Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)has caused>760 million SARS-CoV-2 infections and 6.9 million deaths globally as reported by the World Health Organization(WHO).The virus is predominately a respiratory virus,but it has wellestablished effects on many organs,producing both shortterm and long-term sequelae[1].Studies early in the pandemic showed that perioperative COVID-19 was associated with significant increases in postoperative complications and *** led to governing medical organizations in the UK recommending that elective surgery should be delayed 7 weeks after COVID-19 infection,and possibly longer for those with ongoing symptoms at 7 weeks[1,2].COVID-19 presents novel challenges to patients and the surgical community worldwide,highlighting the need for renewed focus on perioperative care.

Postoperative sleep disturbance is a common occurrence with significant adverse effects on patients including delayed recovery,impairment of cognitive function,pain sensitivity and cardiovascular *** development of postoperative sleep disturbance is multifactorial and involves the surgical inflammatory response,the severity of surgical trauma,pain,anxiety,the use of anesthetics and environmental factors such as nocturnal noise and light *** of these factors can be managed perioperatively to minimize the deleterious impact on *** and non-pharmacological treatment strategies for postoperative sleep disturbance include dexmedetomidine,zolpidem,melatonin,enhanced recovery after surgery(ERAS) protocol and controlling of environmental noise and light *** is likely that a combination of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies will have the greatest impact;however,further research is required before their use can be routinely recommended.

Intrusion Detection System for PS-Poll DoS Attack in 802.11 Networks Using Real Time Discrete Event System

Wi-Fi devices have limited battery life because of which conserving battery life is imperative. The 802.11 Wi-Fi standard provides power management feature that allows stations(STAs) to enter into sleep state to preserve energy without any frame losses. After the STA wakes up, it sends a null data or PS-Poll frame to retrieve frame(s) buffered by the access point(AP), if any during its sleep period. An attacker can launch a power save denial of service(PS-DoS) attack on the sleeping STA(s) by transmitting a spoofed null data or PS-Poll frame(s) to retrieve the buffered frame(s) of the sleeping STA(s) from the AP causing frame losses for the targeted STA(s). Current approaches to prevent or detect the PS-DoS attack require encryption,change in protocol or installation of proprietary hardware. These solutions suffer from expensive setup, maintenance, scalability and deployment issues. The PS-DoS attack does not differ in semantics or statistics under normal and attack *** signature and anomaly based intrusion detection system(IDS) are unfit to detect the PS-DoS attack. In this paper we propose a timed IDS based on real time discrete event system(RTDES) for detecting PS-DoS attack. The proposed DES based IDS overcomes the drawbacks of existing systems and detects the PS-DoS attack with high accuracy and detection rate. The correctness of the RTDES based IDS is proved by experimenting all possible attack scenarios.

This report concerns a benchtop prototype instrument containing a gas chromatographic microanalytical system(μGC)designed for the selective determination of multiple airborne volatile organic compounds(VOCs)at concentrations in the vicinity of recommended occupational exposure *** core microsystem consists of a set of discrete Si-microfabricated devices:a dualcavity,adsorbent-packed micro-preconcentrator-focuser(μPCF)chip that quantitatively captures and thermally desorbs/injects VOCs with vapor pressures between~0.03 and 13 kPa;tandem micro-column(μcolumn)chips with cross-linked PDMS wall-coated stationary phases capable of temperature-programmed separations;and an integrated array of fiveμchemiresistors(μCR)coated with different thiolate-monolayer protected gold nanoparticle(MPN)interface films that quantifies and further differentiates among the analytes by virtue of the response patterns *** key components include a pre-trap for low-volatility interferences,a split-flow injection valve,and an onboard He carrier–gas *** assembled unit measures 19×30×14 cm,weighs~3.5 kg,operates on AC power,and is laptop/LabVIEW ***-and system-level tests of performance demonstrated injection bandwidths o1 s,aμcolumn capacity of≥8μg injected mass,linear calibration curves,no humidity effects,excellent medium-term(that is,1 week)reproducibility,autonomous operation for 8 h,detection limits below Threshold Limit Values(TLV)for 10 mL air samples collected in 1 min,and response patterns that enhanced vapor *** determination of a 17-VOC mixture in the presence of seven interferences was performed in 4 *** augur well for adapting the microsystem to an all-MEMS wearableμGC currently under parallel development.
