Serotonin syndrome(SS)is a drug-induced clinical syndrome resulting from increased serotonergic activity in the central nervous *** more than seven decades have passed since the first description of SS,it is still an enigma in terms of terminology,clinical features,etiology,pathophysiology,diagnostic criteria,and therapeutic *** majority of SS cases have previously been reported by toxicology or psychiatry centers,particularly in people with mental ***,serotonergic medications are used for a variety of conditions other than mental *** properties have been discovered in several new drugs,including over-the-counter *** days,cases are reported in non-toxicology centers,such as perioperative settings,neurology clinics,cardiology settings,gynecology settings,and pediatric *** or poisonings of serotonergic agents constituted the majority of the cases observed in toxicology or psychiatry *** or poisoning of serotonergic drugs is uncommon in other clinical *** may develop SS at therapeutic ***,these patients may continue to use serotonergic medications even if they develop mild to moderate SS due to several ***,the clinical presentation(onset,severity,and clinical features)in such instances may not exactly match what toxicologists or psychiatrists observe in their respective *** produce considerable diversity in many aspects of ***,other experts discount these new developments in *** SS is a potentially lethal illness,consensus is required on several concerns related to SS.

BACKGROUND Serotonin syndrome(SS)is an underdiagnosed drug-induced clinical syndrome resulting from the excess intrasynaptic concentration of *** limited information is available about chronic *** To evaluate the epidemiological,clinical,and other aspects of the insidious onset *** We retrospectively evaluated 14 consecutive adult patients(>18 years)who had complaints for more than 6 wk at the time of consultation and met the Hunter criteria for *** The mean age was 41.1 years(range:21-61 years),with a male preponderance(64%).Although tremors were observed in all patients,this was a presenting complaint in only 43%of *** body pain,insomnia,and restlessness were common presenting features(50%each).Other common clinical features were stiffness of the limbs(43%),diaphoresis(43%),gait disturbances(36%),bowel disturbances(36%),dizziness(29%),sexual dysfunctions(21%),incoordination(14%),and fatigue(14%)The mean duration of symptoms before the diagnosis of SS was 13.5±5.8 wk(range:6-24 wk).Amitriptyline was the most common drug(n=6,43%),followed by tramadol(n=5,36%)and sodium valproate(n=5,36%).All patients received cyproheptadine,a 5-hydroxytryptamine2A antagonist,as treatment and noted an excellent response CONCLUSION This study represents the largest study on chronic *** suggest that patients receiving serotonergic drugs should be physically examined for the presence of SS upon the development of new symptoms.

Objective In this study,the combined effect of two stressors,namely,electromagnetic fields(EMFs)from mobile phones and fructose consumption,on hypothalamic and hepatic master metabolic regulators of the AMPK/SIRT1-UCP2/FOXO1 pathway were elucidated to delineate the underlying molecular mechanisms of insulin *** Weaned Wistar rats(28 days old)were divided into 4 groups:Normal,Exposure Only(ExpO),Fructose Only(FruO),and Exposure and Fructose(EF).Each group was provided standard laboratory chow ad libitum for 8 ***,the control groups,namely,the Normal and FruO groups,had unrestricted access to drinking water and fructose solution(15%),***,the respective treatment groups,namely,the ExpO and EF groups,received EMF exposure(1,760 MHz,2 h/day x 8 weeks).In early adulthood,mitochondrial function,insulin receptor signaling,and oxidative stress signals in hypothalamic and hepatic tissues were assessed using western blotting and biochemical *** In the hypothalamic tissue of EF,SIRT1,FOXO 1,p-PI3K,p-AKT,ComplexⅢ,UCP2,MnSOD,and catalase expressions and OXPHOS and GSH activities were significantly decreased(P<0.05)compared to the Normal,ExpO,and FruO *** hepatic tissue of EF,the p-AMPKα,SIRT1,FOXO1,IRS1,p-PI3K,ComplexⅠ,Ⅱ,Ⅲ,Ⅳ,Ⅴ,UCP2,and MnSOD expressions and the activity of OXPHOS,SOD,catalase,and GSH were significantly reduced compared to the Normal group(P<0.05).Conclusion The findings suggest that the combination of EMF exposure and fructose consumption during childhood and adolescence in Wistar rats disrupts the closely interlinked and multi-regulated crosstalk of insulin receptor signals,mitochondrial OXPHOS,and the antioxidant defense system in the hypothalamus and liver.

Androgen deprivation therapy(ADT)is the standard of care treatment for advance stage prostate *** with ADT develops resistance in multiple ways leading to the development of castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC).Present research establishes that prostate cancer stem-like cells(CSCs)play a central role in the development of treatment resistance followed by disease *** CSCs are capable of self-renewal,differentiation,and regenerating tumor *** stemness properties in prostate CSCs arise due to various factors such as androgen receptor mutation and variants,epigenetic and genetic modifications leading to alteration in the tumor microenvironment,changes in ATP-binding cassette(ABC)transporters,and adaptations in molecular signaling *** reprograms prostate tumor cellular machinery leading to the expression of various stem cell markers such as Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 1 Family Member A1(ALDH1A1),Prominin 1(PROM1/CD133),Indian blood group(CD44),SRY-Box Transcription Factor 2(Sox2),POU Class 5 Homeobox 1(POU5F1/Oct4),Nanog and ABC *** markers indicate enhanced self-renewal and stemness stimulating CRPC evolution,metastatic colonization,and resistance to *** this review,we discuss the role of ADT in prostate CSCs differentiation and acquisition of CRPC,their isolation,identification and characterization,as well as the factors and pathways contributing to CSCs expansion and therapeutic opportunities.

