Projected impacts of climate change and anthropogenic effects on habitat distribution of endangered Javan Hawk-Eagle in Indonesia

Changing climate will jeopardize biodiversity,particularly the geographic distribution of endemic *** such species is the Javan Hawk-Eagle(JHE,Nisaetus bartelsi),a charismatic raptor found only on Java Island,***,it is crucial to develop an appropriate conservation strategy to preserve the *** niche modeling is considered a valuable tool for designing conservation plans for the *** provide an ecological niche modeling approach and transfer its model to future climate scenarios for the *** utilize various machine learning algorithms under sustainability and business-as-usual(BAU)scenarios for ***,we investigate the conservation vulnerability of the JHE,capturing multifaceted pressures on the species from climate dissimilarities and human disturbance *** study reveals that the ensemble model performs exceptionally well,with temperature emerging as the most critical factor affecting the JHE *** finding indicates that climate change will have a significant impact on the JHE *** results suggest that the JHE distribution will likely decrease by 28.41%and 40.16%from the current JHE distribution under sustainability and BAU scenarios,***,our study reveals high-potential refugia for future JHE,covering 7,596 km^(2)(61%)under the sustainability scenario and only 4,403 km^(2)(35%)under the BAU ***,effective management and planning,including habitat restoration,refugia preservation,habitat connectivity,and local community inclusivity,should be well-managed to achieve JHE conservation targets.

Discrimination of Wild Tea Germplasm Resources (Camellia sp.) Using RAPD Markers

Discrimination of 24 wild tea germplasm resources (Camellia sp.) using RAPD markers was conducted. The result showed that RAPD markers were very effective tool and method in wild tea germplasm discrimination. There were 3 independent ways to discriminate tea germplasms, a) unique RAPD markers, b) specific band patterns and c) a combination of the band patterns or DNA fingerprinting provided by different primers. The presence of 16 unique RAPD markers and the absence of 3 unique markers obtained from 12 primers made it possible to discriminate 14 germplasms. Using the unique band patterns of primer OPO-13 could discriminate 10 tea germplasms. It was of much importance using minimum primers to obtain maximum discrimination capacity. All the 24 wild tea germplasms could be discriminated easily and entirely by the band patterns combination or DNA fingerprinting obtained from OPO-13, OPO-18, OPG-12 and OPA-13, including two wild tea trees of very similar morphological characteristics and chemical components.

Mechanisms of resistance to spinosad in the western flower thrip, Frankliniella occidentalis （Pergande）（Thysanoptera： Thripidae）

Cross-resistance, resistance mechanisms, and mode of inheritance of spinosad resistance were studied in the western flower thrip, Frankliniella occidentalis （Pergande）. Spinosad （naturalyte insecticide） showed low cross-resistance to prothiophos （organophosphorus insecticide） and chlorphenapyr （respiratory inhibitor） showed some cross-resistance to thiocyclam （nereistoxin）. The synergists PBO （piperonyl butoxide）, DEM （diethyl maleate）, and DEF （s,s,s-tributyl phosphorotrithioate） did not show any synergism on the toxicity of spinosad in the resistant strain （ICS）, indicating that metabolic- mediated detoxification was not responsible for the spinosad resistance, suggesting that spinosad may reduce sensitivity of the target site： the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor and GABA receptor. Following reciprocal crosses, dose-response lines and dominance ratios indicated that spinosad resistance was incompletely dominant and there were no maternal effects. The results of backcross showed that spinosad resistance did not fit a single-gene hypothesis, suggesting that resistance was influenced by several genes.

