Medical School Students’ Knowledge of Pain and Palliative c.r.: An Observational Study

Background: Pain and palliative c.r. are a reality in daily routines of medical treatment. However, the theoretical-practical c.r.icula of traditional medical school course still unsatisfactorily contemplate pain management, as well as the palliative c.r. approach. Objective: To assess the knowledge of medical students about pain and palliative c.r., as well as to identify their perception of teaching these topics during hospitalization. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study, with a descriptive and exploratory approach, data collection for which was c.r.ied out between August and November 2020. The target population was medical students, who responded to an online survey of a quantitative, anonymous and follow-up nature. The survey study variables conc.r.ed knowledge about pain management and palliative c.r.. results: An expressive majority of academics showed difficulty in understanding the pathophysiology of pain related to prescribing drugs for pain management purposes, and all of them believe that it is necessary to acquire more knowledge about pain treatment. In parallel, only 9.3% report having received sufficient information regarding palliative c.r. during medical school. conclusion: The results suggest a c.r.ain lack of knowledge and insec.r.ty among medical school students with respect to pain management and c.r. for patients receiving palliative c.r.. The didactical approach to this theme is still deficient in the medical c.r.iculum and requires immediate improvement and new proposals that address the training of these professionals in a more specific and effective way.

The required treatment and monitoring of contaminants in wastewater reinforces the development of low-cost adsorbents/chemosensors,introducing advantages relative to the detection/removal of toxic metals and ***,it is reported a two-step process of fabrication of fluorescent c.r.on dots via the hydrothermal treatment of amino acids for the following encapsulation in elec.r.spun *** prominent anionic behavior of elec.r.spun fibers of Eudragit L100 was explored for adsorption of cationic dyes(methylene blue and crystal violet)-with the prevailing elec.r.static interaction of parts being favored by the formation of monolayers on the surface of *** the other hand,the controlled release of c.r.on dots(cDs)from fibers to the reactor can be explored for a second application:the nitrogen ligands from released glycine-based c.r.on dots can be explored to indicate the presence of metal ions in aqueous *** experiment resulted in a quenching in the fluorescence of the cDs in order of 90%in the emission of particles in the response of the presence of Fe^(3+) ions,characterizing a promising perspective for this experimental system.

Therapeutic Approaches to Post-Mastectomy Pain Syndrome

Background: Breast canc.r.is increasingly common in society and post-mastectomy pain is a striking condition associated with surgery, both intra and postoperatively. The post-mastectomy syndrome is characterized by the persistence of pain for more than 3 months after the procedure. It is mostly of neuropathic origin and is highly refractory to treatments, which vary from clinical to surgical measures and alternative techniques. In this context, it is essential to understand the possible approaches to these patients. Objective: Understand alternatives for pain management in patients undergoing mastectomy, especially in those in whom pain persists for more than 3 months. Methods: Systematic literature review, conducted in the Virtual Health Library databases includes: Lilacs, SciELO, Medline, PubMed and coc.r.ne between 2018 and 2023, restricted to articles in English with the descriptors: Mastectomy, c.r.nic Pain, Nerve Blocks and Breast canc.r. 317 articles were found involving the descriptors presented, all in English. After reading the abstracts, 28 articles were selected. results: This review analyzed 28 scientific studies that rigorously met the previously established characteristics in the sample selection. The synthesis included the following aspects: author/year of publication, article title, objective, type of study and database. conclusion: It was concluded that, acc.r.ing to the analyzed studies, post-mastectomy pain is a problem that has increased its incidence and that needs the attention of health professionals. The use of antineuropathic medications, nerve blocks, fat grafting, lymph node transplantation, therapy, physical activity and acupuncture are some examples of therapeutic approaches for these women. Therefore, the team must assist the patients, seeking to provide a better prognosis, quality of life and comfort.

Direct on Line Starting Induction Motor with Thyristor Switched capacitor Based Voltage regulation

The purpose of this paper is to show a laboratory scale implementation of a Thyristor Switched capacitors （TSc） as an alternative for voltage regulation during a direct on line three-phase induction motor starting on an emulated weak transmission line. Thyristor switched capacitor bank was chosen because it is a well known topology, considering the very nature of the direct starting induction motors, which represents a highly inductive load, the use of switched reactors becomes unnecessary. Such fact minimizes the introduction of harmonics components, and also reduces the cost of the implementation. The binary disposition of the banks allows a variable Var compensation with sixteen steps, in this case. The solution makes use of low cost devices combined with sliding window voltage and c.r.ent measurement algorithm and a PI control with dead band control for achieve the shown experimental results, where the system is able to manage a typically 20% voltage drop, reducing it to less than 4%. The schematic of the developed c.r.uit, the control technique and a quite simple method to calculate the binary weight capacitors banks are also presented.

Objective: To isolate candida albicans(c. albicans) from the urine of hospitalized patients and assess the virulence factors and antifungal susceptibility profiles of the ***: Yeasts were identified using the c.r.mogenic medium c.r.Magar?, the VITEK~?2 system, hypertonic Sabouraud broth, tobacco agar, polymerase chain reaction,and DNA sequencing. The evaluated virulence factors were proteinase production,phospholipase production, and biofilm production on polystyrene. The broth microdilution technique was used to determine the minimum inhibitory ***: All yeasts isolated from urine were identified as c. albicans using both classical and molecular methods. Although 91.3% of the isolates showed no phospholipase activity, 56.5% showed strong proteinase activity and 91.7% produced biofilm. All microorganisms were sensitive to fluconazole, voriconazole and amphotericin B, but 56.5% of the yeasts showed resistance to ***: c. albicans isolates from urine have a high capacity for virulence and can be associated with infectious processes. Furthermore, the high percentage of isolates resistant to itraconazole is important because this antifungal agent is commonly used to treat fungal infections in the hospital environment.

