Objective:a-Synuclein has been studied as a potential biomarker for Parkinson's disease(PD)with no concluding ***,there is an urgent need to find out reliable specific biomarkers for ***37 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor that toxically accumulates in autosomal recessive juvenile ***,we investigated whether GPR37 is upregulated in sporadic PD,and thus a suitable potential biomarker for ***:GPR37 protein density and mRNA expression in postmortem substantia nigra(SN)from PD patients were analysed by immunoblot and RT-qPCR,*** presence of peptides from the N-terminus-cleaved domain of GPR37(***-GPR37)in human cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)was determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometric *** engineered in-house nanoluciferase-based immunoassay was used to quantify ecto-GPR37 in CSF samples from neurological control(NC)subjects,PD patients and Alzheimer's disease(AD)***:GPR37 protein density and mRNA expression were significantly augmented in sporadic *** amounts of ecto-GPR37 peptides in the CSF samples from PD patients were identified by mass spectrometry and quantified by the in-house ELISA ***,the CSF total a-synuclein level in PD patients did not differ from that in NC ***,the cortical GPR37 mRNA expression and CSF ecto-GPR37 levels in AD patients were also ***:GPR37 expression is increased in SN of sporadic PD *** ecto-GPR37 peptides are significantly increased in the CSF of PD patients,but not in AD *** results open perspectives and encourage further clinical studies to confirm the validity and utility of ecto-GPR37 as a potential PD biomarker.

From its commissioning in 2006 to the present,the Spanish Control Centre for Renewable Energies(CECRE)has been a worldwide pioneer and reference centre in the integration of renewable energies in the electrical *** the last 15 years,CECRE has allowed a high penetration of renewable energies in Spanish electrical system by means of the supervision and control of renewable facilities,while ensuring the power supply *** paper defines the bases of renewable en-ergy operation in CECRE and introduces forecasting systems for renewable ***,this paper describes the participation of renewable energies in balancing services and congestion ***,new challenges for Spanish transmission system operator(TSO)are presented for the integration of renewable energies along with the energy transition and decarbonization.

Emoji has become ubiquitous in text-based *** its role as communication mode to convey nonverbal cues,this study aims to measure how much the use of emoji can affect understanding from the receivers’ point *** experiment with 3（type of emoji usage: supporting *** ***）X 2（valence of the message: positive ***）X 2（type of communication: instrumental ***）factorial design was conducted to measure the interactions of these variables in two different nationalities,Brazilians and *** measured the level of anxiety caused by the messages in the scope of Hofstede’s Uncertainty Avoidance *** showed supporting emoji improved the understanding only for Chinese *** emoji reduced the efficiency of the message for both *** also indicated that emoji did not affect the level of anxiety reported by the respondents,but other factors do,like valence of the message and type of communication.

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded,questions arose as to whether the pandemic would amplify or pacify tropical *** reports warned of increased deforestation rates;however,these studies were limited to a few months in 2020 or to selected *** better understand how the pandemic infl uenced tropical deforestation globally,this study used historical deforestation data(2004–2019)from the Terra-i pantropical land cover change monitoring system to project expected deforestation trends for 2020,which were used to determine whether observed deforestation deviated from expected trajectories after the fi rst COVID-19 cases were *** series analyses were conducted at the regional level for the Americas,Africa and Asia and at the country level for Brazil,Colombia,Peru,the Democratic Republic of Congo and *** results suggest that the pandemic did not alter the course of deforestation trends in some countries(e.g.,Brazil,Indonesia),while it did in others(e.g.,Peru).We posit the importance of monitoring the long-term eff ects of the pandemic on deforestation trends as countries prioritize economic recovery in the aftermath of the pandemic.

Limited long-distance dispersal success in a Western European fairy shrimp evidenced by nuclear and mitochondrial lineage structuring

Anostraca are known by their ability for long-distance dispersal,but the existence in several species of deep,geographically structured mtDNA lineages suggests their populations are subjected to allopatric differentiation,isolation,and prevalence of local scale *** stagnalis is one of the most widespread species of Anostraca and previous studies revealed an unclear geographical pattern of mtDNA genetic ***,we analyze populations from the Iberian and Italian Peninsulas,Central Europe,and Scandinavia,with the aim to characterize the patterns of genetic diversity in a spatio-temporal framework using mtDNA and nuclear markers to test gene flow among close *** these aims we built a time-calibrated phylogeny and carried out Bayesian phylogeographic analyses using a continuous diffusion *** results indicated that *** presents a deeply structured genetic diversity,including 7 ancient lineages,some of them even predating the *** Iberian Peninsula harbors high diversity of lineages,with strong isolation and recent absence of gene flow between *** at local scale seems to be the prevailing dispersal mode of ***,which exhibits a pattern of isolation-bydistance in the Iberian *** remark the vulnerability of most of these lineages,given the limited known geographic distribution of some of them,and the high risk of losing important evolutionary potential for the species.

