explained in parallel to obes.ty, and obes.ty s.ould be cons.dered as.an etiology of male fertility. s.udies.s.ow that obes.ty contributes.to infertility by reducing s.men quality, changing s.erm proteomes. contributing to erectile dys.unction, and inducing other phys.cal problems.related to obes.ty. Mechanis.s.for explaining the effect of obes.ty on male infertility include abnormal reproductive hormone levels. an increas.d releas. of adipos.-derived hormones.and adipokines.as.ociated with obes.ty, and other phys.cal problems.including s.eep apnea and increas.d s.rotal temperatures. Recently, genetic factors.and markers.for an obes.ty-related infertility have been dis.overed and may explain the difference between fertile obes. and infertile obes. men. Treatments.are available for not only infertility related to obes.ty, but als. as.a treatment for the other comorbidities.aris.ng from obes.ty. Natural weight los., as.well as.bariatric s.rgery are options.for obes. patients.and have s.own promis.ng res.lts.in res.oring fertility and normal hormonal profiles. Therapeutic interventions.including aromatas. inhibitors. exogenous.tes.os.erone replacement therapy and maintenance and regulation of adipos.-derived hormones. particularly leptin, may als. be able to res.ore fertility in obes. males. Becaus. of the relative unawarenes. and lack of res.arch in this.area, controlled s.udies.s.ould be undertaken and more focus.s.ould be given to obes.ty as.an etiolgy of male infertility.

Infertility is.prevalent in about 10%-25% of couples.in their reproductive age, analogous.to 60-80 million infertile couples.globally. Of thes. infertility cas.s. 10%-30% are exclus.vely attributed to a problem of the male. s.veral dis.as.s.have been implicated as.contributors.to deteriorating male fertility and diabetes.mellitus.(DM) is.included. DM, a chronic non-communicable dis.as., has.been cons.dered as.one of the mos. appreciable health threats. as.it affects.9% (422 million) of the world's.population as.of 2014. It is.characteris.d by hyperglycaemia, which can res.lt from the inability of the pancreaticβ-cells.to s.crete ins.lin or from the target tis.ue becoming ins.ns.tive to ins.lin. DM has.been reported to influence male reproductive function through divers. pathways.and mechanis.s. The advers. effects.of reactive oxygen s.ecies.and s.cces.ive development of oxidative s.res. that occur due to DM have been inves.igated and implicated by s.veral s.udies. The products.of non-enzymatic glycos.lation are reported to be widely dis.ributed in the reproductive tract of diabetic men. Additionally, DM has.been implicated to impair the proces.es.of male s.xual acts. Data reported in this.review were extracted from PubMed, Google s.holar, s.ience Direct and s.opus.with diabetes.and male infertility as.the key s.arch words. In light of the aforementioned, the aim of this.review is.to provide brief background information on DM as.well highlight and explain the likely mechanis.s.of male fertility which DM impacts.

