Numerical simulation on the influence of plant root morphology on shear strength in the sandy soil,Northwest China

Serious riverbank erosion,caused by scouring and soil siltation on the bank slope in the lower reaches of the Tarim River,Northwest China urgently requires a *** roots play an important role in enhancing soil shear strength on the slopes to maintain slope soils,but the extent of enhancement of soil shear strength by different root distribution patterns is *** study used a combination of indoor experiments and numerical simulation to investigate the effects of varying plant root morphologies on the shear strength of the sandy soil in the Tarim *** results showed that:(1)by counting the root morphology of dominant vegetation on the bank slope,we summarized the root morphology of dominant vegetation along the coast as vertical,horizontal,and claw type;(2)the shear strength of root-soil composites(RSCs)was significantly higher than that of remolded soil,and the presence of root system made the strain-softening of soil body significantly weakened so that RSCs had better mechanical properties;and(3)compared with the lateral roots,the average particle contact degree of vertical root system was higher,and the transition zone of shear strength was more ***,vegetation with vertical root system had the best effect on soil protection and slope *** results of this study have important guiding significance for prevention and control of soil erosion in the Tarim River basin,the restoration of riparian ecosystems,and the planning of water conservancy projects.

Influence of construction interfaces on dynamic characteristics of roller compacted concrete dams

To study the influence of construction interfaces on dynamic characteristics of roller compacted concrete dams(RCCDs),mechanical properties of construction interfaces are firstly analyzed. Then, the viscous-spring artificial boundary(VSAB) is adopted to simulate the radiation damping of their infinite foundations, and based on the Marc software, a simplified seismic motion input method is presented by the equivalent nodal loads. Finally, based on the practical engineering of a RCC gravity dam, effects of radiation damping and construction interfaces on the dynamic characteristics of dams are investigated in detail. Analysis results show that dynamic response of the RCC gravity dam significantly reduces about 25% when the radiation damping of infinite foundation is considered. Hot interfaces and the normal cold interfaces have little influence on the dynamic response of the RCC gravity ***, nonlinear fracture along the cold interfaces at the dam heel will occur under the designed earthquake if the cold interfaces are combined poorly. Therefore, to avoid the fractures along the construction interfaces under the potential super earthquakes,combination quality of the RCC layers should be significantly ensured.

Currently,more than ten ultrahigh arch dams have been constructed or are being constructed in *** control is essential to long-term operation of these *** study employed the flexibility coefficient and plastic complementary energy norm to assess the structural safety of arch dams.A comprehensive analysis was conducted,focusing on differences among conventional methods in characterizing the structural behavior of the Xiaowan arch dam in ***,the spatiotemporal characteristics of the measured performance of the Xiaowan dam were explored,including periodicity,convergence,and time-effect *** findings revealed the governing mechanism of main ***,a heterogeneous spatial panel vector model was developed,considering both common factors and specific factors affecting the safety and performance of arch *** model aims to comprehensively illustrate spatial heterogeneity between the entire structure and local regions,introducing a specific effect quantity to characterize local deformation ***,the proposed model was applied to the Xiaowan arch dam,accurately quantifying the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of dam ***,the spatiotemporal distri-bution characteristics of environmental load effects on different parts of the dam were reasonably *** of the model prediction enhances its credibility,leading to the formulation of health diagnosis criteria for future long-term operation of the Xiaowan *** findings not only enhance the predictive ability and timely control of ultrahigh arch dams'performance but also provide a crucial basis for assessing the effectiveness of engineering treatment measures.

The thermomechanical coupling of rocks refers to the interaction between the mechanical and thermodynamic behaviors of rocks induced by temperature *** study of this coupling interaction is essential for understanding the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of the surrounding rocks in underground *** this study,an improved temperature-dependent linear parallel bond model is introduced under the framework of a particle flow simulation.A series of numerical thermomechanical coupling tests are then conducted to calibrate the micro-parameters of the proposed model by considering the mechanical behavior of the rock under different thermomechanical *** agreement between the numerical results and experimental data are obtained,particularly in terms of the compression,tension,and elastic responses of *** this improved model,the thermodynamic response and underlying cracking behavior of a deep-buried tunnel under different thermal loading conditions are investigated and discussed in detail.

BACKGROUND Myeloid neoplasm(MN)with eosinophilia and rearrangement of platelet-derived growth factor receptor beta(PDGFRB)shows a good therapeutic response to imatinib in *** is rarely found in children,and the efficacy of imatinib on pediatric patients remain *** SUMMARY We report 2 pediatric cases diagnosed with MN with eosinophilia and PDGFRB rearrangement who were treated with *** 1 was a 1-year-old girl admitted to the hospital because of“abdominal distension with hyperleukocytosis for 3 mo”.She had leukocytosis,anemia,and eosinophilia(the absolute eosinophil count(AEC)was 8960/μL),and her fluorescence in situ hybridization(FISH)test revealed that PDGFRB rearrangement was detected in 70%of 500 interphase *** 2 was a 2-year-old girl admitted to the hospital because of“recurrent fever and rashes for 1 mo”.Her blood cell count showed an AEC of 3540/μ*** FISH test revealed that PDGFRB rearrangement was detected in 71%of 500 interphase *** patients were diagnosed as MN with eosinophilia and PDGFRB *** was added into their treatment *** expected,complete hematologic remission was achieved after 1 mo of treatment,and symptoms *** Although MN with eosinophilia and PDGFRB rearrangement usually occurs in adults,it can be found in *** therapeutic benefits of imatinib in these 2 pediatric patients were consistent with its reported effects in adult patients.