E2F transcription factors(TF)comprise a family of proteins that regulate the expression of genes required for S-phase progression,among *** genome encodes six E2F TFs(E2FA–F),which are classified as typical(E2FA–C)and atypical(E2FD–F)depending on their ability to interact with two DP interaction proteins(DPa and DPb)(Sablowski and Gutierrez,2022).While E2FA–C need to heterodimerize with either DPa or DPb to function,E2FD–F act independently of DP ***,the retinoblastoma-related1(RBR1)protein also binds and inhibits the typical E2F/DP TF complexes when bound to the promoter of genes,repressing their expression in the absence of a signal to enter a new cell *** general,E2FA and E2FB are considered transcriptional activators,while E2FC is generally considered a repressor of cell proliferation(Sablowski and Gutierrez,2022).In addition,it is well documented that E2FB at least,and probably E2FA,can also stimulate the G2/M transition.

3D City Models as a Visual Support Tool for the Analysis of Buildings Seismic Vulnerability: The Case of Lisbon

3D city models associate a database of a city to a rigorous geospatial representation that is close to the visible reality by combining appearance, geometry, and semantics. As such, these models may include tools that convey attribute analysis, not only at the statistical level but also in terms of visual appearance of the objects, thus allowing the generation of new knowledge about a phenomenon or its effects. Lisbon is a city with a moderate level of seismic risk, and has been hit in the past by strong earthquakes. Several seismic vulnerability studies of buildings have been carried out in Lisbon. These studies generate different scenarios that consider the magnitude and source location of potential earthquakes. The results of these studies were presented as maps obtained from crossing information contained in 2D layers and presented in a GIS environment. In the present study a seismic vulnerability assessment of Lisbon's buildings held in 2D is extended to the third dimension, which refines the resolution and the set of parameters and explores the gains of spatial analysis in 3D representations. The numerous parameters that contribute to assess seismic vulnerability of buildings may be analyzed individually or simultaneously as well as in multiple seismic scenarios. Although covering all residential buildings in Lisbon, the application of the 3Dcity model is demonstrated with more detail in three pilot areas.

Laurel forests are quite relevant for biodiversity conservation and are among the island ecosystems most severely damaged by human *** the past,Canary laurel forests have been greatly altered by logging,livestock and *** remains of laurel forests are currently protected in the Canary Islands(Spain).However,we miss basic information needed for their restoration and adaptive management,such as tree longevity,growth potential and responsiveness to natural and anthropogenic *** dendrochronological methods,we studied how forest dynamic is related to land-use change and windstorms in two well-preserved laurel forests on Tenerife *** cores were collected from over 80 trees per stand at three stands per *** used ring-width series to estimate tree ages and calculate annual basal area increments(BAI),cumulative diameter increases,and changes indicative of released and suppressed *** tree species were found in all stands,with Laurus novocanariensis,Ilex canariensis and Morella faya being the most common *** some individuals were over 100 years old,61.8%-88.9% of the trees per stand established between 1940 and 1970,coinciding with a post-war period of land abandonment,rural exodus and the onset of a tourism *** trees have shown growth rates larger than 1 cm diameter per year and most species have had increasing BAI trends over the past *** growth releases occurred after windstorms at both sites,but the effects of windstorms were site-dependent,with the 1958 storm affecting mainly the eastern tip of the island(Anaga massif)and the 1991 storm the western tip(Teno massif).Given the great ability of laurel forest trees to establish after land use cessation and to increase growth after local disturbances such as windstorms,passive restoration may be sufficient to regenerate this habitat in currently degraded areas.

Forecasting patient demand at urgent care clinics using explainable machine learning

Urgent care clinics and emergency departments around the world periodically suffer from extended wait times beyond patient expectations due to surges in patient *** delays arising from inadequate staffing levels during these periods have been linked with adverse clinical *** research into forecasting patient flows has mostly used statistical *** studies have also predominately focussed on short‐term forecasts,which have limited practicality for the resourcing of medical *** study joins an emerging body of work which seeks to explore the potential of machine learning algorithms to generate accurate forecasts of patient *** research uses datasets covering 10 years from two large urgent care clinics to develop long‐term patient flow forecasts up to one quarter ahead using a range of state‐of‐the‐art algo-rithms.A distinctive feature of this study is the use of eXplainable Artificial Intelligence(XAI)tools like Shapely and LIME that enable an in‐depth analysis of the behaviour of the models,which would otherwise be *** analysis tools enabled us to explore the ability of the models to adapt to the volatility in patient demand during the COVID‐19 pandemic lockdowns and to identify the most impactful variables,resulting in valuable insights into their *** results showed that a novel combination of advanced univariate models like Prophet as well as gradient boosting,into an ensemble,delivered the most accurate and consistent solutions on *** approach generated improvements in the range of 16%-30%over the existing in‐house methods for esti-mating the daily patient flows 90 days ahead.
