A novel neural model for emotional modulation of word reading is proposed. This model has four principal hypotheses: the dominant activa-tion region hypothesis, the emotional modulation hypothesis, the attentional level hypothesis, and the interaction hypothesis. Four lines of research were reviewed to provide evidence for these hypotheses: (1) neuro-cognitive studies on the mechanisms of word reading (i.e., neural networks for reading); (2) studies on the influence of words’ emotional valence on word reading; (3) studies of the effect of attention on word reading; and (4) studies on emotional modulation of word reading under different attentional levels.

To investigate the neuro-biological bases of introversion-extraversion personality traits, the concentra- tion of four neurochemicals (Cho, mI, α-Glx and NAA) in anterior cigulate gyrus between normal extroverts and in- troverts were examined using non-invasive 1H MRS tech- nique. Our study revealed that introverts have significantly higher level of α-Glx, Cho and mI in the anterior cingulate gyrus than extroverts. This result provides new evidence that the anterior cingulate gyrus is related to personality traits partly in support of Eysenck’s supposition that introverts have higher arousal level than extroverts. Moreover, this result offers neurochemical data for psychobiological theo- ries of personality.

The current work investigated the neural correlates of visual perceptual learning in grating orientation discrimination by recording event-related potentials (ERPs) from human adults. Subjects were trained with a discrimination task of grating orientation in three consecutive training sessions within 2 h. While reaction times (RTs) were shortened gradually across training sessions, the N1 was decreased and the P2 was increased over the parietal and occipital areas. A broadly distributed P3 was increased along with more practices. In addition, the time course of learning reflected in the P2 and P3 amplitudes was in line with the changes of reaction times and exhibited a stable level during later training. The impli- cations of these results to the neural mechanisms subserving perceptual learning were discussed.

One of the most important but challenging questions in neuroscience is how early language experience affects the language-ready brain function and anatomy, i.e., the development of dorsal and ventral streams in the left-hemisphere language network, as spoken language is ubiquitous in the environment of hearing infants. Congenitally profoundly deaf children born into hearing parents often do not receive functional language input until they receive special services or interact with other deaf individuals who use sign language. This presents a unique opportunity to explore how early language experience changes the language-ready brains becoming language-using brains. Here we recruited and compared functional and structural brain data from the following three groups:(1)congenitally profoundly deaf adults(n=31) with rare early sign language experience(congenitally deaf non-native signers, CDNN);(2) congenitally profoundly deaf adults(n=29) who were native signers of Chinese Sign Language(congenitally deaf native signers, CDN);(3) hearing speakers(HS)(n=31). Without early language input, compared with CDN and HS, CDNN has changed functional connectivity strength(FCS), that is, decreased FCS in left inferior frontal gyrus(Broca’s area) but increased FCS in left angular gyrus(Geschwind’sarea), in the dorsal pathway, but not in the ventral pathway. Furthermore, when performing a passive sign language comprehension task, CDNN also activated less in dorsal part of left inferior frontal gyrus compared with CDN and HS. More important, CDN showed similar FCS and activation pattern as HS, suggesting general modality-independence of the core language network plasticity in the dorsal pathway might be affected purely by early language experience. We further find the part of superior longitudinal/arcuate fasciculus(SLF/AF) in posterior superior temporal gyrus(Wernicke’s area)showed significantly enhanced fractional anisotropy(FA) in CDNN compared to CDN and HS,providing a possible str

词汇判断是一种在字词认知研究中广泛使用的实验范式。本文提出了一个基于分布式语义表征的计算模型，用来解释某些在词汇判断作业中出现的实验现象。模型是一个包括词形层、隐层、语义层、词典层和判断层的前传网络。词形层、隐层和语义层之间的连接权重在学习过程中被不断调整，使用反传算法进行学习。语义层、词典层和判断层之间的连接权重在学习前就已被固定，在学习过程中不进行调整。模型模拟了在词汇判断作业中出现的四种实验现象：（１）频率效应；（２）语义启动效应；（３）频率与语境的交互作用；（４）重复启动效应。模型所表现出的行为特性由模型的框架和学习算法所决定。
