Alleviating effects and mechanisms of action of large-leaf yellow tea drinking on diabetes and diabetic nephropathy in mice

Our previous study found that large-leaf yellow tea(LYT)had interesting hypoglycemic activity in high-fat diet-induced obese mice and highly safety in healthy mice. To study the anti-diabetic potential of LYT, the present study further investigated the preventive effects and mechanisms of action of LYT administration on diabetes and diabetic nephropathy in high-fat diet plus streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Results showed that LYT infusions(1/100 and 1/50, m/V)as drinking fluid for 4 weeks reduced diabetic polydipsia and polyuria, enhanced glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, and lowered fasting blood glucose level. The underlying mechanisms involve downregulation of gluconeogenesis(lower protein levels of TXNIP and FBP and enzyme activity of FBP), upregulation of lipid catabolism(higher protein levels of CPT-1α and PPARα), downregulation of lipogenesis(lower protein level of sREBP-1), and modification of the structure and abundance of gut microbiota to modulate metabolic homeostasis. Moreover, LYT administration prevented diabetic nephropathy, possibly due to reduced glucose-caused osmotic diuresis and lowered levels of renal PKC-β2, NLRP3 as well as membrane PKC-α, AQP2 and glycosylated AQP2 proteins. Taken together, LYT exhibits the activities in alleviating diabetic symptoms, ameliorating glucose and lipid dysmetabolism and fatty liver, and preventing diabetic nephropathy in diabetic mice. These activities may be explored for the prevention and treatment of diabetes in humans.

Acupuncture is a medical treatment that has been widely pra cticed in China for over 3000 years,yet the neural mechanisms of acupuncture are not fully *** hypothesized that neurons and astrocytes act independently and synergistically under acupuncture *** investigate this,we used two-photon in vivo calcium reco rding to observe the effects of acupuncture stimulation at sT36(Zusanli)in *** stimulation in peripheral acupoints potentiated calcium signals of pyramidal neurons and astrocytes in the somatosensory cortex and resulted in late-onset calcium transients in *** inhibition of neurons augmented the astrocytic *** findings suggest that acupuncture activates neuronal and astrocytic activity in the somatosensory co rtex and provide evidence for the involvement of both neurons and astrocytes in acupuncture treatment.

The soft X-ray Imager(sXI)is part of the scientific payload of the solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(sMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European space Agency(EsA)and the Chinese Academy of sciences(CAs)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the sMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the solar Wind Charge eXchange(sWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the sXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of sMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,China and the United states.

Design Optimization and Operating Performance of s-CO_(2) Brayton Cycle under Fluctuating Ambient Temperature and Diverse Power Demand scenarios

The supercritical CO_(2)(s-CO_(2)) Brayton cycle is expected to replace steam cycle in the application of solar power tower system due to the attractive potential to improve efficiency and reduce *** the concentrated solar power plant with thermal energy storage is usually located in drought area and used to provide a dispatchable power output,the s-CO_(2) Brayton cycle has to operate under fluctuating ambient temperature and diverse power demand *** addition,the cycle design condition will directly affect the off-design *** this work,the combined effects of design condition,and distributions of ambient temperature and power demand on the cycle operating performance are analyzed,and the off-design performance maps are proposed for the first time.A cycle design method with feedback mechanism of operating performance under varied ambient temperature and power demand is introduced *** show that the low design value of compressor inlet temperature is not conductive to efficient operation under low loads and sufficient output under high ambient *** average yearly efficiency is most affected by the average power demand,while the load cover factor is significantly influenced by the average ambient *** multi-objective optimization,the optimal solution of designed compressor inlet temperature is close to the minimum value of35℃ in Delingha with low ambient temperature,while reaches 44.15℃ in Daggett under the scenario of high ambient temperature,low average power demand,long duration and large value of peak load during the peak temperature *** the cycle designed with compressor inlet temperature of 35℃ instead of 44.15℃ in Daggett under light industry power demand,the reduction of load cover factor will reach 0.027,but the average yearly efficiency can barely be improved.

＜正＞CsIRO Textile and Fiber Technology and four major Chinese spinning mills have recently conducted an industrial top dyeing *** aim of the trial was to compare the Chinese mills performance against CsIRO’s performance in order to identify key quality issues,which affect the mills spinning quality. Results show that there are large variations in spinning performance among participating *** best of the Chinese mills performance is catching up with the world’s best practice as represented by CsIRO’s performance in this study. Yams spun at CsIRO have the best evenness,lowest thin/thick places and best breaking *** counts at CsIRO are less than half of the Chinese mills average and spinning ends-down is only one quarter of the Chinese mills average. Different mills have different *** mills have good top dyeing quality but their spinning is not as *** mills are good in spinning but poor in top dyeing.A problem common to all Chinese mills is high nep counts and high spinning ends-down. The trial has proven very useful in identifying the mills key quality problems and received a high level of interest from all participating mills. The work was partially funded by the Australian Center for International Agriculture Research（ACIAR）.

＜正＞Tea and tea preparations have been proposed to have beneficial health effects based mostly on studies in animals and some observations or experiments in humans. The most extensively studied area is on the prevention of cancer and cardiovascular diseases. A new hot topic is on the effects of tea in weight or body fat reduction and in alleviating diabetes. Tea consumption has also been proposed to inhibit oral bacterial growth and prevent cavities, to reduce the risk of cataracts, to alleviate symptoms of arthritis, and to increase bone density. The scientific evidence for the proposed benefits is evaluated in this review based on our understanding of the chemical, biochemical, and pharmacological properties of tea constituents. It is hoped that this review will stimulate additional studies and improve our understanding of the health effects associated with tea consumption.