In situ backscattered electron imaging study of the effect of annealing on the deformation behaviors of Ni electroformed from additive-free and saccharin-containing sulfamate solutions

The Ni samples were electroformed from additive-free(AF) and saccharin-containing(SC) sulfamate solutions, respectively. In situ backscattered electron(BSE) imaging, electron backscatter diffraction(EBSD), and electron-probe microanalysis(EPMA) were used to investigate the effect of annealing on the deformation behaviors of the AF and SC samples. The results indicate that columnar grains of the as-deposited AF sample had an approximated average width of 3 μm and an approximated aspect ratio of 8. The average width of columnar grains of the as-deposited SC sample was reduced to approximately 400 nm by the addition of saccharin to the electrolyte. A few very-large grains distributed in the matrix of the SC sample after annealing. No direct evidence indicated that S segregated at the grain boundaries before or after annealing. The average value of the total elongations of the SC samples decreased from 16% to 6% after annealing, whereas that of the AF samples increased from 18% to 50%. The dislocation recovery in grain-boundary areas of the annealed AF sample was reduced, which contributed to the appearance of microvoids at the triple junctions. The incompatibility deformation between very-large grains and fine grains contributed to the brittle fracture behavior of the annealed SC Ni.

Control of iron nanoparticle size by manipulating PEG-ethanol colloidal solutions and spin-coating parameters for the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes

Iron catalyst nanoparticles were prepared on silicon wafers by spin-coating colloidal solutions containing iron nitrate, polyethylene glycol （PEG） and absolute ethanol. The effects of various spin-coating conditions were investigated. The findings showed that the size of the iron particles was governed by the composition of the colloidal solution used and that a high angular speed was responsible for the formation of a thin colloidal *** effect of angular acceleration on the size and distribution of the iron particles were found to be insignificant. It was observed that a longer spin-coating duration provoked the agglomeration of iron particles, leading to the formation of large particles. We also showed that single-walled carbon nanotubes could be grown from the smallest iron catalyst nanoparticles after the chemical vapor deposition of methane.

Evaluation of the Fatigue Characteristics of Laser-processed Hot Work Tool Steel Based on Reliability

It is reported that laser-processing is effective to repair the heat checks, which are fine shallow cracks on a surfaceof die-casting dies. In this study, the rotating bending fatigue tests have been carried out to evaluate the fatiguecharacteristics of laser-processed hot working tool steel. Because test results are scattered, S-N curves are decidedbased on the evaluation of fatigue strength distribution. As a result, the fatigue strength of the laser-processedspecimens decreases remarkably in comparison with that of base metal. However, it can be recovered to almostinitial value by heat treatment at secondary hardening temperature. This procedure is also effective to decrease thescatter of fatigue strength. The laser-processing can be carried out at low cost and this method is effective for theextension of the work life of dies.

New pyrometallurgical process of EAF dust treatment with CaO addition

The non-carbothermic zinc pyrometallurgical processing of electric arc furnace(EAF) dust was investigated on a laboratory scale. The main objective of this process was to convert highly stable zinc ferrite(Zn Fe2O4), which accounts for more than half of total zinc in the EAF dust, into Zn O and Ca2Fe2O5 by Ca O addition. The EAF dust was mixed with Ca O powder in various ratios, pressed into pellets, and heated in a muffle furnace in air at temperatures ranging from 700 to 1100°C for a predetermined holding time. All Zn Fe2O4 was transformed into Zn O and Ca2Fe2O5 at a minimum temperature of 900°C within 1 h when sufficient Ca O to achieve a Ca/Fe molar ratio of 1.1 was added. However, at higher temperatures, excess Ca O beyond the stoichiometric ratio was required because it was consumed by reactions leading to the formation of compounds other than Zn Fe2O4. The evaporation of halides and heavy metals in the EAF dust was also studied. These components could be preferentially volatilized into the gas phase at 1100°C when Ca O was added.

BACKGROUND Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)is an extraintestinal manifestation of ulcerative colitis(UC).PSC is a well-known risk factor for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC),and ICC is known to have a poor *** SUMMARY We present two cases of ICC in patients with PSC associated with *** the first case,a tumor was found by magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)in the liver of a patient with PSC and UC who presented to our hospital with right-sided rib *** second patient was asymptomatic,but we unexpectedly detected two liver tumors in an MRI performed to evaluate bile duct stenosis associated with *** was strongly suspected by computed tomography and MRI in both cases,and surgery was performed,but unfortunately,the first patient died of ICC recurrence 16 mo postoperatively,and the second patient died of liver failure 14 mo *** Careful follow-up of patients with UC and PSC with imaging and blood tests is necessary for early detection of ICC.
