OH and O radicals production in atmospheric pressure air/Ar/H_2O gliding arc discharge plasma jet

Atmospheric pressure air/Ar/H_2O gliding arc discharge plasma is produced by a pulsed dc power supply. An optical emission spectroscopic（OES） diagnostic technique is used for the characterization of plasmas and for identifications of OH and O radicals along with other species in the plasmas. The OES diagnostic technique reveals the excitation Tx？≈？5550–9000 K, rotational Tr？≈？1350–2700 K and gas Tg？≈？850–1600 K temperatures, and electron density n？（1.1-1.9） ′101 4 cm^（-3） e under different experimental conditions. The production and destruction of OH and O radicals are investigated as functions of applied voltage and air flow rate. Relative intensities of OH and O radicals indicate that their production rates are increased with increasing Ar content in the gas mixture and applied voltage. nereveals that the higher densities of OH and O radicals are produced in the discharge due to more effective electron impact dissociation of H_2O and O_2 molecules caused by higher kinetic energies as gained by electrons from the enhanced electric field as well as by enhanced n *** productions of OH and O are decreasing with increasing air flow rate due to removal of Joule heat from the discharge region but enhanced air flow rate significantly modifies discharge maintenance properties. Besides, Tgsignificantly reduces with the enhanced air flow rate. This investigation reveals that Ar plays a significant role in the production of OH and O radicals.

Instantaneous frequency and wave mode identification in a magnetosheath using few spatial points

Observational data such as those obtained from the magnetosheath in the downstream of Earth＇s bow shock have waveforms that differ from those of sinusoidal signals. In practice, they are not even aggregates of sinusoidal signals. Therefore, the frequency decomposition for the data requires technique that will account for the time-varying features of the data that will lead to deduction of physical meaning of the observations. The combination of empirical mode decompo- sition （EMD） and Hilbert transform has been used for extracting the various contributing oscillatory modes （EMDs） and the instantaneous frequency determination （Hilbert transform） of every physically meaningful mode called intrinsic mode func- tion （IMF）. The resulting instantaneous frequencies are used to determine instantaneous wave vectors. The combination of the instantaneous frequencies and wave vectors is useful in the identification of wave modes based on the characteristics of the waves. The results show that EMD-Hilbert can be more reliable than simple Hilbert transform alone.

Synthesis, characterization,thermal behavior,and antifungal activity of La(Ⅲ) complexes with cinnamates and 4-methoxyphenylacetate

In this study a series of trivalent lanthanum complexes with 4-（R）-cinnamate （4-Rcinn, R=H（1）, MeO（2）, Cl（3）） and 4-methoxyphenylacetate ligands （4） were prepared and their antifungal activity against Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger and Trichophyton mentagrophytes were examined. Compounds 1-4 were synthesized by a metathesis reaction and fully characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H and 13C nMR spectroscopy, fluorescence spectra, thermogravimetry （TG）, derivative thermogravimetry （DTG）, differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） and X-ray diffraction powder patterns. In emission studies, it was observed that lu-minescence intensity was enhanced in the presence of lanthanide ion. The results of X-ray diffraction patterns indicated that all com-plexes studied exhibited crystalline structure. Thermal behavior by TG, DTG, and DSC studies permitted to estimating the hydration degree of the compounds and showed the formation of decomposition products like lanthanum oxide. Determined by antifungal stud-ies, lanthanum complexes 1-4 demonstrated antifungal activity toward all pathogenic fungal strains tested. Compounds 2 and 4 showed significant growth inhibition for A. niger and C. albicans, respectively.

