In Senegal, tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) cultivation is affected by salinity in many agro-ecological zones. The selection of salt tolerant varieties would be an alternative solution to enhance the production. Thus, germination and growth are studied under axenic conditions for five varieties of tomato subjected to increasing concentrations of NaCl [0, 35, 70 and 105 mM], and supplemented in an MS/2 medium for 30 days. The results reveal that salt negatively affects the evaluated parameters. The Rodeo and Lady Nema varieties have the lowest final germination rates (50%) unlike the Mongal variety (55%). These last two varieties have a decrease of 71.78% and 81.28% in the height of the stem, respectively, in the presence of NaCl at [105 mM] while that of the Rodeo variety is 70%. The Xewel variety has the greatest average number of leaves in the presence of [NaCl 35 mM] (4.95 leaves) and [NaCl 70 mM] (4.77 leaves). The Lady Nema variety records the longest taproot length (2.99 cm) unlike the Rodeo variety (2.25 cm) at [NaCl 105 mM]. Effects of sleev. gastrectomy plus trunk v.gotomy compared with sleev. gastrectomy on glucose metabolism in diabetic rats

AIM To inv.stigate the effects of sleev. gastrectomy plus trunk v.gotomy(SGTv. compared with sleev. gastrectomy(SG) in a diabetic rat *** SGTv. SG, Tv.and Sham operations were performed on rats with diabetes induced by high-fat diet and streptozotocin. Body weight, food intake, oral glucose tolerance test, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR), hepatic insulin signaling(IR, IRS1, IRS2, PI3 K and AKT), oral glucose stimulatedinsulin secretion, GLP-1 and ghrelin were compared at v.rious postoperativ. *** Both SG and SGTv.resulted in better glucose tolerance, lower HOMA-IR, up-regulated hepatic insulin signaling, higher lev.ls of oral glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, higher postprandial GLP-1 and lower fasting ghrelin lev.ls than the Tv.and Sham groups. No significant differences were observ.d between the SG and SGTv.groups. In addition, no significant differences were found between the Tv.and Sham groups in terms of glucose tolerance, HOMA-IR, hepatic insulin signaling, oral glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, postprandial GLP-1 and fasting ghrelin lev.ls. No differences in body weight and food intake were noted between the four *** SGTv.is feasible for diabetes control and is independent of weight loss. Howev.r, SGTv.did not result in a better improv.ment in diabetes than SG alone.

Colonoscopy rev.aled a 3 × 4 cm ulcerated mass in the rectum 4 cm from the *** pathological examination showed v.llous adenoma,moderate-tohigh-grade dysplasia,good differentiation,and inv.sion of the mucosal *** patient had R1 after ultra-low anterior resection,but he refused extended resection and experienced sev.re liv.r function impairment after 3 cycles of chemotherapy. Ultimately,the patient underwent PDT to remov. R1. After fiv. years of follow-up,there was no liv.r function impairment,recurrence,metastasis,sexual dysfunction,or abnormal defecation *** This is the first case worldwide in which R1 of rectal cancer were successfully treated by PDT.