Growth, photosynthesis and nitrogen metabolism in soybean varieties after exclusion of the UV-B and UV-A/B components of solar radiation

A field experiment was conducted to study the impact of the exclusion of the solar UV components on growth, photosynthesis and nitrogen metabolism in soybean(Glycine max)varieties PK-472, Pusa-24, JS 71-05, JS-335, NRC-7 and Kalitur. The plants were grown in specially designed UV exclusion chambers wrapped with filters to exclude UV-B or UV-A/B and transmitted all UV. Exclusion of UV significantly enhanced the growth of the aerial parts as well as the growth of the below ground parts in all of the six soybean *** reductase activity(NRA) was significantly reduced, whereas leghemoglobin(Lb)content, total soluble protein, net photosynthesis(Pn) and α-tocopherol content were enhanced after UV exclusion. The exclusion of solar UV-A/B enhanced all parameters to a larger extent than the exclusion of solar UV-B in four of the six varieties of soybean except for NRC-7 and Kalitur. These two varieties responded more to UV-B exclusion compared to UV-A/B exclusion. A significant inverse correlation between the NRA and the number of nodules per plant was observed. The extent of response in all parameters was greater in PK-472 and JS71-05 than that in Kalitur and JS-335 after UV exclusion. The exclusion of UV augmented the growth of nodules, Lb content and α-tocopherol levels and conferred higher rates of Pnto support better growth of nodules. Control plants(+ UV-A/B) seemed to fulfill their N demand through the assimilation of NO-3resulting in lower symbiotic nitrogen fixation and higher NR activity.

Androgen deprivation therapy targeting the androgens/androgen receptor(AR)signaling continues to be the mainstay treatment of advanced-stage prostate *** use of second-generation antiandrogens,such as abiraterone acetate and enzalutamide,has improved the survival of prostate cancer patients;however,a majority of these patients progress to castration-resistant prostate cancer(CRPC).The mechanisms of resistance to antiandrogen treatments are complex,including specific mutations,alternative splicing,and amplification of oncogenic proteins resulting in dysregulation of various signaling *** this review,we focus on the major mechanisms of acquired resistance to second generation antiandrogens,including AR-dependent and AR-independent resistance mechanisms as well as other resistance mechanisms leading to CRPC *** knowledge of resistance mechanisms to AR targeted treatments will lead to additional research on designing more effective therapies for advanced-stage prostate cancer.

Characterization of Polyvinyl Pyrollidone Coated Sodium Borohydride Stabilized Particle Colloidal Silver Fresh None Filtered and Nano Filtered Solution Made up of Magnetic Stirring and Cooling Method

Characterization is absolutely necessary and is a must in order to understand and estimate different silver nanoparticle (nm) size in specific group wise manner which corresponds to group wise in number & sizes, and their importance and effect on biological tissue and organs with agglomeration for nano toxicological studies in environments, the acute toxicity of colloidal silver nano particles (AgNps) were studied in fresh dissected tissues of Swiss Albino mice and their fetuses. In this manuscript, an attempt is made to demonstrate the synthesis and characterization of silver nano particles with a wide range of sizes (from 2.75 nm up to 1908.2 nm in radius) by reducing silver nitrate powder with polyvinyl pyrollidone in aqueous solutions in the presence of a sodium borohydride stabilizer. The resulting particles were found spherical aggregates with a rough surface and poly dispersity index below 18.26% (>0.783 PDI). The particle optical, cumulative, diluents and electrical conductivity properties were examined by dynamic light scattering and zeta potential but morphology was evaluated after examination by transmission electron microscopy & image-j. Silver nanoparticles were directly coated with polyvinyl pyrollidone with a sodium borohydride stabilizer. Optical properties on a single-particle level were studied by means of auto correlation function measurements. The effective poly dispersity index of the charged silver nanoparticles was low enough to form a colloidal crystal at low ionic strength. Colloidal form is found more toxic than suspended particles in 1.5 molar sodium chloride solution;this shows increase of silver nanoparticles size due to agglomeration, will reduce the toxicity but increase teratogenicity.

Removal of Bi(Ⅲ) with Adsorption Technique Using Coconut Shell Activated Carbon

In present study,we report the preparation of coconut shell activated carbon as adsorbent and its appli-cation for Bi(Ⅲ) removal from aqueous *** developed adsorbent was characterized with scanning elec-tron microscope(SEM),Fourier Transform Infrared(FTIR),C,H,N,S analyzer,and BET surface area *** parameters examined include agitation time,initial concentration of Bi(Ⅲ),adsorbent dose and *** maximum adsorption of Bi(Ⅲ)(98.72%) was observed at 250 mg·L-1 of Bi(Ⅲ) and adsorbent dose of 0.7 g when agitation was at 160 r·min-1 for 240 min at(299±2) *** thermodynamic parameters such as Gibb's free energy(△Gθ),enthalpy(△Hθ) and entropy(△Sθ) were *** the isotherm models applied to adsorption study,the Langmuir isotherm model fits better than the Freundlich *** maximum adsorption capacity from the Langmuir isotherm was 54.35 mg?g?1 of Bi(Ⅲ).The kinetic study of the adsorption shows that the pseudo second order model is more appropriate than the pseudo first order *** result shows that,coconut shell ac-tivated carbon is an effective adsorbent to remove Bi(Ⅲ) from aqueous solutions with good adsorption capacity.