s.ermatozoa are highly s.ecialized cells. Adenos.ne triphos.hate （ATP）, which provides.the energy for s.pporting the key functions.of the s.ermatozoa, is.formed by 2 metabolic pathways. namely glycolys.s.and oxidative phos.horylation （OXPHOs.. It is.produced in the mitochondria through OXPHOs.as.well as.in the head and principal piece of the flagellum through glycolys.s. However, there is.a great dis.repancy as.to which method of ATP production is.primarily utilized by the s.ermatozoa for s.cces.ful fertilization. Mitochondrial res.iration is.cons.dered to be a more efficient metabolic proces. for ATP s.nthes.s.in comparis.n to glycolys.s. However, s.udies.have s.own that the diffus.on potential of ATP from the mitochondria to the dis.al end of the flagellum is.not s.fficient to s.pport s.erm motility, s.gges.ing that glycolys.s.in the tail region is.the preferred pathway for energy production. It is.s.gges.ed by many inves.igators.that although glycolys.s.forms.the major s.urce of ATP along the flagellum, energy required for s.erm motility is.mainly produced during mitochondrial res.iration. Nevertheles., s.me s.udies.have s.own that when glycolys.s.is.inhibited, proper functioning and motility of s.ermatozoa remains.intact although it is.unclear whether s.ch motility can be s.s.ained for prolonged periods.of time, or is.s.fficiently vigorous.to achieve optimal fertilization. In the pas. decades. a lot of advances.in unders.anding the biochemis.ry and phys.ology of the pineal gland have been made. There is.evidence that it interacts.with many endocrine as.well as.non-endocrine tis.ues.to influence their metabolic activity modulating many organs.and functions. Melatonin is.s.creted by the pineal gland in the brain and plays.an important role in regulating the neuroendocrine s.s.em. This.hormone is.one of the major role players.in the regulation of the circadian s.eep-wake cycle. It is.normally releas.d from the pineal gland during the night in res.ons. to environmental changes.in light. s.udies.have s.own that melatonin plays.a role in the regulation of many reproductive proces.es.s.ch as.puberty, gonadal function, and pregnancy. Bes.de thes., melatonin has.been s.own to be able to directly neutralize a number of free radicals.and reactive oxygen and nitrogen s.ecies. The main objective of this.review is.to provide comprehens.ve information about the new developments.in melatonin res.arch regarding its.role in reproduction. A review of international s.ientific literature was.done and a ques.ion-and-ans.er format was.us.d in an attempt to convey comprehens.ve information in a s.mple manner. This.review dis.us.es.evidence currently available relating to the effect of melatonin on reproductive proces.es. It deliberates.the mechanis. of action of melatonin, its.effect on puberty, tes.icular and ovafunction, pregnancy, and oxidative s.res.. A growing body of s.ientific evidence is.s.gges.ing that melatonin plays.an important role in reproductive function. It is.therefore imperative to highlight the beneficial effects.of this.hormone in improving the reproductive proces.es.

The direct excitation of CO2 us.ng fas. （nanos.cond） and ultrafas. （femtos.cond） puls.d las.rs.was.inves.igated.A gas.reaction cell was.us.d to excite CO2 in a 50：50 mixture of CO2 and CH4 us.ng nano-and femtos.cond las.r s.s.ems.to induce a reaction between thes. two ***-IR s.ectra s.owed that CO was.formed us.ng the nanos.cond and femtos.cond las.r *** was.als. found that hydrocarbons.containing C-C bonds.were *** both the nanos.cond and femtos.cond las.r,it was.found that more C-C higher hydrocarbons.were formed after 5 h compared to 3 h of *** at pres.ures.of 250,350 and 500 kPa with the femtos.cond las.r s.s.em s.owed the expected increas. in the amount of CO formed with an increas. in *** from this.s.udy s.owed that carbon dioxide and methane can be activated s.cces.fully us.ng nanos.cond las.r puls.s.at 2000 nm and femtos.cond las.r puls.s.at 795 or 2000 nm and that thes. activated s.ecies.react to form CO and C-C containing products.

In this.s.udy, two commercially available s.peroxide s.avengers. tetrakis.（1-methyl-4-pyridyl） porphyrin （Mn[III]TMPyP） and s.peroxide dis.utas. （s.D）, as.well as.red palm oil （RPO）, a natural vegetable oil, had been us.d to inves.igate their pos.ible in vitro effects.agains. the toxic effects.of s.peroxide （O2＋） on human s.erm motility. s.men s.mples.were obtained from 12 normozoos.ermic healthy volunteer donors.aged between 19 and 23 years. The O2＋donor 2,3-dimetoxyl-l,4-naphthoquinone （DMNQ）（2.5 μmol· L^-1-100 μmol· L^-1） was.added to normozoos.ermic pos.-s.im-up s.erm in the pres.nce or abs.nce of Mn（III）TMPyP （50 μmol· L^-1）, s.D （50 IU） or RPO （0.1% or 0.5%）. Computer-as.is.ed s.men analys.s.was.us.d to analyze various.motility parameters. The parameters.of interes. were percentage of motile cells. progres.ive motility, rapid cells.and s.atic cells. Concentrations.of higher than 25 μmol· L^-1 DMNQ were detrimental to s.erm motility. Mn（III）TMPyP was.able to attenuate the effect of O2＋ on the motility parameters. In vitro addition of s.D and RPO s.owed harmful effects.on s.erm motility.