Effects of Ocean Particles on the Upwelling Radiance and Polarized Radiance in the Atmosphere–Ocean System

Based on a vector radiative transfer model of the atmosphere–ocean system,the influence of oceanic components on radiation processes,including polarization effects,was investigated in the wavelength region ranging from 0.380 to 0.865 μ*** components considered were phytoplankton,inorganic suspended material（sediment）,and colored,dissolved organic *** to their important roles in oceanic radiation processes,the sensitivity of the bidirectional reflectance to the rough ocean surface,represented by the wind velocity 10 m above the ocean surface,and aerosol,were taken into *** results demonstrated that both radiance and polarized radiance just below the ocean surface were sensitive to the change of the concentrations of the considered components,while the dependence of polarized radiance on the observation geometry was more sensitive than *** differences in the specular plane existed between the impacts of the phytoplankton and sediment on the degree of polarization just above the ocean surface at 670 *** the top of the atmosphere（TOA）,polarization was relatively insensitive to changing concentrations of ocean particles at longer ***,the radiance at the TOA in the solar plane was more sensitive to the aerosol optical thickness than wind *** contrast,wind velocity strongly influenced the radiance at the TOA in the sun glint region,while the polarization degree showed less dependence in that ***,a nonlinear optimal inversion method was proposed to simultaneously retrieve the aerosol and wind velocity using radiance measurement.

Failure mechanism and stability analysis of the Zhenggang landslide in Yunnan Province of China using 3D particle flow code simulation

Based on the principle of 3D particle flow code,a numerical landslide run-out model is presented to simulate the failure process of the Zhenggang landslide(in southwestern China) under the effect of water after a *** relationship between the micro-mechanical parameters and the macro-shear strength of the grain material is determined through numerical *** the rainfall effect is considered in numerical simulations and rain-induced sliding processes are performed,which help us to discuss the mechanism of deformation and failure of this landslide together with field *** shows the Zhenggang landslide would most likely be activated in Zone I and would gain momentum in Zone *** order to prevent the potential disaster,a tailing dam is advised to be designed about 175 m downstream from the current landslide boundary of Zone *** by field observations,the presented landslide model can reflect the failure mechanism after *** can also provide a method to predict the potential disaster and draft disaster prevention measures.

Effects of moxibustion on Treg cells in sarcoma microenvironment

Objective:To investigate the therapeutic effect of moxibustion on sarcomas from mesenchymal tissues,which have a low response rate to chemotherapy and ***:S180 sarcoma cell line was inoculated in C57 BL/6 mice to form transplanted *** therapy was directly applied at the transplanted tumor sites,at a distance of 3.0 cm,10 min per session,till skin temperature reached 45°C,once a day,for 14 consecutive days of *** the mice were killed,serum was collected and used to detect concentrations of interleukin-10(IL-10),transforming growth factor-b1(TGF-b1),IL-4 and interferon-c(IFN-c)by Luminex liquid suspension *** numbers of Treg^(^(+) )T cells and CD4^(+) CD25^(+) Forkhead Box P3(Foxp3)^(+) T cells were detected by flow *** in situ hybridization was used to analyze the changes of CD4,CD8,Foxp3 and TGF-b1 in the tumor microenvironment(TME).Results:Weight of S180 transplanted tumor in the control group was(2.03±0.54)g,and that in the moxibustion group was(1.27±0.29)g,which was statistically different(P=0.023).The mean value of Foxp3^(+) T cells in the normal group was 2.01%,which increased to 3.63%after the formation of transplanted tumor,and decreased to 1.48%after moxibustion *** moxibustion group also had reduced numbers of CD4^(+) CD25^(+) Foxp3^(+) T cells in the spleen of mice with transplanted *** concentrations of IL-10,TGF-b1 and IL-4 decreased in the serum of mice with transplanted tumor,while the concentration of IFN-c *** was associated with downregulation in expression of Foxp3,IL-10 and TGF-b1 genes in the transplanted tumor,and increases in the gene expression of CD4^(+) T cells and CD8^(+) T cells in the ***:Moxibustion may have therapeutic effects on sarcomas by reducing the number of Treg cells in the blood and controlling the infiltration of Treg cells in the TME.

Stress wave propagation and incompatible deformation mechanisms in rock discontinuity interfaces in deep-buried tunnels

Complex weak structural planes and fault zones induce significant heterogeneity,discontinuity,and nonlinear characteristics of a rock *** an earthquake occurs,these characteristics lead to extremely complex seismic wave propagation and vibrational behaviors and thus pose a huge threat to the safety and stability of deep buried *** investigate the wave propagation in a rock mass with different structural planes and fault zones,this study first introduced the theory of elastic wave propagation and elastodynamic principles and used the Zoeppritz equation to describe wave field decomposition and develop a seismic wave response model ***,a physical wave propagation model was constructed to investigate seismic waves passing through a fault,and dynamic damage was analyzed by using shaking table ***,stress wave attenuation and dynamic incompatible deformation mechanisms in a rock mass with fault zones were *** results indicate that under the action of weak structural planes,stress waves appear as a complex wave field decomposition *** a stress wave spreads to a weak structural plane,its scattering may transform into a tensile wave,generating tensile stress and destabilizing the rock mass;wave dynamic energy is absorbed by a low-strength rock through wave scattering,which significantly weakens the seismic *** propagation accelerates the initiation and expansion of internal defects in the rock mass and leads to a dynamic incompatible *** is one of the main causes for large deformation and even instability within rock *** findings provide an important reference and guide with respect to stability analysis of rock mass with weak structural planes and fault zones.
