Low dose oral haloperidol does not prolong QTc interval in older acutely hospitalised adults： a subanalysis of a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study

Background Haloperidol is the most frequently prescribed antipsycbotic for delirium symptoms. The risk of QTc prolongation often raises concerns, although the effect of haloperidol on QTc interval has not yet been investigated in a randomised placebo-controlled fixed-dose study. methods A subanalysis of a randomised double-blind placebo-controlled study was conducted to evaluate the effect of prophylactic haloperidol 1 mg or placebo 1 mg orally twice-daily （maximum of 14 doses） on QTc interval in patients aged 70 years and over. Bedside, 12-lead ECGs were recorded before, during and after the one-week intervention period. Automatic QTc measurements were ob- tained in addition to manual measurements of QT and RR intervals, blinded for treatment status. manual measurements were corrected （QTc） using Bazett （QTc-B）, Framingham （QTc-Fa）, Fridericia （QTc-Fi） and Hodges （QTc-H） methods. mixed model analyses were used to test for differences in longitudinal course of QTc between patients receiving haloperidol and placebo. Results ECG recordings of 72 patients （haloperidol n = 38） were analysed, 45.8% male. median （range） haloperidol serum concentration on day 4 was 0.71 （0.32-1.82） μg/L （n = 23）. Longitudinal course of mean QTc did not significantly differ between treatment arms for any of the automatic or manually derived QTc values. Conclusions Low dose oral haloperidol did not result in QTc prolongation in older acutely hospitalised patients. Results may not be generalizable to patients with existing ECG abnormalities such as atrial fibrillation.

Acute Pilates and plyometric exercise in school-based settings improve attention and mathematics performance in high school students

Use of DREAm to assess relative risks of presence of pharmaceuticals and personal care products from a wastewater treatment plant

Concerns related to environmental risks associated with pharmaceuticals and personal care products(PPCPs)have led researchers to seek methods for assessing and monitoring these contaminants in the aquatic *** and validating risk assessment tools that can evaluate ecological concerns and risks associated with PPCPs is ***,the suitability of a dose-related risk and effect assessment model,which estimates predicted environmental concentrations and allowed comparisons with predicted no effect concentrations determined,in combination with in vitro analyses of the whole effluent toxicity,was verified for the characterization of a PPCP *** of the most utilized PPCPs in Norway were measured in influent and effluent samples and used to parameterize the fate *** than 90%removal was attained for 12 out of 22 detected *** was not dependent on the class or the concentration of the specific substance and varied between 12%and 100%.The PPCPs detected in the discharged wastewater were utilized to assess individual contributions to the risk of the effluent,and no risk was identified for the targeted 30 *** simulations provided valuable information regarding the discharge plume distribution over time,which can aid planning of future environmental monitoring ***(using fish liver cells,PLHC-1)were used for assessing overall effluent toxicity,through cell viability,production of reactive oxygen species,and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase(EROD)*** present study may allow regulators to use risk-based strategies over removal criteria for monitoring studies and confirms the importance to take PPCP contamination into consideration when establishing environmental regulations.

Potential of guar gum as a leaky gut model in broilers: Digestibility,performance, and microbiota responses

Diet is a major modulator of animal resilience and its three pillars: host?s immune response, gut microbiota, and intestinal barrier. In the present study, we endeavour to delineate a challenging condition aimed to degrade these pillars and elucidate its impact on broiler performance and nutrient digestibility. To attain this objective, we opted to use guar gum(GG) as a source of galactomannan. A series of three in vivo experiments were conducted employing conventional or semi-purified diets, supplemented with or without GG during the grower phase(14-28 d). Our findings demonstrate a substantial decline in animal performance metrics such as body weight(reduced by 29%, P mentation of a semi-purified diet with incremental doses of GG resulted in a linear reduction(P matter and apparent metabolisable energy. Additionally, a marked reduction in ileal endogenous losses, as well as apparent and standardised digestibility of all amino acids with varying proportions(P mpanied by disrupted gut integrity assessed by fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran(FITC-d)(P mmatory status characterised by elevated levels of acute-phase proteins,namely orosomucoid and serum amyloid A in the sera(P = 0.03), and increased m RNA expression levels of IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, Inos, and K203 genes in the ileum, along with a decrease in Ig A levels in the gut lumen(P microbial ecology and activity were characterised by reduced diversity and richness(Shannon index, P = 0.005) in the presence of GG. Palaeogene Sandstones of the manika Plateau in Kolwezi (DR Congo): Sedimentological and Geochemical Characterization, Provenance, Palaeoalteration and Tectonic Context

This work presents a study of the Paleogene sandstones of the manika plateau in Kolwezi, DR Congo. These sandstones belong to the “Grès polymorphes” group, which together with the overlying “Sables ocre” makes up the Kalahari Supergroup. Sedimentological and geochemical analyses have enabled us to characterize these sandstones and determine their origin, the conditions of their formation and the tectonic context in which they were developed. The results show that the sandstones are quartz arenites with a high level of mineralogical, textural and chemical maturity. They are recycled sandstones, formed in an intracratonic sedimentary basin, in the context of a passive continental margin, after a long fluvial transport of sediments. These sandstones initially come from intense alteration of magmatic rocks with felsic composition, mainly tonalite-trondhjemite-granodiorite (TTG) complexes, in hot, humid palaeoclimatic conditions and oxidizing environments.

Context: The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) requires modeling prior to its implementation in algorithms for most human skills. This observation requires us to have a detailed and precise understanding of the interfaces of verbal and emotional communications. The progress of AI is significant on the verbal level but modest in terms of the recognition of facial emotions even if this functionality is one of the oldest in humans and is omnipresent in our daily lives. Dysfunction in the ability for facial emotional expressions is present in many brain pathologies encountered by psychiatrists, neurologists, psychotherapists, mental health professionals including social workers. It cannot be objectively verified and measured due to a lack of reliable tools that are valid and consistently sensitive. Indeed, the articles in the scientific literature dealing with Visual-Facial-Emotions-Recognition (ViFaEmRe), suffer from the absence of 1) consensual and rational tools for continuous quantified measurement, 2) operational concepts. We have invented a software that can use computer-morphing attempting to respond to these two obstacles. It is identified as the method of Analysis and Research of the Integration of Emotions (m.A.R.I.E.). Our primary goal is to use m.A.R.I.E. to understand the physiology of ViFaEmRe in normal healthy subjects by standardizing the measurements. Then, it will allow us to focus on subjects manifesting abnormalities in this ability. Our second goal is to make our contribution to the progress of AI hoping to add the dimension of recognition of facial emotional expressions.