BAcKGrOUND Peroneal tendon disorders are common causes of lateral hindfoot ***,total rupture of the peroneal longus tendon is *** treatment for this condition is usually a side-to-side tenodesis of the peroneal longus tendon to the peroneal brevis *** the traditional procedure involves a long lateral c.r.ed incision,this approach is associated with damage to the lateral soft tissues(up to 24%incidence).cASE SUMMArY A 50-year-old female had developed pain at the lateral aspect of the hindfoot 1 mo after an ankle sprain while walking in the *** treatments were anti-inflammatory drugs,ice,rest and cam-walker *** physical exam,there was pain and swelling over the course of the peroneal *** instability and cavovarus foot deformity were ruled *** strength was weak(4/5).Imaging showed complete rupture of the peroneal longus tendon associated with a sharp hypertrophic peroneal *** repair was indicated after failure of conservative treatment(physiotherapy,rest,analgesics,and ankle stabilizer).A less invasive approach was performed for peroneal longus tendon debridement and side-to-side tenodesis to the adjacent peroneal brevis tendon,with successful clinical and functional *** Peroneus longus tendon tenodesis can be performed through a less invasive approach with preservation of the lateral soft tissue integrity.

Effects of Dexamethasone, clonidine, Tramadol and Nalbuphine on Fentanyl-Induced Hyperalgesia in rats

Opioids are drugs used to alleviate pain. However, studies have demonstrated that these drugs can cause an increase in pain sensitivity, which is called opioid-induced hyperalgesia. The objective of this study was to describe the effects of dexamethasone, clonidine, tramadol and nalbuphine on fentanyl-induced hyperalgesia in rats. After obtaining approval from the committee for the Ethical Use of Animals (cEUA), 36 male Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups: Group 1 (GcSSL) wherein the rats received 1 ml 0.9% saline solution in two injections;Group 2 (GFTSL), received fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 followed by 1 ml 0.9% saline solution via intraperitoneal;the remaining groups (3, 4, 5, 6) received fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 following doses via intraperitoneal: Group 3 (GFTDX), dexamethasone at a dose of 1.0 mg·kg-1;Group 4 (GFTcL), clonidine at a dose of 20 mg·kg-1;Group 5 (GFTTr), tramadol at a dose of 50 mg·kg-1, and Group 6 (GFTNB), nalbuphine at a dose of 5 mg·kg-1. Under general anestesia using isoflurane, the animals were submitted to a surgical incision. Hyperalgesia was evaluated by applying Von Frey filaments at 2 hours after the incision and on the 1st, 3rd and 5th days afterward. At 2 hours after the surgical procedure, there was lower intensity of pain in the fentanyl group (GFTSL) compared to the other groups, and on the fifth day there were no significant differences for pain intensity between groups. The results suggest the presence of fentanyl-induced hyperalgesia and efficacy in its reduction by dexamethasone, clonidine, tramadol and nalbuphine.

Influence of peanut skin extract on shelf-life of sheep patties

Objective: To evaluate the phenolic profile and antioxidant activity in vitro of peanut skin extract(PSE) and effect of PSE on characteristics of sheep patties during ***: PSE phenolic profile was evaluated in Lc–MS analysis and by total phenolic content, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging capacity and ferric.r.ducing/antioxidant power. Patties elaborated with sheep meat were packaged in modified atmosphere and storage at(2 ± 1)c. The analyses were performed every 5 days for 20 days on microbial counts, physico-chemical properties, lipid oxidation, protein stability and sensory ***: The major group of phenolic compounds in PSE was the proanthocyanidins followed by other flavonoids, which are related to potential phenolic content and antioxidant activity. The addition of PSE and butyl hydroxytoluene(BHT) reduced the microbial counts during the storage time, caused reduction on the loss of redness and sensory properties over time. The lipid and protein oxidation in sheep patties was effectively inhibited by PSE and ***: The present results showed the potential application of PSE as a natural alternative to replace synthetic antioxidants(BHT) for increasing the quality and extending the shelf-life of sheep patties.

Opioid-induced hyperalgesia negatively affects physiological pain management and presents a complex causal mechanism, involving, pharmacodynamic and pharmacokinetic factors of interactions with receptors, opioid-independent ascending systems and with pro-nociceptive systems. After approval by the cEUA, 42 male Wistar rats were divided into 7 groups: In group 1 (GcSSL) the animals received 1 ml of 0.9% saline solution intraperitoneally (IP);in group 2 (GFTSL), they received fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 IP;in the remaining groups (3, 4, 5, 6 and 7) the animals received IP, fentanyl at a dose of 100 ug·kg-1 followed also by IP route of: group 3 (GFTKP) ketoprofen at a dose of 5 mg·kg-1;group 4 GFTKT), ketamine up to a dose of 10.0 mg·kg-1;group 5 (GFTLI), incisional lidocaine up to a dose of 10 mg·kg-1;group 6 (GFTLP), intraperitoneal lidocaine up to a dose of 10 mg·kg-1 and group 7 (GFTPP), propofol up to a dose of 60 mg·kg-1. Under general anesthesia, all animals with a plantar surgical incision. Hyperalgesia was evaluated by applying Von Frey filaments on the 2nd, 1st, 3rd and 5th days after treatment. In the 2nd hour and on the 5th day after the procedure, there was no hyperalgesia associated with the use of fentanyl, however, on the 1st and 3rd postoperative days there was hyperalgesia that was attenuated by ketoprofen, ketamine, lidocaine infiltrated in the incision and intraperitoneally, an effect not observed with the use of propofol. The results suggest fentanyl-induced hyperalgesia and the efficacy of ketoprofen, ketamine, incisional lidocaine and intraperitoneal lidocaine in reducing this effect.