Aims Increasing evidence worldwide indicates that high mountain regions are not immune to invasion by alien ***,we aimed to address whether three major woody invaders of low-mountain areas are constrained to lower altitudes due to climatic restrictions or just by low propagule *** hypothesize that the increasing climatic harshness towards higher altitudes restricts seedling establishment and survival of these woody invaders and thus their potential for altitudinal *** The study was carried out in the Sierras Grandes Mountains,Córdoba,central Argentina(32°50′S,64°90′W).We addressed the hypothesis with an experimental approach,dissociating the effect of the environmental gradient from that of propagule pressure,by discarding the influence of seed *** translocated seeds of Gleditsia triacanthos L.,Ligustrum lucidum *** Pyracantha angustifolia(Franch.)*** the altitudinal gradient(from 900 to 2700 m asl).Seven sites were selected along the altitudinal gradient,spaced every 200-400 *** plots(4×4 m)were selected within each altitudinal site and excluded from livestock;100 seeds of each species were sown within each plot(6300 seeds in total).Seedling emergence and survival was monitored during two growing seasons and soil temperature and moisture was recorded as *** field experiment was complemented with lab *** Findings Climate along this altitudinal gradient might be least restrictive at mid elevations,as a result of the intersection between opposite soil temperature and moisture *** seeds germinated along the whole altitudinal gradient and seedlings successfully established and over-wintered well above their current altitudinal distribution(up to 2200 m for Ligustrum and 2400 m for Gleditsia and Pyracantha).Additional lab assays confirmed field patterns and gave some insights into contrasting regeneration strategies between these invaders that might help to overcome stochastic e

Under the effects of electric field and chemical reaction, the problem of dispersion of aerosols in a poorly conducting fluid in a channel is solved analytically using the mixture theory together with a regular perturbation technique. It is shown that the aerosols are dispersed relative to a plane moving with the mean speed of atmospheric fluid as well as the mean speed of agglomeration of aerosol with a relative diffusion coefficient, called the Taylor dispersion coefficient. This coefficient is numerically computed and the results reveal that it increases with an increase in the electric number, but decreases with increasing porous parameter. The physical explanations for the phenomena are given in this article.

Effects of plating factors on morphology and appearance of electrogalvanized steel sheets

Because the lightness,the gloss and the press-formability of electrogalvanized steel sheets change depending on the morphology of deposited Zn,control of this factor is essential to improving these *** effects of plating factors on the morphology of deposited Zn were systematically discussed both from the crystallographic viewpoint of epitaxy between Zn and steel and from the electrochemical viewpoint of the overpotential for Zn *** factors include crystal orientation of steel substrate,current density,flow rate,temperature,addition of inorganic compounds to the solution and pre-adsorption of organic *** plating factors affect the overpotential for Zn deposition and epitaxy between Zn and *** crystal orientation index of the Zn basal plane and the platelet crystal size of Zn are decreased with increasing the overpotential for Zn *** are also decreased with decreasing the epitaxy between Zn and steel,even when the overpotential is kept *** the overpotential for Zn deposition is increased,the surface roughness of deposited Zn increases because of an increase in the inclination of the Zn basal plane to the steel *** the epitaxy between Zn and steel is decreased without changing the overpotential,the surface roughness is reduced due to the decrease in platelet crystal size of Zn,although the inclination of the Zn basal plane is somewhat *** lightness of deposited Zn is enhanced with decreasing the surface roughness of Zn.

Charm mixing from BABAR

We present recent results from BABAR experiment for D^0-D^0mixing measurements. Mixing parameters can be measured in different ways using different D^ decay modes, here we discuss the most sensitive analyses such as D^0→ K^＋π^- where we had the first evidence of charm mixing, the measurement of the ratio of lifetimes of the decays D^0→ K^K^ and D^0→π^＋π^- relative to D^0→ K^-π^＋, the time dependent Dalitz plot analysis of D^0→K^＋π^-π^0. new limits on CP-violating time-integrated asymmetries in Do→ K^＋K^- and D^0→π^＋π^- are also discussed. The analyses presented are based on 384 fb^-1 data collected with the BABAR detector at the peP-II asymmetric B Factory.

Influence of Various Parameters on Collapse Behaviour of Thin Cylinders

Axial compression experiments on as received aluminum tubes and tubes with wall thickness eccentricity incorporated by off centre machining showed that the eccentricity caused transition of their collapse mode from axisymmetric to diamond. The numerical simulation of the collapse phenomenon was undertaken using a static non-linear Finite Element Analysis in AnSYS, and results are found to compare well with the experimental load compression and energy absorption responses for axisymmetric concertina and non-axisymmetric diamond modes. Having validated the numerical model with experiments, it has been used to undertake a systematic study of the load - compression characteristics and collapse mode transitions of the tubes with varying eccentricities in wall thickness and boundary conditions, as well as the material properties.
